Editor's Notes
Introduce the concept of Trusted Assessors
It started back in 2000 with the NHS plan – Equipment stores were re-configured into Integrated Community Equipment Services (ICES) run jointly by health and social care services in an integrated services. This would also provide demonstration and advice centres for people making equipment more accessible and user friendly.
By 2004 the ICES were improving and providing better integrated services but they found people were still finding it hard to access equipment. This was also different throughout the country it was felt that more staff needed to the ability to assess for and recommend equipment and staff needed standardised training to ensure continuity across the country
2005 – Trusted Assessor Framework was published to standardise and set forth competencies in which staff should be trained to in order to provide equipment a working group of charities and organisations in this field were put together to create them including the DLF
A suitably trained person that is able to recognise a need, recommend, measure for and fit a minor adaptation or low budget equipment to assist an individual to live more independently.
