Neckloop and Silhouette Discussion
Neckloop
Silhouette
Best to use
neckloop from
same mfg.
because their
tech specs are
measured with
their own
components.
Can provide a stronger
induction signal for
telecoils because it is
placed next to the
hearing aid.
CI users have often
found the wider
faceplate of the Hatis
more effective.

6. PROS
Increases Signal to Noise Ratio
(you hear the speaker and not the
background noises)
CONS
Not as discrete because you have to
give the speaker a microphone
Battery operated
Amplification when you need it
Small and portable
Can become expensive if you need
to purchase many pariperials
Can you it with many different
microphones, headsets, or a

Requires self-advocacy on the part of

Reasonably priced
7. A student is taking a cooking class where
there is a lot of hands on demonstration.
The instructor likes to talk and chop at the
same time. The student is struggling to hear
that instructor’s voice over the other students
movement in the classroom.
By asking the teacher to wear a lapel
microphone (making it hands free) the
student can use an FM system and hear her
voice and not all of the movement and
chopping in the classroom.
8. A student has a severe hearing loss.
He uses ASL to communicate. He
does not use hearing aids and
cannot hear most environmental
sounds. An FM system would likely
not work for this student who is not
used to depending on audio
stimulus.
Editor's Notes
