Great great-grandfather came along with Imam Hassan Ali Shah in 1840
from Iran.
His maternal ancestors settled in Gawadar while paternal in Lasbela, Balochistan.
Father came to Karachi and started animals skin business.

PHASE I
 Started as a sales-agent in a wheat distribution business of a relative/ brother-
in- law.
A provincial – level business, then.
Collected wheat from Karachi and distributed it to under-developed areas of
Baluchistan.
Hectic routine, extreme hard work and responsible attitude of Mr. Hashwani.
Lack of interest of brother-in-law in business.
Profit increased.
Expansion to Federal level.
Betrayal of brother-in-law.
Haswani, kicked out of business.
PHASE II
Hashwani rebuilt himself.
Started business with Steel Corporation of Pakistan (SCP), as a sales
agent.
Supplied Bailing hoops to export quality-cotton factories for
packaging.
Then increased business to supplying machine parts, grinders and
rods to factories.
Hashwani’s value proposition and foresight
 Replaced cash payments with banker’s cheque.
1. Received delivery orders from managers of factories.
2. Collected cash from the owners, personally.
3. Opened accounts in multiple banks and their branches.
4. Deposited the collected money in that bank which had
the account of concerned factory owner.
5. Personally delivered cheques to the bank account of SCP.
 Made sure quick transfer of cash and timely transportation of steel goods.
 Never compromised on quality of goods.
Shift to cotton supply business
 Started sales and purchase at local level.
 Then business expanded to international level.
 First business deal with Soviet Union of 500 tons of cotton bales.
Attracted bigger Pakistani tycoons in business like Crescent and Fancy
groups.
Later on, collaborated with elder brother and named the company, as
“Hassan Ali and Company”.
Haswani- The King of Cotton
 Became the no.1 cotton exporter of Pakistan.
 Faced opposition of competitors, including
people from the famous “22 families” and their political supporters.
 They raised prices of cotton deals to unpayable limit.
 Mr. Hashwani managed to pay the money by loan from
a Chinese Bank in Pakistan.

New Business Horizons
 Rice business of “Hasan Ali and Company” with
“Louis Dreyfus Group” –Famous Russian trader company.
 Sold rice to foreign customers at the same pre-decided
prices, despite inflation due to rice shortage.
 Made new business partners, such as, “Continental Green
Company” _ A New York based buyer of Rice.
 Oat and Corn businesses established.
PHASE III
 Political Situation of Pakistan.
 The fall of Dhaka, 1971.
 Bhutto’s Nationalization policy.
 Economic and Educational disparities in the country.
 Decline of family businesses - fall of competitors.
 Hashwani bought shares of falling empires,
foreseeing the future prospect.
 Hassan Ali and Company now changed to Hashoo Group.
 He saw huge sums of profit in Hotel business.
 Opened Marriott Hotel in Islamabad and Karachi.
Advent of Luxury Hotels In Pakistan
 Resistance by general Zia ul haq’s government for alleged-
businessmen (expected pawns of Bhutto).
