Pastor Javier Hidalgo leads a deaf ministry in Callao, Peru called Callao Church Deaf Ministry. The ministry has about 30 people who attend bible studies on Sundays. Javier and his family live an hour away by bus from the church in an unsafe, unstable house without proper zoning on the land. They are seeking to raise $7,000 by Christmas to purchase a new home closer to the church to allow Javier to more effectively lead the deaf ministry and for his family to have a safer living situation. So far they have raised $1,312 towards their goal.

6. Deaf Bible Study on
Sunday afternoons.
About 30 people come.
Some Deaf ride on the
bus for 2 hours to come
to church. Then, it’s 2
hours back home
again, in the dark!
11. Zarela (red shirt) came to
the US for heart surgery 4
years ago. She is growing
and fine! Her mom is
now a sign language
interpreter for the Deaf
group.
12.
13. Let us introduce you to
SAMUEL! He was
conceived at DOOR in
Costa Rica and was born
in Peru after Javier and
Sonia returned after their
1 year of Bible training.
17. Roque is 14 years old. He is
hearing and is Javier’s oldest
son. Some day he would like to
come to the US to study. He is
having a hard time meeting other
kids in the church, because his
family lives so far away from the
church, he cannot be involved in
the youth ministry.
19. Percy is one of the
several, young Deaf
leaders that Javier is
training. He is a good
friend of Roque’s. Pray for
opportunities for Percy to
go study at DOOR and
return to be a Deaf leader.
21. Pastor Javier and his wife
Sonia, studied Chronical
Bible Storytelling with
DOOR, in Costa Rica for
one year. Their children
stayed in Peru during this

Need your Help
The Hidalgos ride in this for about 20 minutes
after being on the bus…to get to
their house in the middle of a field.
31. The Deaf helped build
this house. It is very
humid. There is
mold, no floor, it is
dusty and dirty and it
smells. This is the
living room/dining
room.
32.
33. This is the bedroom.
Please notice that the
ceiling is made of
cardboard. You can see
outside through the
wooden slats. It is cold
in the winter.
34.
35.
36. The Hidalgo’s have
been robbed of their
furniture, TV, mattre
ss and stove. It is not
a secure place.
47. Javier is tired, frustrated and
weary. He is a hard working
servant for Christ. His living
situation has always been
difficult. He cannot build a better
house on this land, because it is
not zoned for houses. He is far
from the church and his children
are often sick.
48.
49. His family needs to move closer to
the church in Callao to have a more
effective ministry and a better life.
Despite his living situation, his
ministry is growing and
prospering!!
The church baptized 5 Deaf
recently. 6 more are in baptism
classes.
50. WE CAN HELP!! Javier’s family
can buy a house near Callao for
$7,000. Our goal is to raise $7,000
by Christmas 2005! What can you
sacrifice to help Javier? A family
vacation? Manicures? Restaurant
Food? This money will be given to
the church, so that they can help
Javier find a good, legal house to
buy near the Callao church!
