However, with value added processing of the seeds, the value of business in this product can get to over Twenty Billion Naira. What more? Over 100,000 jobs can be created.
  4. 4. HISTORY OF SESAME SEEDSSesame seed is one of the oldest seeds known tomankind. The seed may have originated fromAsia or Africa and is now grown in most of thetropical and temperate regions of the world.As far back as 5,000 years ago, the Chinese wereusing sesame seed oil for fuel and for making ink.Also, paintings in ancient Egyptian tombs datingback to 4,000 years show Bakers sprinkling sesameseeds into dough.The Roman Empire is not left out in the use of thisancient seed as sesame was used as spreading forbread amongst other things.
  5. 5. USES Sesame seed has very high oil content of about 50‐54%. It is used in making edible vegetable oil(sesame oil). Sesame seed is also used in many food preparationsworldwide. Due to its unique nutty flavor, crunchy sensation andsmall size, it has become a very important ingredientin making hamburgers as toppings on hamburgersbuns. Sesame seed also go well with chicken and othermeats; it can also be sprinkled over biscuits, breadrolls, and pizza.

  14. 14. PROCESS EXPLANED When raw sesame seeds are received in the factory,it is first cleaned to 100% purity level. Cleaning isabout destoning. The essence of this cleaningprocess is to ensure that the grain is free of dirt,dust, stones and all foreign matter. Aftercleaning, the seeds are then roasted and thencooked, thereafter the grain is crushed, thenfiltered, and allowed to settle, and again filtered,and allowed to settle a second time before thefinal filtration before packaging into drums, cansor bottles .
