☻Trivandrum International Airport (IATA: TRV, ICAO: VOTV) is an international airport which serves the
city of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India.
☻ Established in 1932, it is the first airport in the state of Kerala. It is the fifth international airport of
India officially declared by then Prime Minister of India, V. P. Singh in 1991.
☻It is Secondary Hub of Air India Express and focus city for Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet. It is one of
the four airports in Kerala.
☻The first flight took off on 1 November 1935, carrying mails of Royal Anchal (Travancore Post) to
Bombay.
☻ In 1938, the Royal Government of Travancore acquired as Maharaja's private aircraft and placed the
first squadron of Royal Indian Air Force (Travancore) for protection of the state from aerial attacks.
☻ After Independence, the airstrip was used for domestic flights with the construction of a new
domestic terminal, Terminal 1.
☻ IndianOil Skytanking is the company which introduced single man refuelling in India and started
refuelling operations at Trivandrum in March 2016.

campus.
◦ The airport was set up as a part of the Kerala Flying Club in 1932. Air India began international operations at
the airport during the 1970s, with flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Doha, Kuwait City, Bahrain and
Dahran.
◦ It was upgraded to an international airport, the first to be located outside the metropolitan area, in January
1991.
◦ Elevated at a height of 13ft over the mean sea level, the airport has one 3,996m-long (13,110ft) asphalt
runway(14/32).

◦ The terminal
1, domestic terminal with an area of 99,000 Sq. ft. can handle around 400 passengers at a time.
◦ Terminal 2, with passenger handling capacity of 1600, is for international operations and also
handles domestic operations of Air India.
◦ Annual passenger handling capacity of the new international terminal (T2) which was
inaugurated by then Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh in 2011, is around 1.8 million.
◦ Elevated at a height of 13ft over the mean sea level, the airport has one 3,996m-long (13,110ft)
asphalt runway(14/32).
◦ The new terminal is being built on a 28,800m² area. It is a three-storey building with a total floor
area of approximately 23,300m². The ground floor, mezzanine floor, and first floor areas will be
11,520m², 5,354m² and 6,425m² respectively.
8. Airport parking and car rental
◦ Terminal 1 and 2 at the airport have a total parking area of 16,390m². To reach the airport, passengers can
catch the city bus, use the general taxi service at the taxi stand, or take advantage of the prepaid and
interstate taxi services at the prepaid taxi counter.
◦ The new terminal is being constructed with a car park area that can accommodate about 600 cars.
◦ Trivandrum airport check-in, customs and immigration
◦ The departure and arrival areas in Terminal 3 will have 30 check-in counters and 18 immigration counters, and
18 immigration and customs counters, respectively.
◦ The ground floor of the new terminal will have 18 check-in counters, 11 customs counters and 20 immigration
counters. The immigration and customs checks for arriving passengers will be carried out on the ground floor.
◦ A common-user terminal equipment (CUTE) system will be installed in the new terminal, allowing passengers
to check-in at any of the counters. The check-in area will have four conveyors belts, each 60m long.
9. Passenger handling
◦ The passenger-handling capacity of the new terminal will be approximately 1.95 million each year,
with peak-hour handling capacity of 1,600 departing and arriving passengers.
◦ The budgeted cost of the project is INR2.45bn.
◦ The new terminal has a car park area that can accommodate about 600 cars. Pre-paid taxi service
counter and foreign exchange (Thomas Cook India) counter are there on arrival area. Visa on Arrival
facility (VOA) service is available and allows citizens of 44 countries to obtain tourist visas on arrival.
Cargo Handling
◦ The cargo activities at the Trivandrum Airport are carried out through the Kerala State
Industrial Enterprises (KSIE), a government of Kerala undertaking). The cargo warehouse is
on the airport premises. It has a capacity to import 21000 MT and export 27000 MT per
annum. In 2010-11 (up to December 2010), the airport achieved MT of import cargo and
MT of export cargo
