2. INTRODUCTION OF GREEN
REVOLUTION
1960’s to 1970’s:-
RICE and WHEAT were the main crops introduced during
the first face of green revolution. It was first introduced in
Punjab, AP and TN.
1970’s to 1980’s:-
All the other crops were introduced in the second face and
also in all the other agriculture dependent regions of the
country.
HYV seeds:-
High yielding variety seeds where introduced which had the
capability of increasing the crop production by 25% to 100%
3. Increase in crop productivity-
663kg per hectare in 1951 to 2938kg in 2010-2011
The time gap between sowing and harvesting increased
which led to increase in area under cultivation from 13
crore hectares to 19 crore hectares

5. Owing to agrarian reforms the increase in crop productivity
has been significant but the rise in productivity has been
massive only in relation to our past productivity records.
Compared to developed nations our revolutionary changes
in productivity are highly insignificant.
In case of wheat, per hectare, India’s production was 2.8
tonnes while UK’s production was 7 tonnes in 2011.
In case was rice, per hectare, India’s production was 3.2
tonnes while China’s production was 6.7 tonnes in 2011.
