THE NAMES OF ALLAH - 2
Almighty Allah, Lord of the Worlds, reveals Himself in the Holy Qur’an.
This film has been produced in order to introduce Allah, Lord of the Earth and Sky,
by the names revealed in the Qur’an. However, it is of course impossible for a mere
human being to fully grasp the titles of our Lord Who created the universe, all living
things, human beings and all matter.
This film describes only facts that appear in the Qur’an because we human beings
know nothing about the lovely names of Almighty Allah apart from what He teaches us in
the Qur’an. That which lies outside our knowledge is of course, like everything else,
hidden in the Sight of Allah. In one verse we are told that:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
They said, ‘Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have
taught us. You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.’ (Surat al-Baqara, 32)
THE NAMES OF ALLAH – 2
AL- ‘ASIM (The Protector)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He [his son] said, ‘I will take refuge on a mountain; It will protect me from the
flood.’ He said, ‘There is no protection from Allah’s command today except for
those He has mercy on...’ (Surah Hud, 43)
Human beings are helpless creatures; they may face difficulties of all kinds at any
moment.
For example, the Earth is a place where natural disasters can strike at any time.
Floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are all quite common.
There are also events that can cause psychological troubles. There is one reality that
must not be forgotten in the face of all these: no matter how much a person may strive to
free himself from these weaknesses, he can never be protected against anything that may
1
befall him unless Allah so wills. Allah, the Compassionate, is a person’s only protector.
This is revealed as follows in a verse:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Say: ‘Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and sea? You call on Him
humbly and secretly: “If you rescue us from this, we will truly be among the
thankful.” Allah rescues you from it, and from every plight. Then you associate
others with Him.’ (Surat al-An’am, 63-64)
The majority of people seek help from Allah when they are left all alone, or when
the material means at their disposal cannot help them. But when Allah rescues them, they
then become ungrateful and forget what happened to them.
People who fail to understand they can find no other protector than Allah in this
world, and who persist in ingratitude despite all of His help will suffer eternal punishment
in the Hereafter. Allah reveals this as follows in the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
...As for those who show disdain and grow arrogant, He will punish them with
a painful punishment. They will not find any protector or helper for themselves
besides Allah. (Surat an-Nisa’, 173)
AL-BA‘ITH (The Waker, the Resurrecter, the Sender of Prophets)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
How can you reject Allah, when you were dead and then He gave you life, then
He will make you die and then give you life again, then you will be returned to Him.
(Surat al-Baqara, 28)
Everyone alive today, or who has ever lived, is mortal. Everyone will one day die
and be buried. But despite this evident truth, the great majority of people think very little
about the fact they will one day die and then be resurrected after being buried in the
ground. Indeed, according to the Qur’an, many people attach little credence to the idea at
all:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
2
They will say, ‘Are we to be restored to how we were? When we have become
perished, worm-eaten bones?’ (Surat an-Nazi’at, 10-11)
The answer to this question, asked in a state of terrible error, is provided in these
words in the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He makes likenesses of Us and forgets his own creation, saying, ‘Who will give
life to bones when they are decayed?’
Say ‘He Who made them in the first place will bring them back to life. He has
total knowledge of each created thing. (Surah Ya Sin, 78-79)
Allah is He Who creates and builds all people for the first time. He has created
everyone who has ever lived with different characteristics. So much so that many features
of every individual, right down to his finger tips, are different to those of everyone else.
There is no doubt that Allah, Who created these for the first time, could have created
them in the same way for a second, a third, or countless times, had He so wished. Allah
shows us evidence of this in the restoration of life that takes place on Earth.
Nature experiences a kind of “death” beginning every fall. This “death” lasts right
through the winter. But when spring arrives, bright blossoms and green leaves again
appear on the dry branches of trees. All of nature returns to life and flourishes. In
addition, this restoration to life has been going on uninterruptedly for thousands of years.
It is an easy matter for Allah to bring human beings back to life after death. Allah
notes the similarity between the resurrection of human beings and that of nature in this
verse from the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
So look at the effect of the mercy of Allah, how He brings the dead earth back
to life. Truly He is the One Who brings the dead to life. He has power over all things.
(Surat ar-Rum, 50)
Another meaning of Allah's title of 'al-Ba‘ith' is “He Who Sends Prophets.” Allah
has sent messengers to warn people and give them glad tidings and call them to the true
path. He also revealed books to lead people from the darkness to the light to some of
these envoys. There is no doubt that this is a great blessing from Allah. In one verse of the
Qur’an Allah reveals:
3
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Allah showed great kindness to the believers when He sent a Messenger to
them from among themselves to recite His Signs to them and purify them and teach
them the Book and Wisdom, even though before that they were clearly misguided.
(Surat al-‘Imran, 164)
AL-BAQI (The Lasting, The Immortal)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Everyone on it will pass away; but the Face of your Lord will remain, Master
of Majesty and Generosity. (Surat ar-Rahman, 26-27)
All entities in the universe come to an end. A person is born, lives and dies at the
end of his limited span in this world.
That end is inevitable and guaranteed for everyone. Like people, also animals and
plants inevitably cease to exist. Like them, they are born and then, one by one, they die.
For example, a tree can live for many hundreds of years. But in the end it is
condemned to die. Every living thing will one day return to the Earth and cease to exist.
The same end applies to inanimate objects. Time wears all things away. For
example, all we have left of the peoples who lived in great splendor thousands of years
ago are the ruins they left behind. Allah reveals this in the Qur’an,:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
How many wrongdoing cities We destroyed, and now all their roofs and walls
are fallen in; how many abandoned wells and stuccoed palaces! (Surat al-Hajj, 45)
How many generations We have destroyed before them! Do you see a trace of
any one of them or hear even a whisper of them? (Surah Maryam, 98)
This is the fate of all inanimate entities.
In the same way that all things in it come to an end, so will the universe itself. All
the heavenly bodies in the universe, the stars and the Sun will one day exhaust their
4
energy and cease to exist; or Allah will destroy the universe making some other natural
cause His instrument, and thus keep His promise about the Day of Reckoning.
All things are finite; the universe and everything in creation...
Allah is the Creator, and eternity belongs to Him alone.
AL-FALIQ (The Splitter of Seeds, He Who Clefts the Darkness and Produces the
Morning)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Allah is He Who splits the seed and kernel. He brings forth the living from the
dead, and produces the dead out of the living. That is Allah, so how are you
perverted? It is He Who splits the sky at dawn, and appoints the night as a time of
stillness and the sun and moon as a means of reckoning. That is what the Almighty,
the All-Knowing has ordained. (Surat al-An’am, 95-96)
Many kinds of plants grow on Earth. These all have different seeds. Dry seeds can
survive in that state for many years, but when placed in the Earth or some other suitable
environment, these seeds break open and start to sprout, finally giving rise to different
types of plants.
It is certainly amazing the way that such great variety can emerge from something
so dessicated. Let us consider what is required for a tree to emerge from a dry seed:
First, the seed absorbs the necessary materials from the soil and begins to sprout.
Yet it is impossible for the seed itself to determine which minerals it will absorb
and how much water to use.
It is impossible for very different types of trees of brightly colored flowers to come
about spontaneously using these materials. That is why the seed has to possess very
superior abilities; there is of course no question of that, either. This all goes to show that a
sublime mind has created the seeds with these superior qualities. And that is without
doubt Allah, “Who splits the seeds and kernel.” Thousands of varieties of trees and
5
plants grow on Earth by His will. Allah is revealed as the Creator of all things in these
terms in one verse of the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
It is He Who sends down water from the sky from which We bring forth
growth of every kind, and from that We bring forth the green shoots... (Surat al-
An’am, 99)
AL-HAFEEDH (The Protector, the Watcher Over, the Preserver)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
‘If you turn your backs, I have transmitted to you what I was sent to you with,
and my Lord will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all.
My Lord is the Preserver of everything.’ (Surah Hud, 57)
It has today been proven that the universe came into being out of nothing. All the
data obtained from research goes to show this. Science also reveals that the atoms that
appeared with the emergence of the universe from nothing, are the same as those that
constitute everything, whether living or not, today.
There are as many atoms now as there were when the universe was first created.
The atoms thrown off at high speed at the moment of creation in fact make up the stars,
the Earth, as well as the air in the atmosphere, the water on Earth, the soil and even the
human body. Yet, they do this so flawlessly that there is absolutely a power regulating
each and every atom that make up the universe.
As a matter of fact, this leads us to only one reality:
Allah, Who created matter from nothing and with immaculate order, has knowledge
of each and every detail involved in the creation of that order because it is impossible for
such a complex and flawless system to form in an uncontrolled manner, even for a single
moment.
This fact reveals the omniscience of Allah, Who protects and has control over the
entire system of the universe.
6
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He directs the whole affair from heaven to earth... (Surat as-Sajda, 5)
Allah created everything from nothing and established a flawless order by
regulating every minute and second of that creation. He maintains and preserves that
order without cessation. Allah's constant protection of the universe is described in these
words in a verse of the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Your Lord is always lying in wait. (Surat al-Fajr, 14)
AL-HAYY (The Living, He Who Knows and is Almighty to do All Things)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He is the Living –there is no god but Him –so call on Him, making your
religion sincerely His. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. (Surat al-
Mu’min, 65)
Human beings are weak and have little power to do anything during their lives.
They spend the first five to ten years after their arrival in this world in a state of semi-
consciousness. During this time, they are in constant need of care and looking after.
Following that period they spend much of their lives grooming and cleaning themselves.
If they are unwilling to do that, they soon become repellent to look at.
Of course, it is only humans and other created life forms that are helpless. Allah, the
Creator of the entire universe, living and non-living, is the al-Hayy. He is always
vigorous, rules at every moment, knows all things and is Almighty to do all things. Sleep
does not enfold Him and He is unfettered by any weakness.
Allah has given His creations various weaknesses and has commanded them to
serve Him alone and ask for everything from Him alone, by being aware of those
weaknesses. Human beings’ duty is to know they have no power to do anything unless He
so wishes, not even to survive for a single moment, and to turn to our Lord at all times. In
one verse Allah reveals that:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
7
Allah, there is no god but Him, the Living, the self-Sustaining … (Surat al-
Baqara, 255)
AL-MUHSEE (He Who Knows the Number of All Things, Even If They Are
Infinite)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He has counted them and numbered them precisely. (Surah Maryam, 94)
Allah knows everything He has created in the universe, right down to the smallest
detail. He rules all things. He created them down to the finest detail, with all their colors,
shapes, appearances and characteristics. He has also determined the number of all His
living creations. This is certainly knowledge that mankind can never possess and it is
unique to Allah, Lord of the worlds. In the Qur’an Allah reveals:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Does He Who created not then know? He is the All-Pervading, the All-
Aware. (Surat al-Mulq, 14)
Allah knows how many grains of sand there are in and on the Earth, how many
drops of rain fall and how many fish are living in all the seas. And Allah alone knows the
numbers of all the people who have lived since the time of the Prophet Adam (pbuh) or
will live until the Day of Reckoning.
Allah remembers what everyone has done throughout their lives, all their thoughts,
and will tell them on the Day of Resurrection.
Every action will be brought up, right down to the tiniest detail. Allah reveals this in
another verse:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
On the Day Allah raises up all of them together, He will inform them of what
they did. Allah has recorded it while they have forgotten it. Allah is a Witness of all
things. (Surat Al-Mujadilah, 6)
8
AL-MUHEE (The Bestower of Life, the Giver of Health, He Who Resurrects, He
Who Causes to Live)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He gives life and causes to die and you will be returned to Him. (Surah Yunus,
56)
Giving life to something, creating it from nothing and arranging the conditions in
this world in such a way as to allow it to survive belongs to Almighty Allah alone.
Allah combines an egg cell, invisible to the naked eye, with sperm. As soon as the
sperm enters the egg, the egg is covered by a membrane. And so life begins. Allah divides
this tiny cell, first into two, and then into four. And this division continues at high speed.
And a miraculous life begins in the mother’s womb.
The same cells later diversify to produce the brain, the nervous system and hard
bone and cartilage. In this way, Allah creates a seeing, hearing, speaking and thinking
human being out of nothing, in around nine months.
An egg and a sperm obviously cannot by themselves perform these miraculous
events that take place during the developmental stages of this living being. It is Allah
alone Who joins them together and protects and develops the baby over the next nine
months in its mother’s womb.
This is the first creation and the first bringing to life.
Allah has also created a specific life span for every human being. He has appointed
in their destinies a day for them all to die. Human beings are subjected to various tests in
the life of this world until the very day they die. When the appointed day comes, He takes
people’s souls back, and then brings them back to life in the Hereafter in such a way as to
reward them for their deeds in this world. There is no doubt that these are all easy matters
for Almighty Allah.
AL-MUSAWWIR (He Who Depicts, Who Gives Shape and Form to All Things)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He is Allah – the Creator, the Maker, the Giver of Form. To Him belong the
Most Beautiful Names. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him. He is the
Almighty, the All-Wise. (Surat al-Hashr, 24)
9
There are more than 100,000 different living species on Earth. These all possess
immaculate attributes and are of totally different appearance to one another.
There is a flawless symmetry in butterfly wings. The top of every wing is adorned
with all kinds of shapes and striking colors. No matter how complex these shapes and
colors may be, the matchless symmetry in the wings is never impaired.
All butterflies have a beauty that directly addresses the eye, just as if it had come
from an artist’s brush.
Even the simplest drawing has an artist behind it, and no picture can ever appear
spontaneously. In the same way, such a flawlessly made living thing, as beautiful as any
work of art, also has a Creator. That Creator is Almighty Allah, Lord of the entire
universe.
The human body also exhibits the sublime creation and glory of Allah. For
example, the skeleton that represents the framework of the human body is a marvel of
engineering in its own right. It is the body’s structural support system. It protects such
vital organs as the brain, heart and lungs and supports the internal organs.
The skeleton bestows an excellent power of movement. This property cannot be
replicated by any artificial machine.
Furthermore, contrary to what most people imagine, bone is not inanimate. It stores
minerals such as calcium and phosphate, or else distributes previously stored minerals to
the body, depending on its needs.
The bones also manufacture red blood cells. This multi-functional skeletal system is
just one of the perfect systems in the human body. Allah, Who created all these with a
matchless design and Who continues to create them, constantly manifests His might
before us.
In one verse from the Qur’an, Allah reveals:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
He said, ‘Our Lord is He Who gives each thing its created form and then
guides it.’ (Surah Ta Ha, 50)
AL-MUGHNEE (He Who Bestows Wealth on Whom He Pleases)
1
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
That it is He Who enriches and Who satisfies. (Surat al-Najm, 48)
True wealth belongs to Allah alone. He greatly enriches whomsoever He wishes,
while testing others with poverty for a time.
The wealth, property and possessions that people enjoy in this world in fact belong
to Allah alone. Nobody will be able to take any of his belongings with him after he dies.
He will have to leave behind everything he worked for and amassed during his lifetime.
Allah says this in the Qur’an about those people who still boast of enjoying great wealth
and possessions, whose wealth makes them proud, and who forget our Lord as a result:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Do they imagine that, in the wealth and children We extend to them, We are
hastening to them with good things? No indeed, but they have no awareness! (Surat
al-Mu’minum, 55-56)
The messengers of Allah used the possessions He bestowed on them on good works
intended to please our Lord and earn His approval. They spent all they possessed for very
different purposes than those whose wealth makes them proud, and who forget the true
Lord of all things.
Allah, Lord of all things in the universe and the sole Creator of all, bestows wealth
on whomever He pleases in this world. But it is in the Hereafter that He will bestow true
wealth. All believers who have faith in Him, who spend their lives doing good works and
thus seek to earn His approval, will be blessed with great wealth in the Hereafter. Allah
says this about Paradise in the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Seeing them, you see delight and a great kingdom. They will wear green
garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets.
And their Lord will give them a pure draught to drink. ‘This is your reward. Your
striving is fully acknowledged.’ (Surat al-Insan, 20-22)
1
DHU AL-JALAL WA AL-IKRAM (The Lord of Greatness and of Generosity and
Munificence)
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
Blessed be the name of your Lord, Master of Majesty and Generosity. (Surat
ar-Rahman, 78)
There are countless blessings to delight a person in this world. Allah has adorned
this world with many details that will delight His servants. But it is in Paradise that Allah
will reveal His true generosity and munificence. The paradise depicted in the Qur’an
reveals His infinite magnificence.
One of the distinguishing features of Paradise described in the Qur’an is that
everything that one's earthly desires can wish for is provided. Paradise is a place where
food and comfort are constantly provided, which is neither too hot nor too cold, and
enjoys just the right amount of shade. Allah will place His servants among shade and
springs in the Gardens of Paradise as a blessing from His Presence. Believers will be
given all the fruit and meat they desire in Paradise, which is adorned with various
beauties and fineries.
As revealed in verses, believers enter Paradise to be given in boundless quantities.
Lofty mansions have been erected for people in Paradise. Rivers flow beneath these
mansions. They sit on thrones of specially carved jewels and look around them. The
generosity on display here is truly magnificent. Servants at their disposal move among
them with silver bowls. Believers’ clothing is also extremely eye-catching. Allah reveals
this in the Qur’an in the words:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
... they will be adorned with gold bracelets and pearls, and where their clothing
will be of silk. (Surat al-Fatir, 33)
Paradise is certainly much superior to the description provided here. Allah reveals
His infinite generosity and blessings in Paradise as follows in verses of the Qur’an:
I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan-
... they will have there all that their hearts desire and their eyes find delight in.
You will remain in it timelessly, for ever. (Surat az-Zukhruf, 71)
1
Seeing them, you see delight and a great kingdom. (Surat al-Insan, 20)

The names of Allāh (God Almighty) 2. english

  • 1. THE NAMES OF ALLAH - 2 Almighty Allah, Lord of the Worlds, reveals Himself in the Holy Qur’an. This film has been produced in order to introduce Allah, Lord of the Earth and Sky, by the names revealed in the Qur’an. However, it is of course impossible for a mere human being to fully grasp the titles of our Lord Who created the universe, all living things, human beings and all matter. This film describes only facts that appear in the Qur’an because we human beings know nothing about the lovely names of Almighty Allah apart from what He teaches us in the Qur’an. That which lies outside our knowledge is of course, like everything else, hidden in the Sight of Allah. In one verse we are told that: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- They said, ‘Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.’ (Surat al-Baqara, 32) THE NAMES OF ALLAH – 2 AL- ‘ASIM (The Protector) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He [his son] said, ‘I will take refuge on a mountain; It will protect me from the flood.’ He said, ‘There is no protection from Allah’s command today except for those He has mercy on...’ (Surah Hud, 43) Human beings are helpless creatures; they may face difficulties of all kinds at any moment. For example, the Earth is a place where natural disasters can strike at any time. Floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are all quite common. There are also events that can cause psychological troubles. There is one reality that must not be forgotten in the face of all these: no matter how much a person may strive to free himself from these weaknesses, he can never be protected against anything that may 1
  • 2. befall him unless Allah so wills. Allah, the Compassionate, is a person’s only protector. This is revealed as follows in a verse: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Say: ‘Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and sea? You call on Him humbly and secretly: “If you rescue us from this, we will truly be among the thankful.” Allah rescues you from it, and from every plight. Then you associate others with Him.’ (Surat al-An’am, 63-64) The majority of people seek help from Allah when they are left all alone, or when the material means at their disposal cannot help them. But when Allah rescues them, they then become ungrateful and forget what happened to them. People who fail to understand they can find no other protector than Allah in this world, and who persist in ingratitude despite all of His help will suffer eternal punishment in the Hereafter. Allah reveals this as follows in the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- ...As for those who show disdain and grow arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment. They will not find any protector or helper for themselves besides Allah. (Surat an-Nisa’, 173) AL-BA‘ITH (The Waker, the Resurrecter, the Sender of Prophets) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- How can you reject Allah, when you were dead and then He gave you life, then He will make you die and then give you life again, then you will be returned to Him. (Surat al-Baqara, 28) Everyone alive today, or who has ever lived, is mortal. Everyone will one day die and be buried. But despite this evident truth, the great majority of people think very little about the fact they will one day die and then be resurrected after being buried in the ground. Indeed, according to the Qur’an, many people attach little credence to the idea at all: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- 2
  • 3. They will say, ‘Are we to be restored to how we were? When we have become perished, worm-eaten bones?’ (Surat an-Nazi’at, 10-11) The answer to this question, asked in a state of terrible error, is provided in these words in the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He makes likenesses of Us and forgets his own creation, saying, ‘Who will give life to bones when they are decayed?’ Say ‘He Who made them in the first place will bring them back to life. He has total knowledge of each created thing. (Surah Ya Sin, 78-79) Allah is He Who creates and builds all people for the first time. He has created everyone who has ever lived with different characteristics. So much so that many features of every individual, right down to his finger tips, are different to those of everyone else. There is no doubt that Allah, Who created these for the first time, could have created them in the same way for a second, a third, or countless times, had He so wished. Allah shows us evidence of this in the restoration of life that takes place on Earth. Nature experiences a kind of “death” beginning every fall. This “death” lasts right through the winter. But when spring arrives, bright blossoms and green leaves again appear on the dry branches of trees. All of nature returns to life and flourishes. In addition, this restoration to life has been going on uninterruptedly for thousands of years. It is an easy matter for Allah to bring human beings back to life after death. Allah notes the similarity between the resurrection of human beings and that of nature in this verse from the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- So look at the effect of the mercy of Allah, how He brings the dead earth back to life. Truly He is the One Who brings the dead to life. He has power over all things. (Surat ar-Rum, 50) Another meaning of Allah's title of 'al-Ba‘ith' is “He Who Sends Prophets.” Allah has sent messengers to warn people and give them glad tidings and call them to the true path. He also revealed books to lead people from the darkness to the light to some of these envoys. There is no doubt that this is a great blessing from Allah. In one verse of the Qur’an Allah reveals: 3
  • 4. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Allah showed great kindness to the believers when He sent a Messenger to them from among themselves to recite His Signs to them and purify them and teach them the Book and Wisdom, even though before that they were clearly misguided. (Surat al-‘Imran, 164) AL-BAQI (The Lasting, The Immortal) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Everyone on it will pass away; but the Face of your Lord will remain, Master of Majesty and Generosity. (Surat ar-Rahman, 26-27) All entities in the universe come to an end. A person is born, lives and dies at the end of his limited span in this world. That end is inevitable and guaranteed for everyone. Like people, also animals and plants inevitably cease to exist. Like them, they are born and then, one by one, they die. For example, a tree can live for many hundreds of years. But in the end it is condemned to die. Every living thing will one day return to the Earth and cease to exist. The same end applies to inanimate objects. Time wears all things away. For example, all we have left of the peoples who lived in great splendor thousands of years ago are the ruins they left behind. Allah reveals this in the Qur’an,: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- How many wrongdoing cities We destroyed, and now all their roofs and walls are fallen in; how many abandoned wells and stuccoed palaces! (Surat al-Hajj, 45) How many generations We have destroyed before them! Do you see a trace of any one of them or hear even a whisper of them? (Surah Maryam, 98) This is the fate of all inanimate entities. In the same way that all things in it come to an end, so will the universe itself. All the heavenly bodies in the universe, the stars and the Sun will one day exhaust their 4
  • 5. energy and cease to exist; or Allah will destroy the universe making some other natural cause His instrument, and thus keep His promise about the Day of Reckoning. All things are finite; the universe and everything in creation... Allah is the Creator, and eternity belongs to Him alone. AL-FALIQ (The Splitter of Seeds, He Who Clefts the Darkness and Produces the Morning) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Allah is He Who splits the seed and kernel. He brings forth the living from the dead, and produces the dead out of the living. That is Allah, so how are you perverted? It is He Who splits the sky at dawn, and appoints the night as a time of stillness and the sun and moon as a means of reckoning. That is what the Almighty, the All-Knowing has ordained. (Surat al-An’am, 95-96) Many kinds of plants grow on Earth. These all have different seeds. Dry seeds can survive in that state for many years, but when placed in the Earth or some other suitable environment, these seeds break open and start to sprout, finally giving rise to different types of plants. It is certainly amazing the way that such great variety can emerge from something so dessicated. Let us consider what is required for a tree to emerge from a dry seed: First, the seed absorbs the necessary materials from the soil and begins to sprout. Yet it is impossible for the seed itself to determine which minerals it will absorb and how much water to use. It is impossible for very different types of trees of brightly colored flowers to come about spontaneously using these materials. That is why the seed has to possess very superior abilities; there is of course no question of that, either. This all goes to show that a sublime mind has created the seeds with these superior qualities. And that is without doubt Allah, “Who splits the seeds and kernel.” Thousands of varieties of trees and 5
  • 6. plants grow on Earth by His will. Allah is revealed as the Creator of all things in these terms in one verse of the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- It is He Who sends down water from the sky from which We bring forth growth of every kind, and from that We bring forth the green shoots... (Surat al- An’am, 99) AL-HAFEEDH (The Protector, the Watcher Over, the Preserver) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- ‘If you turn your backs, I have transmitted to you what I was sent to you with, and my Lord will replace you with another people, and you will not harm Him at all. My Lord is the Preserver of everything.’ (Surah Hud, 57) It has today been proven that the universe came into being out of nothing. All the data obtained from research goes to show this. Science also reveals that the atoms that appeared with the emergence of the universe from nothing, are the same as those that constitute everything, whether living or not, today. There are as many atoms now as there were when the universe was first created. The atoms thrown off at high speed at the moment of creation in fact make up the stars, the Earth, as well as the air in the atmosphere, the water on Earth, the soil and even the human body. Yet, they do this so flawlessly that there is absolutely a power regulating each and every atom that make up the universe. As a matter of fact, this leads us to only one reality: Allah, Who created matter from nothing and with immaculate order, has knowledge of each and every detail involved in the creation of that order because it is impossible for such a complex and flawless system to form in an uncontrolled manner, even for a single moment. This fact reveals the omniscience of Allah, Who protects and has control over the entire system of the universe. 6
  • 7. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He directs the whole affair from heaven to earth... (Surat as-Sajda, 5) Allah created everything from nothing and established a flawless order by regulating every minute and second of that creation. He maintains and preserves that order without cessation. Allah's constant protection of the universe is described in these words in a verse of the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Your Lord is always lying in wait. (Surat al-Fajr, 14) AL-HAYY (The Living, He Who Knows and is Almighty to do All Things) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He is the Living –there is no god but Him –so call on Him, making your religion sincerely His. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. (Surat al- Mu’min, 65) Human beings are weak and have little power to do anything during their lives. They spend the first five to ten years after their arrival in this world in a state of semi- consciousness. During this time, they are in constant need of care and looking after. Following that period they spend much of their lives grooming and cleaning themselves. If they are unwilling to do that, they soon become repellent to look at. Of course, it is only humans and other created life forms that are helpless. Allah, the Creator of the entire universe, living and non-living, is the al-Hayy. He is always vigorous, rules at every moment, knows all things and is Almighty to do all things. Sleep does not enfold Him and He is unfettered by any weakness. Allah has given His creations various weaknesses and has commanded them to serve Him alone and ask for everything from Him alone, by being aware of those weaknesses. Human beings’ duty is to know they have no power to do anything unless He so wishes, not even to survive for a single moment, and to turn to our Lord at all times. In one verse Allah reveals that: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- 7
  • 8. Allah, there is no god but Him, the Living, the self-Sustaining … (Surat al- Baqara, 255) AL-MUHSEE (He Who Knows the Number of All Things, Even If They Are Infinite) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He has counted them and numbered them precisely. (Surah Maryam, 94) Allah knows everything He has created in the universe, right down to the smallest detail. He rules all things. He created them down to the finest detail, with all their colors, shapes, appearances and characteristics. He has also determined the number of all His living creations. This is certainly knowledge that mankind can never possess and it is unique to Allah, Lord of the worlds. In the Qur’an Allah reveals: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Does He Who created not then know? He is the All-Pervading, the All- Aware. (Surat al-Mulq, 14) Allah knows how many grains of sand there are in and on the Earth, how many drops of rain fall and how many fish are living in all the seas. And Allah alone knows the numbers of all the people who have lived since the time of the Prophet Adam (pbuh) or will live until the Day of Reckoning. Allah remembers what everyone has done throughout their lives, all their thoughts, and will tell them on the Day of Resurrection. Every action will be brought up, right down to the tiniest detail. Allah reveals this in another verse: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- On the Day Allah raises up all of them together, He will inform them of what they did. Allah has recorded it while they have forgotten it. Allah is a Witness of all things. (Surat Al-Mujadilah, 6) 8
  • 9. AL-MUHEE (The Bestower of Life, the Giver of Health, He Who Resurrects, He Who Causes to Live) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He gives life and causes to die and you will be returned to Him. (Surah Yunus, 56) Giving life to something, creating it from nothing and arranging the conditions in this world in such a way as to allow it to survive belongs to Almighty Allah alone. Allah combines an egg cell, invisible to the naked eye, with sperm. As soon as the sperm enters the egg, the egg is covered by a membrane. And so life begins. Allah divides this tiny cell, first into two, and then into four. And this division continues at high speed. And a miraculous life begins in the mother’s womb. The same cells later diversify to produce the brain, the nervous system and hard bone and cartilage. In this way, Allah creates a seeing, hearing, speaking and thinking human being out of nothing, in around nine months. An egg and a sperm obviously cannot by themselves perform these miraculous events that take place during the developmental stages of this living being. It is Allah alone Who joins them together and protects and develops the baby over the next nine months in its mother’s womb. This is the first creation and the first bringing to life. Allah has also created a specific life span for every human being. He has appointed in their destinies a day for them all to die. Human beings are subjected to various tests in the life of this world until the very day they die. When the appointed day comes, He takes people’s souls back, and then brings them back to life in the Hereafter in such a way as to reward them for their deeds in this world. There is no doubt that these are all easy matters for Almighty Allah. AL-MUSAWWIR (He Who Depicts, Who Gives Shape and Form to All Things) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He is Allah – the Creator, the Maker, the Giver of Form. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him. He is the Almighty, the All-Wise. (Surat al-Hashr, 24) 9
  • 10. There are more than 100,000 different living species on Earth. These all possess immaculate attributes and are of totally different appearance to one another. There is a flawless symmetry in butterfly wings. The top of every wing is adorned with all kinds of shapes and striking colors. No matter how complex these shapes and colors may be, the matchless symmetry in the wings is never impaired. All butterflies have a beauty that directly addresses the eye, just as if it had come from an artist’s brush. Even the simplest drawing has an artist behind it, and no picture can ever appear spontaneously. In the same way, such a flawlessly made living thing, as beautiful as any work of art, also has a Creator. That Creator is Almighty Allah, Lord of the entire universe. The human body also exhibits the sublime creation and glory of Allah. For example, the skeleton that represents the framework of the human body is a marvel of engineering in its own right. It is the body’s structural support system. It protects such vital organs as the brain, heart and lungs and supports the internal organs. The skeleton bestows an excellent power of movement. This property cannot be replicated by any artificial machine. Furthermore, contrary to what most people imagine, bone is not inanimate. It stores minerals such as calcium and phosphate, or else distributes previously stored minerals to the body, depending on its needs. The bones also manufacture red blood cells. This multi-functional skeletal system is just one of the perfect systems in the human body. Allah, Who created all these with a matchless design and Who continues to create them, constantly manifests His might before us. In one verse from the Qur’an, Allah reveals: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- He said, ‘Our Lord is He Who gives each thing its created form and then guides it.’ (Surah Ta Ha, 50) AL-MUGHNEE (He Who Bestows Wealth on Whom He Pleases) 1
  • 11. I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- That it is He Who enriches and Who satisfies. (Surat al-Najm, 48) True wealth belongs to Allah alone. He greatly enriches whomsoever He wishes, while testing others with poverty for a time. The wealth, property and possessions that people enjoy in this world in fact belong to Allah alone. Nobody will be able to take any of his belongings with him after he dies. He will have to leave behind everything he worked for and amassed during his lifetime. Allah says this in the Qur’an about those people who still boast of enjoying great wealth and possessions, whose wealth makes them proud, and who forget our Lord as a result: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Do they imagine that, in the wealth and children We extend to them, We are hastening to them with good things? No indeed, but they have no awareness! (Surat al-Mu’minum, 55-56) The messengers of Allah used the possessions He bestowed on them on good works intended to please our Lord and earn His approval. They spent all they possessed for very different purposes than those whose wealth makes them proud, and who forget the true Lord of all things. Allah, Lord of all things in the universe and the sole Creator of all, bestows wealth on whomever He pleases in this world. But it is in the Hereafter that He will bestow true wealth. All believers who have faith in Him, who spend their lives doing good works and thus seek to earn His approval, will be blessed with great wealth in the Hereafter. Allah says this about Paradise in the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Seeing them, you see delight and a great kingdom. They will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure draught to drink. ‘This is your reward. Your striving is fully acknowledged.’ (Surat al-Insan, 20-22) 1
  • 12. DHU AL-JALAL WA AL-IKRAM (The Lord of Greatness and of Generosity and Munificence) I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- Blessed be the name of your Lord, Master of Majesty and Generosity. (Surat ar-Rahman, 78) There are countless blessings to delight a person in this world. Allah has adorned this world with many details that will delight His servants. But it is in Paradise that Allah will reveal His true generosity and munificence. The paradise depicted in the Qur’an reveals His infinite magnificence. One of the distinguishing features of Paradise described in the Qur’an is that everything that one's earthly desires can wish for is provided. Paradise is a place where food and comfort are constantly provided, which is neither too hot nor too cold, and enjoys just the right amount of shade. Allah will place His servants among shade and springs in the Gardens of Paradise as a blessing from His Presence. Believers will be given all the fruit and meat they desire in Paradise, which is adorned with various beauties and fineries. As revealed in verses, believers enter Paradise to be given in boundless quantities. Lofty mansions have been erected for people in Paradise. Rivers flow beneath these mansions. They sit on thrones of specially carved jewels and look around them. The generosity on display here is truly magnificent. Servants at their disposal move among them with silver bowls. Believers’ clothing is also extremely eye-catching. Allah reveals this in the Qur’an in the words: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- ... they will be adorned with gold bracelets and pearls, and where their clothing will be of silk. (Surat al-Fatir, 33) Paradise is certainly much superior to the description provided here. Allah reveals His infinite generosity and blessings in Paradise as follows in verses of the Qur’an: I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed satan- ... they will have there all that their hearts desire and their eyes find delight in. You will remain in it timelessly, for ever. (Surat az-Zukhruf, 71) 1
