- The phenomenon of multiple groups
of cultures existing within one
society largely due to the arrival of
immigrant.
- A systematic and comprehensive
response to cultural and ethnic
diversity, with educational,
linguistic, economic and social
components, and specific
institutional mechanisms.
3 Interrelated Referents Of
Multiculturalism
1.Demographic-descriptive – existence of
linguistically, culturally, and ethnically diverse
segments in the population of a society.
2.Ideological-normative – focus towards the
management and organization of governmental
responses to ethnic diversity.
3.Progmatic-political – refers to the specific
policies developed to respond and mange ethnic
diversity.

major aim is to create equal
educational opportunities from
diverse racial, ethnic, social class
and cultural groups.

jurisdiction, introduce by selection policies
and institutionalized by settlement policies.

confidence in their unique and special back
grounds.

Four Approaches to Multicultural
Education
1.Contributions approach
2.Additive approach
3.Transformation approach
4.Social action approach.
Multicultural education is a
progressive approach for transforming
education that holistically critiques
and addresses current shortcomings,
failings, and discriminatory practices
in education.
Multicultural education is a concern
affecting every phase and aspect of
teaching enabling teachers to scrutinize
their options and choices to clarify
what social information they are
conveying overtly and covertly to their
students.

To implement multicultural

and administrators must attend

  1. Picture with background removed (Intermediate) To reproduce the picture effects on this slide, do the following: On the Home tab, in the Slides group, click Layout, and then click Blank. On the Insert tab, in the Images group, click Picture. In the Insert Picture dialog box, select a picture and then click Insert. Select the picture. Under Picture Tools, on the Format tab, in the Size group, click the Size and Position dialog box launcher. In the Format Picture dialog box, resize or crop the image so that the height is set to 7.5” and the width is set to 10”. To crop the picture, click Crop in the left pane, and in the right pane, under Crop position, enter values into the Height, Width, Left, and Top boxes. To resize the picture, click Size in the left pane, and in the right pane, under Size and rotate, enter values into the Height and Width boxes.
