Genesis 1:5 - Meditate the Scripture Daily bit by bit
We Can Know the Truth
1.
2. “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed
Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My
disciples indeed. And you shall know the
truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:31-32
3. “As His divine power has given to us all
things that pertain to life and godliness,
through the knowledge of Him who called us
by glory and virtue.” 2 Peter 1:3
4. “how that by revelation He made known to
me the mystery (as I have briefly written
already, by which, when you read, you may
understand my knowledge in the mystery of
Christ),” Eph. 3:3-4
5. We Can Know the Truth With Certainty
• The apostles assured their hearers of this.
– Peter on Pentecost (Acts 2:36).
– Paul to the Corinthians (2 Cor. 5:1).
– Paul to the Galatians (Gal. 2:15-16).
– Peter in his 2nd epistle (2 Pet. 1:19-21).
• If the hearers and readers could know the truth on
these matters, they could know whatever truth the
apostles taught.
6. Some Are Ever Learning, but Never Gaining
• The apostles spoke disapprovingly of such.
– These are never able to come to full conviction of the truth
(2 Tim. 3:6-9).
– These are unwilling to accept the gospel in its purity and
simplicity (2 Cor. 11:1-4).
• Christians need to be rooted and grounded in truth.
– Once grounded they take the truth they have come to
understand and live it (1 Cor. 15:58; Heb. 2:1).
7. Knowledge of Truth Demands Effort
• Knowledge of truth comes from a search for truth
(Acts 17:11).
– He who searches for truth with an open mind will find it
(Matt. 7:7-8).
• Searching for the truth is an outgrowth of love for the
truth.
– Those who do not love the truth will believe a lie
(2 Thess. 2:10-12).
8. Someone will ask:
“Wouldn’t you acknowledge that there are some
who claim to know the truth, but in reality are self-
deceived and in error?”
Yes, but their error does not rule out the possibility of
another having truth.
9. “Some men came down from Judea and
began teaching the brethren, “Unless you are
circumcised according to the custom of
Moses, you cannot be saved.” Acts 15:1
10. “nevertheless knowing that a man is not
justified by the works of the Law but through
faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed
in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified
by faith in Christ and not by the works of the
Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh
will be justified.” Gal. 2:16
11. “Therefore do not be unwise,
but understand what the will
of the Lord is. .” Eph. 5:17
