2. ‘Corruption is authority plus monopoly minus
transparency’ – unknown
To reframe in our words, corruption is authority of the
irrational, monopoly of the unjust and absence of
transparency due to obvious reasons that follow
Spoils the lives of billions for the benefit of a few
Reason why it is flourishing despite all of it’s
drawbacks is flaw in the allocation of power resulting
from an even corrupted voting structure and the rules
within it
We must hence implement beneficial electoral reforms
that can save the future of our country !
Corruption
4. Pay some money to join a political party. Then, meet the
Chief and put forward your ideas.
If the Chief of the political party likes your ideas, aims and
aspirations they may provide you with MP post or MLA post
Else you can contact Election Commission of India and ask
for an application to stand as an Independent candidate for
the MLA or MP post.
As for as Election commission is concerned you can file the
application as an independent candidate the votes you can
get based on your popularity or integrity.
How to become a MP or an MLA ?
5. The process of selection of our candidates is completely hidden
from the public
Huge scope of use of money power to get the post you desire
irrespective of your qualifications or background
There might not be even one worthy candidate to chose from
People are neither acquainted with all the candidates nor about the
ideas that they have to offer
Ones with money power engage in heavy campaigning to occupy
top of the minds of the busy public and hence come to power
without a fair process
People don’t have a right to revert their decision
Flaws with the above method
6.
7. First, there must not be any restrictions on the number of
candidates who want to apply for the post of an MP or an MLA, the
age limit should be changed to a minimum of 25 and maximum of
75
Thereafter it should be solely the job of the Election Commission to
further shortlist the deserving candidates through a series of tests
The first one being the analysis of their statement of purpose for
applying for the post. This must be evaluated by the existing
members of Parliament where the Election Commission should
monitor the process and keep the identity of the candidates a secret
After shortlisting candidates from the above process there should
be a detailed scanning of their background to check for criminal
records or involvement/connections with any sort of violent groups
How to correct this ? An Electoral
reform : The only way out !
8. Anyone found guilty in the above step should be outright rejected
Then they should check for the claims that they have made in their
resumes to test the authenticity of their educational background, work
experience, etc.
We think being a graduate should be a minimum level of education set
for the applicants
Then a final process of personal interviews should be conducted by the
members of parliament to shortlist a maximum of 10 candidates per
district
A separate diploma/course on political science and administration must
be designed for the candidates and must be kept mandatory before the
elections.
These selected candidates should be restricted from using their second
names and thus must use only their first names throughout the
campaigning process
There should be a ban on direct campaigning by these candidates and
hence they must not be given any money for the same
9. Instead there should be a standard campaigning process, completely monitored
by the election commission where the candidates have no say apart from the
way they want to present themselves in front of the audience
To describe it in further detail I would suggest extensive campaigning through
television and posters in such a way that each candidate gets an equal share of
display overall
Further, in these campaigns candidates should be allowed to only highlight the
ideas that they want to implement and they must be banned from gathering
votes through any other unfair means
As a final step they must finalize a day, preferably a Sunday on which they
should be made to give a speech of maximum half an hour addressing the
general public. This would again be monitored by the election commission and
any hatred speech must be disqualified there itself
Fourth, even after getting elected for a particular post, they should be
continuously monitored in terms of the work they do and if someone is
genuinely found guilty of a serious offense, he/she must be suspended from the
post
It is so because it’s high time that we start pursuing a direct form of
democracy wherein people have the right to recall a representative elected by
them if they are not competent to hold their office
10. No restrictions on the number of applicants would encourage
deserving candidates who do not apply for such posts otherwise
Sole authority of the election commission would help eliminate
bias on the basis of money and other sources of power to influence
the public
A thorough check of these candidates on the basis of their
background and their ideas by the existing members would bring
out the best from the lot
A minimum educational level is a must for a person who is
accountable for a responsible position of such stature
Use of such a selection Process
11. This will make the people more aware of their representatives
and their ideas for our nation because the campaigning is more
widespread and structured unlike before
This clearly reduces the use of muscle and money power to a
great extent since the whole process is monitored by the election
commission.
This is also the best way to avoid waste of money through
campaigning and would hence eliminate bending of votes in your
favour through unfair means
This way each candidate gets an equal chance to prove their
candidature irrespective of their money or muscle power and they
instead get a perfect platform to highlight their ideas
This would also encourage more participation from the educated
lot due to easy of process and the fairness involved
Uses of such a campaigning process
12. Use of just the first name and a structured campaign like above would
eliminate creating a divide and thus a vote bank on the basis of caste,
community, religion,etc.
In our country, there has always been a ubiquitous and unavoidable
connection between politics and caste and communalism which hampers
the growth of this nation due to the people who create a divide on these
basis using hatred speeches that eventually lead to a communal riots in
many cases and thus a divided society that don’t live in harmony.
There cannot be a more sad situation and hence our reform covers up this
aspect that eventually helps in creating a happier and peaceful society
that is free from all sorts of divisions
