Course Content
Personal & Interpersonal Skills: understand personal identity &
personal growth, enhance self awareness, self esteem & assertiveness.
(Possibility of offering Fetac level 3 or 4, but this will depend on the needs of the overall
group. This will be decided in collaboration with the group during week 3 of the course)
Social Awareness: understand a range of social issues & how these
may affect your own life
Self Advocacy: Understand the term self advocacy, develop some
practical self advocacy skills, understand ‘rights’ –from a disability
perspective.
Computer Skills: continue to develop your skills
Days & Times of course
Course will take place on Tuesdays & Fridays, from 10 am – 1 pm
Course starts Tuesday 17th May, for 24 weeks
Holidays for the month of August
Course will finish on Friday 2nd December
Venue
Classes will take place in the Oblates House of Retreat, Inchicore
Computer classes will take place in Inchicore College
Cost
This course is free
Supports available during the course
A Link Worker will meet with participants and tutors regularly. The
Link Worker will be available on an ongoing basis to provide advice &
support on any issues that may arise.
2. A Roving Assistant may be available (depending on need) on a daily
basis, to support any practical needs that arise.
Applying for a place on the course
Complete an application form & post or e-mail to us by 5pm Friday 15th
April
People who apply will be invited to a short interview on Wednesday
27th April.
Successful participants will be sent a letter on Thursday 28th April
Criteria for getting a place on the course
Participants must be in receipt of a Disability payment from
Department of Social Protection
Priority will be given to people living in the Canal Communities area
(Inchicore, Bluebell, Kilmainham, Islandbridge & Rialto)
Applications will also be considered from people living outside the area
Participants will expected to show
strong motivation
an interest in furthering their own education
a willingness & interest to engage in their own community.
