The models in engineering
A model is a representation of physical, economical,
scientific, natural phenomena, software items and the
industrial crafts;
The models are described by physical and
mathematical notations or diagrams. In the academic
environments every model is developed and validate,
but it’s not ready to the full scale production, because
it’s not compliance to the technical standards and
there isn’t availability of a production chain.
UML and SysML
The Unified Modeling Language (UML) is a language
and graphical notation used to specify, construct, visualize
and document models of software systems and business.
UML covers a wide range of applications and it’s suitable
for technical systems (concurrent, distributed, time
critical) and the business processes (organigrams,
customers, resources, material and information in input
and output, business activities);
The System Modeling Language (SysML) is a graphical
“modelling language” in response to the UML for Systems
Engineering RFP developed by the OMG, INCOSE and it’s
defined as an “UML Profile” that represents a subset of
UML 2.0 with extensions.
UML views
UML (Eriksson-Penker notation ) on the Business Modeling plan and UML
2.0/SysML on the System Modeling plan . The main roles are: Business
Architect (management consultancy side), Software/System architect
(technical side).
Main applications of UML/SysML
The main application of these notations is:
in the field of the industrial market, where you must
certificate every step of the industrial processes and
designing the software or system architecture;
in IT where you have to describe the processes for
improving or re-engineering the business or the
architecture of a software system.
