Sub-skills of Reading and
Phonological Awareness.
Here, Phonology relates to the speech
sounds of a particular language.
 Reading Aloud.
Aloud here means in a voice that other
people can hear.
 Vocabulary.(w.r.t. Text books)
Important tips
 Roll your tongue for phoneme /r/
pronunciation.
 Phoneme : any one of the set of smallest
units of speech in a language that
distinguish one word from another.
 One vowel sound gives us one syllable.
 Syllable : any of the units into which a
word is divided containing a vowel sound
& usually one or more consonants.
 When there is a double letter it is split to
produce separate syllables. Eg. lit-tle.

digraphs?
 Consonant blends(also called as
consonant clusters) are groups of two
or three consonants in words that
makes a distinct consonant sound . Eg.
“bl” or “spl”.
 Consonant digraphs are groups with
combination of of two letters
representing one sound. Eg. “ph”, “qu”.
 When a digraph is split by a consonant
it becomes a split digraph. Eg. Wrote-
“oe” make one sound.
