3. Stealth Technology
3
Low observable technology
Used in military aviation
Reduces detection range of an air
craft
Partial indivisibility to radar and
other detection
Without stealth
4. (History)
The first “STEALTH” ships have been
developed in Germany during the last years of
WWII.
This technique has also been used in aircrafts.
Later Americans worked on this
technology and succeeded.

5. • Radar-absorbent material, or RAM, is a class
of materials used in stealth technology to
disguise a vehicle or structure from radar
detection.
• A common misunderstanding is that RAM
makes an object invisible to radar.
What is Radar Absorbing material orWhat is Radar Absorbing material or
RAM (stealth)?RAM (stealth)?

6. Function & Working of RAM (stealth)Function & Working of RAM (stealth)
• Nano-structural composite material, absorbing
without reflection radar wave.
• Foam absorber
• Iron ball coating
• Rubber composite
6
7. Foam Absorber
• Fireproofed urethane foam loaded with
conductive carbon black
• [carbonyl iron spherical particles, and/or
crystalline graphite particles] in mixtures
between 0.05% and 0.1% (by weight in
finished product)
Honey comb Square base pyramids 7
8. Iron ball coating
•Tiny spheres coated with carbonyl iron
or ferrite
•contain traces of carbon, oxygen, and
nitrogen
•Grains are embedded in polymer matrix
(epoxy resin)

9. Iron ball coating(Working)
• Molecular oscillations
• Conversion of Radar energy to heat
energy
• Heat is further dissipated by the plane
surface

11. Rubber composite
11
• Graphite embedded in rubber matrix
• Other semiconductor materials can also
be used
• Layered structure
• Efficiency is affected by sea water
• Withstand the water drag force
Mostly used by
submarines
