Miley is seen as the only person in her
video, this is to promote brand identity. It
shows her free spirited attitude towards
life. Especially with the recurring themes of
nature, shown here with her walking across
the beach. She is also wearing some
bohemian styled trousers which have

This relates to the theme of nature
throughout the video. In each scene she
changes outfit but is often shown wearing
white (such as here). This connotes the ideas
of innocence and freedom as white symbols

The balloons are shown again that featured
at the start. They help incorporate bright
colours which contradict the plain white and
grey she wears throughout the video.

this is to further show the themes of nature
throughout this video. The purple goes well
with the colour scheme of vibrance.
Miley’s face is over-layed a sunset, which
connotes the ideas of the day coming to the
end. She sings about making “a wish” which
can be related to her never wanting this
perfect day to end.
3. She is seen running with the balloons again,
which has connotations of the ideas of
freedom. During this she is singing about
“Malibu” which could either be interpreted as
referring to the alcohol and how she feels
drinking it. Or she could be referring to place
and how free she feels when she is there.
In this clip she is running a dog following
her, this further promotes the ideas of
freedom in that she can go wherever she
likes and her dog will follow. This could also
connote ideas of companionship as dogs
represent loyalty and she is singing about
someone who stands by her in Malibu.

suggesting a circular narrative. It also includes
bubbles across the screen which show the
themes of freedom as they fly away.
In this final scene, Miley is shown walking
towards the ocean which links to the theme
in her lyrics of water and the sea. At one

To swim away with the fish”
This connotes the idea of her walking into the
ocean, which is shown in the video.
