GETTING TO THE GOAL IN 2019
It is that time of the year when teams and individuals set goals. Unfortunately, somewhere in the
year, some realize that these goals have not been accomplished.
2. The question is: “How can we ensure that we attain these goals?”
Below are some some strategies to apply:
(1) Set your goal - Clearly identify what you want to attain
(2) Identify gaps - Review your performance as you go along. Look at where you are
versus where you should be. If there are gaps, why do they exist and what can be done
to address these issues? What resources will you need? How will you attain these
resources? What changes will have to be made in order to attain the goal? What
sacrifices will have to be made in order to attain the goal?
(3) Take it in stages - Do not be overwhelmed by the goal. “Rome was not built in a day”.
See your goal as a project and let there be different phases in your project. Each phase
should have its own activities and each activity should have a start and end time.
When all the activities in one phase are completed, move on to the next phase of the
project.
(4) “Let not your hands be idle” - “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not
your hands be idle” Eccl.11:6. Attaining the goal requires a high level of consistency and
commitment. It might require long hours of work. It might require a whole lot of sweat. It
might require your all!
(5) Attitude is everything - Is your mindset conducive to you attaining the goal? What is
your attitude as it relates to the goal?
Is your attitude one of confidence? “If you have no confidence in self, you are twice
defeated in the race of life” Marcus Garvey
Is your attitude one of strength and determination? “Whatever your hands find to do, do
it with all your might” Eccl. 9:9:1
Get to the goal by getting the right attitude. Attitude is everything!
