BASIC FUNCTION SUMMARY
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Engineer will serve as a functional Continuous Improvement expert
supporting multiple airfield activities. The position is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating
with multiple cross functional teams and management to drive planned business results and
organizational goals.
FUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE:
This position requires knowledge gained from leading numerous events at the floor level. The Continuous
Improvement Engineer must possess proficiency with basic Continuous Improvement tools to include but
not limited to: Value Stream Analysis, Constraint Management, SMED, 6S, TPM, RIE, DMAIC projects, Six
Sigma methodologies /tools, Cost Analysis modeling etc.
BUSINESS EXPERTISE:
This position will have developed a strong understanding of the MRO repair of aircraft or similar activities
through previous experience gained as a “Process Improvement Expert”. The ability to organize
prospective Rapid Improvement events and projects into a fluid schedule which captures trends in the
business will be a significant impact of this role.
LEADERSHIP/PEOPLE MANAGEMENT:
The position will be expected to provide indirect leadership to airfield management and other functional
staff personnel. In the course of leading specific projects, the Continuous Improvement Engineer will be
required to provide direct leadership to participative team the members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in achieving MRO process optimization/re-engineering effort to address specific business
requirements and to eliminate waste from the repair processes
Coordinate TOC, Lean, Six Sigma (TOC LSS) activities, with airfield management and the Continuous
Improvement office.
Provide comprehensive, detailed cost analysis (labor hours, operations non-recurring costs and all
related assumptions) supporting for aircraft repairs and modifications.
Research, analyze and interpret historical data to support cost estimates and cost models.
Continually seek opportunities to improve the knowledge and skill of the facility management and
supervisors to positively impact the improvement of the business unit
3. Work closely with other disciplines to define and interpret statement of work and associated impacts
to operational parts including EVM /labor requirements
Works closely with production to understand repair processes, material usages and labor requirements.
Develop and maintain estimating tools, data and cost estimating models.
Serves as a internal consultant to upper management, present results of cost analysis estimates and
make recommendations
Work with IT/ERP systems to understand process performance indices and metrics
Conduct root cause analyses to address specific process or quality related problems
Implement mistake-proofing controls to sustain or improve process quality
Document processes using process mapping and value stream mapping and analysis
Maintain prospective RIE /projects – determine organizational impact & criticality
Plan, secure resources, and assure elimination of roadblocks for events
Lead RIE’s and projects to drive rapid organizational improvements and perform successive process
audits to ensure sustainment of improvements on past events
Train associates at all levels on TOC, Lean and Six Sigma tools and methodologies
Apply TOC LSS tools to measure and target efforts (i.e. VSM, SMED, 5S, TPM, Kaizen, etc)
Develop and instruct associates on TOC, Lean, Six Sigma training material and methods
80% of time will be spent on the floor, leading, training, and executing TOC /LSS activities
20% of time will be spent planning and executing employee training

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
This Continuous Improvement Engineer position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Manufacturing
Engineering or related discipline and 2 - 4+ years of experience as a Lean /Six Sigma Black Belt in a
Manufacturing environment preferred, extremely high energy level, ability to lead with or without formal
authority, will be proficient in driving rapid improvement deployments, extensive experience in Planning,
Leading and executing RIE/Kaizen events, a LSS Black Belt certification and evidence of project completion
is required.
4. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Physical Demands:
This classification activity is usually accomplished in an office environment and as such requires the scope
of physical movements and postures normally associated with these activities. Typical physical demands
or activities include climbing, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, kneeling, reaching and walking. May
be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 10 pounds. Special vision abilities
required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the
ability to adjust and focus.
Work Environment:
The working conditions are those of a normal office setting or environment, where there is little or no
physical discomfort.
