Dr. Jane Knight focuses her research and professional interests on the international
dimension of higher education at the institutional, system, national and international
levels. Her work in many countries of the world helps to bring a comparative,
development and international policy perspective to her research. In addition to her
involvement with regional comparative studies of international education (Latin
America, Asia Pacific, North America, Europe) with OECD and the World Bank, she
is currently examining key policy issues such as cross-border education, trade
agreements, brain drain and strategic alliances.
She is an adjunct professor at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of
Toronto. She currently is undertaking research in Mexico as part of National Centre
for the Evaluation of Education (CENEVAL) and is an associate at the Centre for
Inter-American Studies and Programs at the Autonomous Institute of Technology in
Mexico (ITAM).
Abstract
IAU 2005 Internationalisation Survey – Preliminary Findings
In 2005, IAU conducted its second survey on the status of internationalisation
practice and issues in Higher Education Institutions and Associations around the
world.
This presentation provided some highlights of the survey findings in terms of
rationales, benefits, priorities, risks, challenges as identified by higher education
actors in 93 countries. Information and opinions on new developments related to
cross-border education, implications of GATS, quality assurance and recognition of
qualifications were also highlighted. Comparisons with the 2003 IAU
Internationalisation survey, plus similarities and differences among regions and
between developed and developing countries were addressed.
Two reports presenting the final results of the 2005 IAU Survey are being prepared
and will be released in early 2006.
