The Psalm 105:44 – The infrastructure of the Israelite nation was
built by the Gentiles. The crops they harvested, they did not plant.
They inherited the labor of the nations.
Timothy inherited his mother and grandmother’s knowledge of the
faith. (2 Timothy 1:5, 3:14-17)
Timothy was commanded to teach others also. (2 Timothy 2:2)
We too have inherited the labor (teaching) of early American
Christians
Standing on the Shoulders of Giants
4. Unlike Newton, our goal in teaching is not discover a new way, but
the Apostles’ way in the beginning.
(1 John 2:24)
The scriptures have always been all sufficient, but it helps to have a
guide. (Acts 8:31)
What took the older generation a life time to learn, we have been
handed in minutes.
We have been handed powerful scriptural arguments that others spent years
searching for.
Late 1700s preachers debated whether baptism meant immersion
1800s elders debated if the Lord gave authority for musical instruments in
His commandment to sing
In the 1930s some preachers seriously considered premillennialism as
doctrine from God.
In the 2000s…
Inheriting Their Labor
5. We need a verse 2 attitude
So we will not have a verse 4 attitude
Let’s encourage our brethren to be
fair-minded (Acts 16:11)
Not closed-minded, Not open-minded, FAIR-MINDED
The Bereans were willing to put in the effort to
judge scriptural arguments with the Scriptures
That means sometimes starting with a blank sheet of
paper and Matthew
The Bereans were not the people that were willing to
argue, but not willing to study
We must hand down an Is. 66 Attitude
