1. By Hazel B. Calivo
The City Schools Division of Urdaneta
City conducted a Division Seminar-Workshop
on PPST-RPMS for Private School Heads and
Teachers of Urdaneta City last February 1-3,
2019 at CB Mall Event Center, Nancayasan
Urdaneta City.
The training was conducted in
adherence to DepEd Order No. 42, s. 2017
where, public and private schools are enjoined
in the adoption of the Philippine Professional
Standards for Teachers (PPST). Private
schools offering basic education are under the
umbrella of the Department of Education
(DepEd) and expected to develop holistic
learners who are steeped in values and
equipped with 21st century skills. Thus, private
school heads and teachers must realize their
vital role in developing 21st
century learners.
The training focused on how the private
school teachers attain specific domains and
competencies that are expected of them as set
in the PPST. The teachers were familiarized on
the Results-Based Performance Management
System (RPMS) tools, Self-Assessment Tools
(SAT-RPMS), and Classroom Observation
Tools (COT-RPMS).
During the training, participants were
engaged in individual and group activities,
allowing them to share insights and experiences
relative to securing Means of Verifications
(MOVs) needed in each Key Result Area (KRA)
in each objective. Private Schools
Heads/Principals were also encouraged to
adopt policies set in the PPST and in the RPMS
which can be integrated in their existing system
in evaluating teachers’ performance.
The conduct of the said event builds a
strong partnership between the private and
public schools in attaining DepEd’s Vision and
paved a way in opening doors for more trainings
and seminars for private school heads and
teachers.
