4. INTR0DUCTION
I have learnt about the hotel industry which is
commonly referred to as the hospitality
industry. Today, the hotel industry is the largest
sector of the service industry, offering this
concept of hospitality. From a friendly greeting
at the door, room service, breakfast, to a host
of facilities the hospitality industry offers
traveller’s “A Home Away From Home”.

Trident Hotel falls under the aegis of The
Oberoi Group. The Oberoi Group has presence
in six countries under the luxury ‘Oberoi’ and
five-star ‘Trident’ brand. Founded in 1934, it
operates 30 hotels, a Nile Cruiser and a Motor
Vessel in the backwaters of Kerala. The Group is
also engaged in flight catering, airport
restaurants, travel and tour services, car
rentals, project management and corporate air
charters.

Company was established by Albert Keller who
bought and franchised the name. In the early 1900s,
several hotels were known as The Ritz-Carlton, in
places such as Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh,
Atlantic City and Boca Raton. However, by 1940
none of the hotels were operating except The Ritz-
Carlton, Boston.
In 1983, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC was
formed, led by president and founding father,
Colgate Holmes.
In 1998, the success of the hotel had attracted the

was purchased by Marriott International.

36. Housekeeping department is a backbone of the
hotel. It is responsible for the cleanliness,
maintenance, aesthetic upkeep of the hotel. The
housekeeping department takes pride in keeping
hotel clean and comfortable so as to create a
“Home Away From Home”. The housekeeping
department is responsible for cleanliness of
rooms, floors, public areas & the whole hotel.
Cleanliness of the rooms is most important thing
because one can live in clean & safe environment.
Sale of rooms contributes 50% revenue to the
hotel. The housekeeping department takes care of
rooms & performs important role for impression
of the hotel in front of guest.

38. FLOWER
DEPARTMENT
Flower décor is a
compulsory addition for
hotel interiors. But
flowers do more than
offer aesthetic appeal;
they can actually
contribute as an ancillary
revenue stream. Hotels
are recommended it’s
preferred outside
vendors to meeting
planners so that they can
charge commission from
the vendors. Wedding
set-up are very common
vendors of the hotel for
function space.
39. LAUNDRY
It is the other department
under the housekeeping
department. The laundry
manager needs to report
to the Executive
Housekeeper. The laundry
department needs to
manage the linen supply.
The linen supply includes
the towels such as face
towel, hand towel and
bath mat, bed linen pillow
case and bed sheet. The
laundry department also
provides guest laundry
services, normally include
wet cleaning, dry cleaning
and pressing.
40. CONCLUSION
I have learnt a lot from Hospitality classes and I
am sure that it will help me in my present and
future life. Lack of good personality and
aspiring too high to get a job in hotel industry is
a futile one. So, once again I want to thank my
faculty MR. ROHAN DEY for helping me to earn
the requisite knowledge in this sector and
other allied matters.
