The Fifth Class Reflection Note
Leaders can measurably help their organizations and can add value (Burke, 2014).
What leader personal philosophies are and what impact they might have .This article
intends to analyze this issue through the prelaunch phase (Burke, 2014).
Primarily, leader self-examination is a personal reflection which consists of three
categories: self-awareness, motives and values (Burke, 2014). I suppose that leaders
should have proper self-awareness. It indicates that leaders should identify their roles,
professional capacities and accountabilities. They also need to be conscious that their
self-awareness is related to performance. They need to control personal emotions and
behaviors, in order to have a positive influence on employees. In addition, motive is a
part of self-awareness, but it is more important (Burke, 2014). Leaders should be
ambitious and appropriately passionate about the change they are attempting to initiate
in their organization. Of course, the word “appropriate” is very important. Ambition
plays an important role in encouraging leaders to improve performance. Appropriate
ambition demonstrates that leaders should make rational decision, depending on a
realistic appraisal of the situation and objective data analysis. Leaders also need to
balance three major motives for achievement, power and affiliation, because it affects
the distribution of effort. Moreover, effective change leaders need to interact with
different people and energize others in order to promote the efficiency. Finally, values
are related to culture change. It is essential for leaders to possess skills in
transformational leadership (Bush, 2011). They need to transfer the purposes to their
subordinates, establishing common missions and values. Before attempting to change
organizational structure, leaders must consider the organization’s culture. Culture and
structure are always intertwined. In addition, leaders should create an open-system,
gathering more information from the external environment. Gathering more
information from the environment is useful to promote the change.

  • 1. The Fifth Class Reflection Note Leaders can measurably help their organizations and can add value (Burke, 2014). What leader personal philosophies are and what impact they might have .This article intends to analyze this issue through the prelaunch phase (Burke, 2014). Primarily, leader self-examination is a personal reflection which consists of three categories: self-awareness, motives and values (Burke, 2014). I suppose that leaders should have proper self-awareness. It indicates that leaders should identify their roles, professional capacities and accountabilities. They also need to be conscious that their self-awareness is related to performance. They need to control personal emotions and behaviors, in order to have a positive influence on employees. In addition, motive is a part of self-awareness, but it is more important (Burke, 2014). Leaders should be ambitious and appropriately passionate about the change they are attempting to initiate in their organization. Of course, the word “appropriate” is very important. Ambition plays an important role in encouraging leaders to improve performance. Appropriate ambition demonstrates that leaders should make rational decision, depending on a realistic appraisal of the situation and objective data analysis. Leaders also need to balance three major motives for achievement, power and affiliation, because it affects the distribution of effort. Moreover, effective change leaders need to interact with different people and energize others in order to promote the efficiency. Finally, values are related to culture change. It is essential for leaders to possess skills in transformational leadership (Bush, 2011). They need to transfer the purposes to their subordinates, establishing common missions and values. Before attempting to change
  • 2. organizational structure, leaders must consider the organization’s culture. Culture and structure are always intertwined. In addition, leaders should create an open-system, gathering more information from the external environment. Gathering more information from the environment is useful to promote the change.
