2. Using every skill, trick and device known in
their specialties, the surgeons were able to
stop the bleeding within a couple of hours. The
operation continued. Finally, the plastic
surgeons sewed the last skin flaps to close the
wounds, and the 22-hour surgical ordeal was
over. The Siamese twins – Patrick and
Benjamin – were separated for the first time in
their lives!
(An excerpt from the book, Gifted Hands, by
Dr. Ben Carson)
3. It is a relief to know that even wounds as
sensitive as the one described in the above
excerpt can be closed and eventually healed
4. The same is true for emotional wounds.
Emotional wounds can develop from problems
experienced in the workplace or in the
personal lives of employees
5. These wounds, if not fully healed, can cripple an
individual’s capacity to grow personally or
professionally
6. Emotional wounds can reduce self-esteem,
motivation and productivity while distracting
persons from personal and professional goals
7. In spite of this, some persons may not even be
aware that they are wounded
12. This analysis should present an opportunity for
persons to garner life lessons from the
experience while not being too hard on
themselves
13. The Johari Window, a concept developed by
Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham, proposes that
persons have a “Secret” area which houses
their hidden fears, addictions and pains
18. As a child, whenever I got a cut, I would cry just
at the sight of it
19. However, there were other times when I would
not cry because I was not aware that I got cut
20. Looking back at the wound makes it harder to
endure the pain
21. That is what happens when persons keep
revisiting the emotional pain
22. It becomes more painful and it lengthens the
healing process
23. In his book, The Purpose Driven Life… for the
Graduate, Rick Warren states that personal
experiences and in particular, painful
experiences are designed to shape us in order
for us to fulfill our life’s purpose
24. What is the purpose of your painful experience?
25. How can this experience be used to accomplish
something positive?
26. After being hurt by his brothers, Joseph was able
to identify the purpose of his pain and
declared: “You intended to harm me, but God
Intended it for good…” Gen 51:20
27. Break through the barriers that wounds have
erected and use the wounds as a motivator to
accomplish personal and professional goals
