Objective ● To briefly revise phrases used to express likes and dislikes ● To introduce phrases used to check for understanding and phrases used to clarify one’s point or idea
Revision Phrases used to express likes and dislikes “ I like” “ I do not like” I love... I dislike... I am fond of.. I am not fond of... I enjoy.. I do not enjoy.. I am crazy about... I am not crazy about... I am mad about.. I am not mad about... I adore... I do not adore.. I fancy.. I do not fancy... I am into I am not into..
Revision activity Below are different activities. Using the previous phrases, express whether you like or dislike the following activities. 1. Eating vegetables 2. Eating meat products 3. Listening to music in your language. 4. Listening to English music. 5. Ironing your clothes. 6. Going on shopping sprees. 7. Cooking traditional local dishes. 8. Cooking international dishes. 9. Dancing 10.Playing sports

Phrases to check understanding Do you understand? Does that make any sense? Are you following me? Are you with me so far? Any questions?
Activity 1 Use the phrases check for understanding while explaining the directions below. How to mop 1) Choose a mop or bucket. 2) Choose a cleaner. 3) Sweep or vacuum. 4) Fill the bucket with water and cleaner. 5) Begin to mop. How to turn on a BRAND NEW TV without a remote 1) Read through the manuals. 2) Check if your TV has a visible power button on the sides of the TV 3) Click on the power button.
Phrases used to clarify one’s point or idea Let me explain that differently... Let me explain in detail.. Sorry, let me explain.. In other words... To say this differently.. To put it another way.. To put it differently... Let me elaborate..
Activity 2 1. Look at activity 1 again. Use the phrases above to clarify. Imagine someone really doesn’t understand the directions. Activity 3 1. Look at the revision activity. Use phrases to check understanding and to clarify your different reasons for liking or disliking the different activities.
