2. J.F. Brennan Experience
• While at JFB I worked in the lock and dam division and was given the
opportunity to work on multiple different Lock and Dam jobs along the
Mississippi river acting as an assistant project manager and estimator.
• My overall experience with JFB was fantastic. Though I have worked in the
construction industry for many years I have never worked in the marine
construction field until now, which made me very nervous coming into the
internship. The people I was able to work with made me feel like I had been
working there for years and were so welcoming. The different project
managers and supervisors I worked with were extremely approachable and
helped me with every question and problem I ran into.
• It was also cool to see how important every job is to JFB and the high standard
of safety and quality that is included into every single job. They take very
good care of their employees, which is reflected by the enthusiasm and hard
work of each individual.
3. Lock and Dam No. 17 – New Boston,
Illinois
• During my time at Lock and Dam No. 17, I was able to watch as JFB put the
finishing touches on a wall concrete repair job.
• I acted as an assistant project manager completing submittals and doing
daily project manager tasks.
• This was a great opportunity to see the quality of work that JFB puts into
their projects, along with the respect they treat their clients with.
4. Alliant Energy – Prairie Du Sac,
Wisconsin
• At this project I was given the opportunity to watch over a gate hoist
assembly replacement.
• I acted as an assistant project manager doing daily reports and submittals.
• I also maintained strong communication with the engineers working for
Alliant, keeping them up to date on the progress of the project and any
issue areas.
5. J.F. Brennan Co. Office – La Crosse,
Wisconsin
• In the JFB office, I did a lot of take-off and quantity estimating for multiple
different projects, along with many other miscellaneous engineering tasks
and calculations.
• I worked mainly with excel and PDF to do the estimating.
• I was also able to participate in the weekly safety meetings and price
estimating meetings for various job proposals.
• While doing the estimations, I maintained communication with many
different venders and subcontractors to get their proposals and assist with
any questions or concerns that they had, so that JFB could put together
the final price proposal by the bid deadline.
