4. PRODUCTION, UTILIZATION AND CHALLENGES
LOW RICE BRAN UTILIZATION FOR PRODUCING RICE BRAN OIL - REASONS?
In Vietnam, only the Mekong Delta has the potential for
producing RBO due to concentrated milling.
The Mekong Delta accounts for 55% of rice bran
availability in Vietnam.
All current RBO extraction plants in Vietnam are
located in the Mekong Delta.
Rice production 12.7 mil MT
Rice bran production 1.56 mil MT
CRBO potential in the Mekong Delta 234 KMT
CRBO production in 2017 23 KMT
Current utilization 10%
5. CHALLENGES IN RICE BRAN OIL INDUSTRY –
LOW OIL CONTENT AND HIGH FFA
LOW OIL CONTENT AND HIGH FFA HIGH PRODUCTION COST, LOW OIL YIELD, UNCOMPETITIVE OIL COST
WHY? WHY?
- Over polishing
- Lack of parboiled rice
- Rice variety
- Lack of parboiled rice
- Tropical weather
- Logistics difficulties
