2. Importance of Community Links
▪ Community is the key to boosting morale during a pandemic, as seen
in communities affected by Ebola, for example.
▪ During COVID19, people are coming together to support their
communities by: helping with shopping for people who can’t go out
etc.
▪ Local GAA clubs, first responder groups and shops are all helping
boost morale in these tough times.
3. Government Support
▪ Government support and leadership undoubtedly impacts resilience
and morale during a pandemic.
▪ By making firm decisive decisions, Governments send out clear
instructions, helping to control fear and anxiety.
▪ Also, by supporting frontline workers, they help maintain a degree of
trust and respect among the population. For example, paying
student nurses for working during the pandemic.
▪ Inspirational speeches by senior government officials can help create
a sense of unity and pride in the midst of a pandemic.
4. Cultural Traditions
▪ Culture plays a huge part in every citizens life, and while events such
as St. Patrick’s Day, had to be cancelled, the Government recognise
its vital role.
▪ Minister of Health, Simon Harris, made an announcement classifying
the Easter Bunny as an essential worker, undoubtedly easing the
fears of young children that Easter would too be cancelled.
5. Religious Traditions
▪ Due to the lockdown, many religious ceremonies and events have
been cancelled.
▪ Live streamings of mass from churches, and allowing traditional
religious ceremonies be carried out (albeit in a smaller way) helps
combat feelings of hopelessness.
