3. Existing ProductRecognizable title –
carried throughout
every issue the font is
called Royal Acidbath
and is used on every
issue, continuity
The red collar on the t-
shirt matches the red
theme of the magazine –
looks appealing
White t-shirt runs with the
theme of the magazine
which makes it look more
appealing as it doesn’t use
too many colors
50th anniversary – then
further down the page it
talks about coming of age so
everything links up which
makes it look more
professional
Mentions The Beatles
who were very popular
around 50 years ago
and due to the
magazine having a 50th
anniversary they would
reference this as well as
modern music
This allows the
magazine to appeal to
many different age
groups as it references
different eras of music
The name is in bigger
writing which establishes
the artist, it is also easy
to read/catches your
eye. Attracts the fans
Repeating the number 50 –
emphasizes how many years it
has been running
Mentions his
time in One
Direction – He’s
recognized for
that
All the colors stand out and the
magazine looks aesthetically pleasing
as all the colors stand out but not too
many colors are used so the cover
doesn’t look too busy
4. Existing ProductThe title uses a
bold, black serif
type of font which
stands out against
the grey
background
Adele takes up most of
the double page spread,
she looks sophisticated
which is emphasized
through the rest of the
magazine
The color scheme to
this magazine is
monochrome which
emphasizes the
sophisticated theme
Women who rock 2012 was a
series of articles that the Rolling
Stone had done in series of issues
The editing used has created
an airbrushed look of Adele.
It is a close up of her looking
away from the camera this
creates a sense of intimacy
with the artist like we are
getting to know them
The kicker informs the
readers of what is
expected from the article,
in this case Adele is talking
about her album 21. It is in
a different typeface to the
heading however it still
stands out by itself
The age range for Rolling
stone is anyone from 15-24
however having Adele in
the magazine with this sort
of layout adds a sense of
sophistication to the
magazine which may
attract an older generation
This article took up
multiple pages in the
magazine which suggests
the significance of
women in the industry
5. Existing Product
I chose this picture to represent the
audience as it is a teenager listening
to music and the audience for Harry
Styles is mostly the older teenagers
and I think this image represents that.
Also this magazine appeals to people
who listen to music and take an
interest in it
7. Existing Product
The iconic Rolling Stone
title at the top of the
page, differs to the
previous one mentioned
as it doesn’t have the
slightly yellow border,
However the Royal
Acidbath font is still there
so it’s continuos through
every issue
Shawn takes up most
of the space – which
suggests the
magazine is about
him and highlights
how relevant he is
His name is in big
writing to attract
a certain type of
audience
possibly
teenagers
He’s looking
directly at the
camera – sense
of intimacy
getting to
know the artist
?
8. Existing ProductMasthead is clear and
eye catching and in the
red Rolling Stone color
Image of the band
that takes up most of
the space – their
album cover uses the
same tones which is
intertextuality and
also advertising the
advert
Introduction is
written in a red
bold writing to
make it stand
out from the
rest – eye
catching
Written in columns like a
newspaper – official and
gives a sense of
seriousness to the band
and their album
promoting

Cara is taking up all of
the magazine cover
which suggests the
magazine is primarily
about her and focusing
on her
‘VOGUE’ is written
in a slightly altered
version of Didot –
recognizable around
the world
In bold white writing it
is emphasizing that
that is a collections
special
The colors of the magazine
compliment each other and
it doesn’t look too busy
However the orange color
near her hair doesn’t stand
out as it is difficult to read
An airbrushed look gives a
sense of perfection which
could imply a perfect
magazine?
Addresses the audience – also
implies there is something for
everyone so it is targeting a wide
range of audiences
13. Research Analysis
• What common features do the researched
products have?
The magazines I have researched all have had the person on the front of the magazine
looking at the camera, and then had a few lines referring to them underneath. They all
have had colours that relate to the other issues of the same magazine
• What aspects of the research will you include
within your on work?
Within my work I will have someone on the cover looking directly at the camera and
also have the same colour scheme throughout the magazine
