− Technical leadership and design innovation for a small team established to address an emergent
primary circuit lifetime management issue; Provided technical leadership, generated design
concepts, supported assessment and down-selection of design concepts and provided technical
oversight for two developing engineers.
− Westinghouse Electric Company in Pennsylvania, USA, 5 month secondment to develop a
technical relationship with Westinghouse on behalf of Rolls-Royce Civil Nuclear. Provided
leadership to establish a design baseline for the largest AP1000 structural module, defined a
method of configuration management for mechanical and structural modules, assisted the team to
reduce the backlog of unincorporated changes from the China AP1000 plant and provided
support for the indoctrination and training of non-nuclear experienced recruits.
− Design and technical leadership for the development of a new plant mounting concept for the next
generation of naval nuclear submarine power plant. Subject Matter Expert for Plant Mounting
within Rolls-Royce. Technical Lead for mechanical design of primary shield tank and its
integration with the nuclear steam raising plant; designed a new primary shield tank, provided
technical leadership for this component during integration meetings and managed integration
issues for the new design, generated documentation to support design and integration activities
and Established methods and relationships to promote effective plant integration.
Senior Engineer (Design, Project and Technical Author Roles)
− Technical leadership for the development of a new reactor protection device. Winner of
Company innovation award.

supervisor and team leadership for the development and successful implementation of a design
modification solution delivered to Submarines in-build.
− Design, technical and procurement leadership for Vanguard Class reactor pressure vessel and
head, including required jigs and tools. Achieved Chartered Engineer in this role.
− Managing the technical specification for several submarine reactor pressure vessels and expediting
nominated vendors for technical progress.
− Provided design support to Royal Navy Submarines and land-based prototype for major pressure
vessels.
Technician Apprentice (Mechanical Engineering)

− Mechanical technical apprenticeship in ship and submarine repair. Apprenticeship extended to six
years as a result of reading for first degree whilst on unpaid leave.
