Purpose: understand the principle of the position of metals in the reactivity series
Method
 Take a dry test tube to your teacher, who will give
you a piece of calcium.
 Fill a different test tube about full with water.
 Carefully tip the piece of calcium into the test tube
containing the water.
 Look to see if the metal has reacted in the water.
 If any gas is given off, test it with a lighted splint.
 Feel the tube to see if it is warm.
 Record your results in a table.
 Repeat the test with the other metals.
