Editor's Notes

  1. In the covid-19 outbreak it is risky to open schools but if suitable measures are taken the risk can be minimized, these measures are in the form of routine setting up of the day care. It is very important to open the kindergartens because the approach that is used in the early childhood education is very different from other levels of education and other reason is that it supports parents also along with children as parents are at work and that time children can stay at kindergartens.  Although opening the schools at this time is a challenge for the teachers, families and the students but there is requirement of proper balance through the integration of the guidelines as per national public health guidelines. So, that the children will be able to enjoy in such environment skills and development of a safe environment.
  2. Before opening the schools there should be availability of qualified staff which is trained on which operations to be performed in the new normal situation and follows all the instructions of the safety requirements. In the school premesis there should be availability of space adequate for the children to be able to be in social distancing condition and the space should be aviailable both in the indoor premises and the outdoor premises also there should be avaialability of necessary cleaning materials that will be utilized in the cleaning of the surfaces with disinfectants both before starting the school and after ending the school.
  3. The best practices that are applied as part of the new normal situation so that the interaction between the students can be reduced are that firstly any kind of class in which the student is enrolled whether before or after school program it has to be combined so as to form a single core class and the class should be conducted in the well ventilated and large space so that the students can attend class following the social distancing norms. Also it has to be make sure by the school that the covid report of the students is maintained at regular intervals so that any new occurance can be tracked and the spread of the disease can be contained.

Also an inventory can be managed that contains the record of the items included in the cleaning process and so that essential materials can be acquired on time. Most prominent places like washroom has to be cleaned with adequete care as it is a shared entity so cleaning has to be done regularly after each use and lastly if there is detection of any covid case in the school then the area has to be properly cleaned using disposable materials and wearing of PPE kit is necessary in that case and the items that cannot be cleaned need to be isolated for 7 days.
  5. The staff needs to take care of the maintainance of hygiene in the school and teaching the students good practices to follow for that they also need to follow that according to which school staff needs to wear face mask and eye protection like googles and face shield but while eating food they can remove the face mask also it is requird that if the space is limited and social distancing cannot be maintained so face mask has to be worn in the outdoor condition as well.
  6. Children are expected to wear face masks when they in the indoor conditions and in the outdoor conditions when social distancing is not possible. It is required that the parents need to provide the children with the additional masks and the storage space in which the used mask can be put. At school the children will be taught how to use PPE and eye protections so that children will become flexible with these. Then the mask breaks can only be provided to the children when they are having meal and when there is sufficient space available for social distancing.
  7. There has to be regular symptoms so that individuals can be screened for the Covid 19 condition as: 1. Individuals should check for the covid-19 test result 2. If there are visitors in the school it should be ensured that the visitors carry the covid screenig test result 5. The staff also need to carry the self screening report 6. If the result is positive in screening then the individual is sent back home and guided to self isolated
  8. 1. The individuals who are tested positive are required to quarantine till the time the sysmptoms are not there and the individual has recieved a negative Covid test result 2. If the individual is showing symptoms and is not tested then the individual needs to isolate itself for 14 at least. 3. The individual who has not passed the screening test should be advised to self isolate and should not be allowed to attend the program 4. The person who is tested Covid 19 positive should follow guidance of their local public health unit regarding the directions to isolate and return before and after the school programs. Also it is not essential to provide the negative result to return to school 5. self isolation measures need to be adopted when the person has returned to school and has symptoms that are improving for atleast 24 hours.

The toys and the equipments used by the children during play should be disinfected properly before sharing while playing 3. while playing students are allowed to wear sun screens but are not allowed to share that and also before application they need to follow the proper procedure of hand hygiene.
  13. In the new normal situation of working in the pandemic digitalization plays a very important role and teaching through physical face to face presence will be converted to virtual contact but parents are struggling as unable to provide time to the children in managing a lot of home tasks. but the education received on virtual platform for the kindergarten students is very limited as the student is not much attentive in the virtual class so schools can invite the kindergarten students for face to face education by appropriate arrangements in the school according to the Reopening Ontario guide for the students also the schools should ensure proper sanitation with least instances of interaction between the students.
