14. Our country,
Portugal
Portugal is located in
southwest of Europe and has
2 archipelagos on Atlantic.
The continent is limited by
Spain at north and Este and
by the ocean at south and
west.
The continent is divided by
the principal portuguese river
Tejo. Northerly, the
landscape is made by
mountains and plateaus.
Southerly, it is made by
plains
The archipelagos are named
Açores and Madeira and
these are the islands that
belongs to each one of them

temperate Mediterranean climate
Summers and Springs are mild at north
and center, but the temperatures can
rise to 40ºC during July and August
especially in the south
The autumn and winter are typically
windy, rainy and cold.
North and center can reach negative
temperatures, while south region passes
the winter with temperatures around
5ºC.
16. Some historial marcs
Portugal became known because of their discoveries, which were totally new to the
world.
Portugal has start by being a little county dependent on Castela (nowadays’ Spain) but
then it became independent.
The lack of liberty on our country wasn’t just related to the subordination to other nation
but also related to the existence of an authoritarian regime before, during and a little
after Second World War. The Portuguese authoritarianism was similar to the Italian
one, even though it was rustier and had a huge mask over all the obsession for
extinguishment and order. Contrary to Germany and Italy, Salazar, our dictator was
always giving an idea of freedom (for example, doing elections, allowing opposition
groups) but in the end he would be always cheating.
Since the end of that regime, in 1974, we have been a free country with more and more
stuff to show

eighth and ninth grades
the high school includes de tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades and it is organized
according to the chosen course that can prepare students to start a job life of to
continue the study.
The higher education is made by 2 subsystems, the university one and the polytechnic
one.

Portuguese guitar.
This guitar is used in the most unique music style in Portugal, Fado, that is
always associated to Amalia Rodrigues’s who was the most famous.
Explain what Fado is, is really hard because Fado is characterized by a
Portuguese word “saudade” that hasn’t translation. It is a melancholic,
beautiful and poetic word to express the feeling of missing.
On a try to explain Fado we will show the Amalia’s explanation “expired
souls, lost nights, bizarre shadows. On Mouraria, one ruffian sings, guitars
cries. Love, jealousy, ashes and fire, pain and sin... all of this exists, all of
this is sad, all of this is Fado
