On the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UNESCO, considering this great tradition of India as
useful for the world, has declared World Yoga Day. This is the global acceptance of our tradition and culture
OUR GREAT TRADITION OF YOGA IS
CONNECTED WITH PEOPLE’S MIND
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA
he word yoga is derived
from the Sanskrit
root
‘Yuj’. It means to join. In
the scriptures related to
yoga, yoga has been desig-
nated as the art and sci-
ence of healthy living. For
the first time here, Maha-
rishi Patanjali
codified
the Yoga Sutras by organ-
izing various meditation
practices.
If you go to the
Indian culture of the Ve-
das, then you will also
meet the tradition of Yoga
there. Hiranyagarbha
preached
yoga at the be-
ginning of creation. The
sages like Patanjali, Jai-
mini etc. later made it ac-
cessible to everyone.
Yoga has been accepted
here from the very begin-
ning as an ideal way of life
with a healthy body and a
healthy mind. Maharish
i
Arvind has described
the
practice of yoga as very
important for the overall
vision of life. I believe that
yoga is not a therapy, it is
the greatest means of self-
development. It has al-
ways been getting im-
portance here in us
only as a method of reali-
zation with the Supreme.
In such times when the
mind constantly wanders
in the blind race of mate-
riality, yoga is very useful
for mental peace and con-
tentment. On the initia-
tive of Prime Minister
Shri Narendra
Modi, UN-
ESCO, considering this
great tradition of India as
useful for the world, has
declared World Yoga Day.
This is the global accept-
ance of our tradition
and culture.
Indian culture is
associated with
loftyvaluesof life.
Yoga is the sound
of that culture.
This is the ideal
way of life, in
which the mind is
attached to the lofty
ideas of welfare
not only
for itself but for the whole
world. It is well known
that we have always be-
lieved in connectin
g, not
breaking. Yoga is the foun-
dation of this. Maharishi
Arvind has explained
yoga very deeply
. He
wrote, “Yoga does not
mean to give up life, but to
face the problems
and
challenges of life with
courage, keeping faith in
the divine power.” Accord-
ingtoAurobindo,yogais
not merely the
practice of dif-
ficult asanas
and pranay-
ama, but self-
less surren-
der to God
and trans-
forming one-
self into divine
form through
mental education.
Yoga is related to the
mind with the body
. If the
mind is healthy, then the
body automatically moves
towards health. In intui-
tion, a person is exposed to
ignorance
within himself.
Yoga helps with this. I
have felt it many times.
Maharishi Aurobindo has
given utmost importance
tointuitioninlife.Because
of this, humanity
has
reached the present stage
of progress. If the modern
generation joins the yogic
routine, it is made manda-
tory in schools and colleg-
es, then many complexi-
ties related to life can be
solved very easily
.
We all know that it is
the Prana Shakti that con-
trols all the activities and
arrangements of the body
.
Accumula
tion of life force
and its arrangem
ent is
possible
only through
yoga. Yoga is naturally re-
lated to Pranayam
a. Pra-
nayama awakens our in-
ner energy and makes it
healthy, balanced and ac-
tive. It is said that yoga
controls the tendencies of
the mind. Its meaning is
that yoga controls the in-
stincts related to our mind
and makes it conducive
to
a healthy life. Bhastrika
,
Kapal Bhati, Tribandha,
Anulom
Vilom, Bhra-
mari, etc. are such easy
yogas, which everyone
can practice with little ef-
fort. If these are done
regularly, then not only
the body but the mind also
remains healthy. For a
healthy, happy, and well-
being life, these activities
related to yoga are also
useful in the way that it
gives direction
to a posi-
tive life.
The meaning of yoga is
to know the powers with-
in, harness them and to
awaken
one’s infinite
powers within by realiz-
ing the inner self. Swami
Vivekananda had advised
yogis in his time that
their conduct and they
themselves should be-
come proof. What he
meant was that yoga
should be kept away from
profession
alism. It should
be seen as the welfare of
humanity, not as a mira-
cle. This is the greatest
need of the hour.
Lord Shri Krishna
has said in the Bhagavad
Gita, ‘Yogah Karmasu
Kaushalam’ which means
doing any work with skill
is yoga. This is a matter of
very deep meaning. If we

Mumbai: In view of a
rise in electric vehi-
cles (EVs) on the
road, the Maharash-
tra State Electricity
Distribution Co. Ltd
(MSEDCL) has pro-
posed to set up 2,375
EV charging stations
across the state, in-
cluding 1,500 in
Mumbai, over the
next three years.
The DISCOM has al-
ready set up 13 such
charging stations in-
cluding five each in
Thane and Pune, two in
Navi Mumbai, and one
in Nagpur. In addition,
work on additional 49
stations--17 in Pune, 10
in Navi Mumbai, six
each in Thane and Nag-
pur, two each in Na-
shik, Aurangabad,
Solapur, Kolhapur, and
Amravati--is in pro-
gress, officials said.
The state has already
approved the Maha-
rashtra Electric Vehi-
cle Policy in July 2021
to promote EV vehicles
and set up the relevant
infrastructure. EVs are
widely accepted as an
e n v i r o n m e n t a l l y
friendly alternative, es-
pecially in the face of
rising petrol and diesel
prices. It is expected
that EVs will account
for 30% of all vehicles
sold in India by 2030.
In line with this,
MSEDCL, which has
been appointed as the
nodal agency for set-
ting up EV infrastruc-
ture in the state, plans
to set up 1,500 charging
stations in Mumbai, 500
in Pune, 150 in Nagpur,
100 in Nashik, 75 in Au-
rangabad, 30 in Amra-
vati, and 20 in Solapur.
Similarly, the Mumbai-
Nagpur Samruddhi
Highway, Mumbai-
Pune Expressway,
Mumbai-Nashik, and
Nashik-Pune highways
will be equipped with
adequate EV charging
facilities.
The Union govern-
ment has allowed any
person or organization
to start a public charg-
ing station without any
license to enable the
electric charging eco-
system and EV charg-
ing stations can be set
up near a bus station,
train station, petrol
pump or shopping mall.
To this end, MSEDCL
has been told to provide
priority power supply
if private individuals
want to set up charging
stations. The state has
made a provision of
Rs40 crore for charging
infrastructure and also
announced financial
incentives to facilitate
the setting up of pri-
vate stations.

HIGH PRAISE
Earlier this month, Union Law Minister Kiren
Rijiju had praised Justice Shinde on Twitter
after he learned that the judge had presided
over almost 200 cases on a single day and sat
in the court hearing matters from 10.30 am to
8 pm while the office hours of HC end at 4.30
pm. “I am very happy to learn that Justice SS
Shinde of Bombay High Court had heard over
190 cases yesterday. He sat on the bench from
10.30 am to 8 pm!” Rijiju had tweeted along
with the picture of his chamber, on June 10.
SIMPLE STEPS
The regulator has asked airports to ensure
grass trimming and spraying of insecticides
inside the airport and carry out frequent run-
way inspections for bird activities. It has also
asked the airports to ensure regular garbage
clearance in the operational area and install
bird chasers and bird scaring devices. It has
also asked the airports to prevent water con-
centration or water logging in the operational
area, and ensure no drains are left open.

Jehan to test F1 car for first time with McLaren
Jehan to test F1 car for first time with McLaren
First India Bureau
New Delhi: Young In-
dian racer Jehan
Daruvala on Monday
took a substantial
step towards realizing
his Formula 1 dream
by securing a two-day
test with eight-time
constructors’ winner
McLaren.
The 23-year-old, who
is currently in his third
season in Formula 2,
will be clocking valua-
ble miles in a Formula 1
car for the very first
time. He will be driving
McLaren MCL35, which
competed in the 2021 F1
Championship, on June
21 and 22 at Silverstone
in the UK.
The test, which is
part of McLaren’s Test-
ing Previous Car (TPC)
programme, will give
Jehan a much needed
experience in a highly
complex Formula 1 car.
The track time will
also help him earn
enough points to apply
for a Super Licence,
which is needed to com-
pete in Formula 1.
Though Jehan is part
of the Red Bull Junior
Programme, he has got
the required go ahead
from the Milton Keynes
outfit to test with a rival
F1 team.
He has already said
the current Formula 2
season is a make-or-
break one for him as far
his Formula 1 dream is
concerned. He is cur-
rently in the middle of
his best season with five
podiums in six rounds,
pushing him to third
place in the standings.
Speaking to media-
persons from the UK,
the Mumbai-based driv-
er sounded ecstatic
about getting the
opportunity but said it
doesn’t guarantee any-
thing for 2023.
“This is nothing re-
lated to me getting a
drive next year in For-
mula 1. There are not
many seats opening up
in F1, but I have got this
opportunity to be in an
F1 car and do well and
if I do get the opportu-
nity I want to be ready
,”
he said.
“I have never driven a
Formula 1 car before.
This test is for me to
learn the car and its
characteristics and find
its limits. My aim is to
win the F2 Champion-
ships and hopefully I do
enough and my name is
out there (to be no-
ticed),”addedDaruvala.
He will be doing
rounds of the Silver-
stone track with speeds
in excess of 300kmph,
pushing his body to the
limit, especially the
neck with G forces in-
volved.

‘Need 400 staffers for phone,
video call access to inmates’
First India Bureau
Mumbai: The govern-
ment told the Bombay
High Court on Mon-
day that prisons in the
state were severely
short-staffed and did
not have the infra-
structure to provide
telephone and video
call access to inmates.
In an affidavit filed in
the HC through Maha-
rashtra Additional Di-
rector General (Prisons)
Sunil Ramanand, the
state government said it
will need to hire at least
400 additional staff
members to even begin
offeringsuchfacilitiesto
prison inmates.
The government was
responding to a Public
Interest Litigation (PIL)
filed by the People’s
Union of Civil Liberties,
seeking immediate in-
stallation of telephones
and other electronic
modes of communica-
tion for the resumption
of video and voice call-
ing facilities in all pris-
ons in the state. The
move came to enable in-
mates to speak with
their lawyers and rela-
tives. The PIL said dur-
ingthefirsttwowavesof
the COVID-19 pandemic,
prisonauthoritiesacross
the state had provided
telephone and video
conference facilities to
allprisonersirrespective
of theoffencestheywere
charged with.
The state govern-
ment, in its affidavit,
said the above facility
had been introduced as
an “exception” between
2020 and 2021 “purely on
compassionate and hu-
manitarian grounds”
because of pandemic-
related restrictions.
In its affidavit, the
state government said
it had provided for ‘coin
boxes’ where inmates
could make phone calls
after depositing coins
in the phone box, and
added that it had also
procured “smart
phones, Wi-Fi (facili-
ties), tablets, among
other facilities” for
phone and video calls.
However, now that
the state had resumed
‘mulaqaat’, or physical
meetings between in-
mates and their lawyers
and other visitors, the
above facilities had
been withdrawn, it said.
The state did not have
the requisite “machin-
ery or infrastructure” to
continue providing tele-
phone and video confer-
encing facilities, the af-
fidavit informed.
Besides, while the
‘Model Prison Manual,
2016’preparedbytheUn-
ion Home Ministry pro-
vides for video and
phone call facilities for
inmates, the manual has
not yet been adopted by
Maharashtra, the state
government told the HC.

about tree plantations.
As per the guidelines,
the green cover in
the city should be

Pune civic body to buy fibre boats
for rescue operations during floods
First India Bureau
Pune: With the city
experiencing flood-
like conditions during
the monsoon in recent
years, the Pune
M u n i c i p a l
Corporation (PMC)
has decided to
purchase fibre boats
on an emergency
basis to replace the
existing rubber boats,
which are in poor
condition.
“We have authorised
the transfer of `80 lakh
in funds to the civic fire
department for the
purchase of boats for
rescue operations
during floods in the city
.
These funds were
originally intended for
various purposes in the
disaster management
department,” Municipal

Fibre boats are more
durable compared to
rubberboatsandareless
likely to get damaged.
These boats will also
have facilities for
installing motors which
can help the boat to sail

current more effectively
.
The PMC had bought
eight rubber boats ten
years ago, but most of
them got damaged.
“The rubber boats
have been frequently
getting punctured. We
have repaired them
many times and have
somehow managed to
keep just two boats
operational. Thus, a
demand for eight fibre

On the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UNESCO, considering this great tradition of India as useful for
the world, has declared World Yoga Day. This is the global acceptance of our tradition and culture
OUR GREAT TRADITION OF YOGA IS
CONNECTED WITH PEOPLE’S MIND
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA
he word yoga is derived
from the Sanskrit root
‘Yuj’. It means to join. In
the scriptures related to
yoga, yoga has been desig-
nated as the art and sci-
ence of healthy living. For
the first time here, Maha-
rishi Patanjali codified
the Yoga Sutras by organ-
izing various meditation
practices. If you go to the
Indian culture of the Ve-
das, then you will also
meet the tradition of Yoga
there. Hiranyagarbha
preached yoga at the be-
ginning of creation. The
sages like Patanjali, Jai-
mini etc. later made it ac-
cessible to everyone.
Yoga has been accepted
here from the very begin-
ning as an ideal way of life
with a healthy body and a
healthy mind. Maharishi
Arvind has described the
practice of yoga as very
important for the overall
vision of life. I believe that
yoga is not a therapy, it is
the greatest means of self-
development. It has al-
ways been getting im-
portance here in us
only as a method of reali-
zation with the Supreme.
In such times when the
mind constantly wanders
in the blind race of mate-
riality, yoga is very useful
for mental peace and con-
tentment. On the initia-
tive of Prime Minister
Shri Narendra Modi, UN-
ESCO, considering this
great tradition of India as
useful for the world, has
declared World Yoga Day.
This is the global accept-
ance of our tradition
and culture.
Indian culture is
associated with
loftyvaluesof life.
Yoga is the sound
of that culture.
This is the ideal
way of life, in
which the mind is
attached to the lofty
ideas of welfare
not only
for itself but for the whole
world. It is well known
that we have always be-
lieved in connecting, not
breaking. Yoga is the foun-
dation of this. Maharishi
Arvind has explained
yoga very deeply
. He
wrote, “Yoga does not
mean to give up life, but to
face the problems and
challenges of life with
courage, keeping faith in
the divine power.” Accord-
ingtoAurobindo,yogais
not merely the
practice of dif-
ficult asanas
and pranay-
ama, but self-
less surren-
der to God
and trans-
forming one-
self into divine
form through
mental education.
Yoga is related to the
mind with the body
. If the
mind is healthy, then the
body automatically moves
towards health. In intui-
tion, a person is exposed to
ignorance within himself.
Yoga helps with this. I
have felt it many times.
Maharishi Aurobindo has
given utmost importance
tointuitioninlife.Because
of this, humanity has
reached the present stage
of progress. If the modern
generation joins the yogic
routine, it is made manda-
tory in schools and colleg-
es, then many complexi-
ties related to life can be
solved very easily
.
We all know that it is
the Prana Shakti that con-
trols all the activities and
arrangements of the body
.
Accumulation of life force
and its arrangement is
possible only through
yoga. Yoga is naturally re-
lated to Pranayama. Pra-
nayama awakens our in-
ner energy and makes it
healthy, balanced and ac-
tive. It is said that yoga
controls the tendencies of
the mind. Its meaning is
that yoga controls the in-
stincts related to our mind
and makes it conducive to
a healthy life. Bhastrika,
Kapal Bhati, Tribandha,
Anulom Vilom, Bhra-
mari, etc. are such easy
yogas, which everyone
can practice with little ef-
fort. If these are done
regularly, then not only
the body but the mind also
remains healthy. For a
healthy, happy, and well-
being life, these activities
related to yoga are also
useful in the way that it
gives direction to a posi-
tive life.
The meaning of yoga is
to know the powers with-
in, harness them and to
awaken one’s infinite
powers within by realiz-
ing the inner self. Swami
Vivekananda had advised
yogis in his time that
their conduct and they
themselves should be-
come proof. What he
meant was that yoga
should be kept away from
professionalism. It should
be seen as the welfare of
humanity, not as a mira-
cle. This is the greatest
need of the hour.
Lord Shri Krishna
has said in the Bhagavad
Gita, ‘Yogah Karmasu
Kaushalam’ which means
doing any work with skill
is yoga. This is a matter of
very deep meaning. If we

New Delhi : The notifi-
cation of Agneepath
Scheme of Army Re-
cruitment is about to be
released and the re-
cruitment process will
start soon. In this, the
appointment will be
done in the recruitment
rally as before. After the
announcement of this
scheme, within two
days, the government
changed the rule and
increased the age limit
of appointment from 21
to 23 years. This was
done because the rein-
statement in the army
was closed for the last
two years. Because of
this, the age limit for
the recruitment of
lakhs of youth in the
army had ended and ex-
tending this by two
years will give them a
chance to be reinstated
inthearmyasAgniveer.
However, this will cre-
ate a new problem.
Increasing the age
limit will greatly in-
crease the number of
youth participating in
the recruitment rally.
That is why it is being
said that just as the cen-
tral government has in-
creased the age limit, in
the same way, it can in-
crease the number for
the first year as well.
According to the plan so
far, a total of 46 thou-
sand youth are to be re-
cruited in the three ser-
vices in the first year.
This number is also
very less as compared to
the recruitment done
every year. The last time
when the recruitment
process was carried out,
80 thousand youth were
recruited. Even before
that an average of 60 to
70 thousands youths
were being recruited.
Since the appointment
has been closed for two
years, a large number
of youth have come un-
der the age limit re-
quired for appointment.
Duetonon-appointment
for two years, close to 1.5
lakh posts have become
vacant. Therefore, if the
government has given
relaxation in the age
limit in the first year,
then the number can
also increase slightly

New Delhi : The Con-
gress party has re-
placed Randeep Sur-
jewala with Jairam
Ramesh as the in-
charge of the commu-
nication department.
He is in charge of me-
dia, social media and
all communication.
There was talk earlier
that Randeep Surjewa-
la is in charge of Kar-
nataka, where elec-
tions are due next year,
so the communication
department could be
taken over from him.
Now the question is,
will Jairam Ramesh re-
tain or change the old
team of Communica-
tions Department?
There is speculation
about AICC secretary
and co-in-charge of
communication de-
partment Pranav Jha,
social media in-charge
Rohan Gupta and me-
dia department’s
Vineet Punia. After
Ramesh became the
head of the communi-
cation department,
there is a general per-
ception that the num-
ber of people working
in Hindi will be less
and their importance
will also decrease.
In Randeep Surjewa-
la’s team, the number
of people who spoke,
understood and worked
in Hindi were more.
Most of the people were
from Hindi belt, but
this situation will not
remain with Ramesh.
He is from Karnataka
and has a team working
with him in English.
Secondly, they are lead-
ers living in their ‘in-
tellectual ego’, so they
do not give preference
to too many people.
Thirdly, Ramesh is not
too active on social me-
dia. By the time he was
appointed the head of
the communications
department, he had 1.5
lakh followers on Twit-
ter and he used to fol-
low only 18 people. In
contrast, Surjewala
had more than 17 lakh
followers. That’s why
many Congress leaders
are believing that
Jairam Ramesh him-
self and the entire team
will have to work hard-
er and at the same time
give preference to Eng-
lish speaking along
with Hindi speaking
individuals. This is also
necessary because al-
most the entire media
team of BJP is going to
work in Hindi only
.
Under Jairam, will Cong’s ‘connect’ improve?

EXCESSIVE HEAT WAVE IN INDIA COULD SPUR FOOD PRICES FURTHER
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): India’s food in-
flation is likely to top 9
per cent on the back of
high feedstock prices,
according to a Nomura
report.
The report sees food
inflation surging in the
second half of the year
in Asia with major food
importers like Singa-
pore bearing the brunt
of higher prices of sta-
ples.
China’s harsh COV-
ID measures along
with swine fever in
Thailand and an exces-
sive heat wave in India
are some of the rea-
sons that could spur
food prices further.
“Consumers’ percep-
tion of inflation is
strongly influenced by
the prices of frequent-
ly purchased necessi-
ties, such as food, and
can lead to higher in-
flation expectations,”
Bloomberg quoted
from the Nomura re-
port.
India’s food inflation
was marginally be-
low the 8 per cent
mark in May com-
pared to 8.3 per cent
in April.
“Locally, the onset
of the summer heat
wave has also con-
tributed to the rise
in food prices,” the

by high vegetable pric-
es as heat waves
scorched perishables.
“Retail food inflation
has been higher than
non-food and the differ-
ence may be partly at-
tributed to the onset of
summer heat waves as
retail vegetable in-
flation, with a
weight of 6 per
cent in CPI bas-
ket, increased to
18.26 per cent in May
2022,” the finance min-
istry report added.
Not just vegetables,
even high edible oil
prices have led to a
higher food inflation.
India imports nearly
60% of its edible oil
and with supply dis-
ruptions continuing
due to the Russia-
Ukraine war, the prices
have surged.
The Nomura report
flags that rice could be-
come dearer as coun-
tries look for alterna-
tive in the wake of
wheat prices remain-
ing elevated.
To manage the do-
mestic situation better,
Centre had imposed a
ban on wheat exports
on May 13 to ensure
stable prices and food
security. Some relaxa-
tions were given on
May 17 allowing those
wheat consortium al-
ready registered with
customs.
Fin Min: Risk
of stagflation
low in India
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): Unlike the rest
of the world, which
is looking at a dis-
tinct risk of wide-
spread stagflation,
India is at a lower
risk owing to its pru-
dent stabilization
policies, the Finance
Ministry said in its
May Monthly Eco-
nomic Review. But
that said, like the
global economy,
which is expected to
see slowing growth,
India too is expected
to witness slowing
growth, the ministry
said. Rising commod-
ity prices and linger-
ing supply chain bot-
tlenecks in an envi-
ronment where the
global central banks
are withdrawing
pandemic-era meas-
ures have led to a
downgrade in global
growth forecasts.
While the Indian
economy too is ex-
pected to be impact-
ed, the ministry sees
it as being higher
thantheotheremerg-
ing market counter-
parts. “Rationalizing
of non-capex expend-
iture has thus be-
come critical for
avoiding fiscal slip-
page,” it said.

the tune of `500 crore.
The fundraising will
be through the issu-
ance of equity shares
or convertible war-
rants on a preferential
basis to one or more
entities belonging to
Vodafone Group (one
of the promoters of
the company).
“... A meeting of the

belonging to Vodafone
Group (one of the pro-
moters of the compa-
ny),” VIL said in a fil-
ing to BSE on Sunday
evening.
The move comes as
the Indian telecom
market is poised for
5G spectrum auction,
and subsequent roll
out of new-age offer-
ings.
Sources at the De-
partment of Telecom-
munications (DoT)
said that VIL’s equity

quired approvals on
the same are expected
as early as 7-10 days.
Duty-related measures to
slash steel exports by 40%
New Delhi (PTI): In-
dia’s steel exports is
expected to come
down by 40% to 12
million tonnes (MT)
in the ongoing fiscal,
as a result of the du-
ty-related measures
taken by the govern-
ment last month, ac-
cording to CRISIL.
The export of fin-
ished steel had
reached a record high
of 18.3 million tonnes
in the 2021-22 financial
year and the prices
were at their all-time
high, the agency said
on Monday
.
“India’s steel ex-
ports will drop 35-40%
to 10-12 million tonnes
this fiscal following
the 15% export duty
imposed on several
finished steel prod-
ucts last month. Ex-
ports of iron ore and
pellets will also fall
this fiscal, and lower
domestic prices,” the
CRISIL research anal-
ysis said.

Airlines’lossesgloballywill
be down to $9.7 bn this yr
Doha (PTI): The air-
lines’ losses globally
are expected to be
down from $52 bil-
lion in 2021 to $9.7 bil-
lion this year and in-
dustry-wide profit
should be on the ho-
rizon in 2023, Direc-
tor General of IATA
Willie Walsh said
here on Monday
.
International Air
Transport Associa-
tion represents some
290 airlines compris-
ing 83% of global air
traffic.
Walsh, in his inau-
gural speech at the
78th annual general
meeting of IATA
here, said that while
the outlook for air-
lines globally is posi-
tive, the business en-
vironment remains
challenging.
“The desire to trav-
el and the necessity
of moving goods are
both solid. Our in-
dustry is now leaner,
tougher, and nimbler.
Our latest analysis
shows losses in 2021
close to $42 bn, a
huge loss, but down
from our earlier esti-
mate of $52 bn,”
Walsh said. “And we
now believe that
global losses will be
cut further to $9.7 bn
this year. Industry-
wide profit should be
on the horizon in
2023,” he said.

RETIRED COP FOUND DEAD IN DRAIN
POLICE ADD GANG-RAPE CHARGE
AGAINST 8 ACCUSED IN TEEN’S SUICIDE
Nashik: On Sunday, two major fires were reported in
Nashik, one of which claimed the life of a 31-year-
old man. One of the fires started in an electric goods
showroom in the Ganjamal area, and the other in
Happy Home Colony near Nasardi Bridge. Mayur
Uttam Kalkhaire, a resident in Nasardi, has been
identified as the deceased. Officials said they found
smoke and fire coming from the upper floor of the
house when they responded to the call, which came
in at 5.35 pm. “Firefighters broke down the door and
found the charred body,” the official said.
Thane: Police have arrested three accused after a
long chase on the bridge near Kharegaon railway
crossing. Officials said the trio had been allegedly
involved in at least five cases of robbery and chain
snatchings. With the arrests, Kalwa police say they
have recovered property worth over Rs2.3 lakh.
Kalwa police had initially registered an FIR on 17
May, 2022, on the basis of a complaint from a man
who said he had been robbed of cash and a mobile
phone by three people who had threatened him with
a sharp weapon on the Kharegaon railway bridge.
Mumbai: The body of an 87-year-old retired
Mumbai policeman was found in a drain in Navghar,
an official said on Monday. “Shivdas Kumavat,
who retired as assistant inspector, suffered from
memory loss and had gone missing a few days
ago after which a complaint was filed. On Sunday
afternoon, he was found dead in a drain by a
conservancy worker. An accidental death case has
been registered,” he said. There are no marks on
the body and it seems he may have died after falling
into the drain, the official added.
Thane: Police have added the charge of gang rape
in the case registered after the suicide of a girl from
Dombivali on June 12, an official said on Monday.
The eight people arrested for far have now been
charged with gang rape and other offences under
IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
(POCSO) Act and the IT Act, the Kolsewadi police
station official said. The teen girl was sexually
abused and the accused had taken obscene
photographs and videos to blackmail her, police had
said. Her parents had found two notes in her mobile
phone that narrated the ordeal she had undergone,
an official said.

Bharat-centric approach to
farming needed: RSS chief
First India Bureau
Nagpur: RSS chief
Mohan Bhagwat on
Monday highlighted
the importance of
organic and ancient
methods of farming
and said it would be
wrong to reject such
local knowledge as
unscientific without
examining them.
He was speaking at
the annual ‘Convoca-
tion-cum-Scientific
Convention’ jointly or-
ganized by the Nation-
al Academy of Veteri-
nary Sciences (India),
New Delhi and Maha-
rashtra Animal and
Fishery Sciences Uni-
versity
, Nagpur.
Union Minister of
Fisheries,AnimalHus-
bandry and Dairying
Parshottam Rupala,
who was the guest of
honour, was bestowed
honorary fellowship
along with Bhagwat
and state minister
Sunil Kedar.
India’s farming and
animal husbandry
methods are the oldest,
Bhagwat said, adding
that modern science
has side effects but our
ancientknowledgeand
methods do not have
side effects.
“Focus must be on
flexibility in research
and the use of local
knowledge. It is wrong
to reject local knowl-
edge by terming it un-
scientific. You can re-
ject it after examining
it, you are free to reject
it if it is not right,” he
said at the event.
Adding that the
country was the num-
beroneeconomyinthe
world until 1700 AD, he
said,“Wehadanagrar-
ian economy at the
time, and industry and
commerce were also
related to agriculture.
We will need to have
Bharat-centric ap-
proach to achieve in-
creasing GDP
.”
Rupala spoke on
how to be independ-
ent through the coop-
erative sector as well
as methods to save
the soil.
“We will have to
come back to our old
method of repairing
soil through the dung
of indigenous cows. I
feel good days of the
cow and the animal
husbandrydepartment
will return in the com-
ing days, and these will
play important roles in
our economy and
growth,” Rupala said.
Even today, 65% of farmers cultivate
small land holdings and mechanised
farming is not very beneficial for them.
Because of fertilizers, etc., (farmers) fall into debt
and then commit suicide. They should be taught
sustainable agriculture which they can
understand. —Mohan Bhagwat, RSS chief
‘Wandering Mum streets at night when
no curfew in place is not an offence’
First India Bureau
Mumbai: Wandering a
street late at night in
a city like Mumbai
when there is no night
curfew is not an of-
fence, a local court
has said, while acquit-
ting a 29-year-old man
booked for sitting on a
road under suspicious
circumstances.
The city police had
registered a case
against the man on
June 13 and the Gir-
gaon metropolitan
magistrate’s court
passed its order acquit-
ting him on June 16.
The magistrate said
it was difficult for the
court to hold that the
accused was trying to
hide his identity to com-
mit an offence, based on
the evidence.
The police had
claimed that the man,
Sumit Kashyap, had
tried to cover his face
with a handkerchief
while sitting on a road
in south Mumbai. They
had registered the case
against him under Sec-
tion 122 (b) of the Maha-
rashtra Police Act.
The section has pro-
visions for booking a
person found between
sunrise and sunset for
having his face covered
or otherwise disguised
with intent to commit
an offence.
Magistrate Nadeem
Patel said, “The ac-
cused was arrested in
Mumbai at around 1.30
am. In a city like Mum-
bai, 1.30 am is not too
late. Anyone can stand
on the road and there-
fore,itcannotbetermed
as hiding the identity
with intent to commit
an offence.”
The court added,
“Even if it is assumed
that 1.30 am is too late,
then also, wandering on
the street is not an of-
fence when there is no
night curfew.”
People are used to wearing masks for safety
in the pandemic period. Though masks are
not compulsory, there is an advisory to wear
them. Some people use a handkerchief as a mask, and
if the accused is using the handkerchief as a mask to
cover his mouth, it does not mean that he is hiding his
identity. —-Girgaon metropolitan court

President has been asked to take this into consideration. —Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP On the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UNESCO, considering this great tradition of India as useful for the world, has declared World Yoga Day. This is the global acceptance of our tradition and culture OUR GREAT TRADITION OF YOGA IS CONNECTED WITH PEOPLE’S MIND INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA he word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’. It means to join. In the scriptures related to yoga, yoga has been desig- nated as the art and sci- ence of healthy living. For the first time here, Maha- rishi Patanjali codified the Yoga Sutras by organ- izing various meditation practices. If you go to the Indian culture of the Ve- das, then you will also meet the tradition of Yoga there. Hiranyagarbha preached yoga at the be- ginning of creation. The sages like Patanjali, Jai- mini etc. later made it ac- cessible to everyone. Yoga has been accepted here from the very begin- ning as an ideal way of life with a healthy body and a healthy mind. Maharish i Arvind has described the practice of yoga as very important for the overall vision of life. I believe that yoga is not a therapy, it is the greatest means of self- development. It has al- ways been getting im- portance here in us only as a method of reali- zation with the Supreme. In such times when the mind constantly wanders in the blind race of mate- riality, yoga is very useful for mental peace and con- tentment. On the initia- tive of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, UN- ESCO, considering this great tradition of India as useful for the world, has declared World Yoga Day. This is the global accept- ance of our tradition and culture. Indian culture is associated with loftyvaluesof life. Yoga is the sound of that culture. This is the ideal way of life, in which the mind is attached to the lofty ideas of welfare not only for itself but for the whole world. It is well known that we have always be- lieved in connectin g, not breaking. Yoga is the foun- dation of this. Maharishi Arvind has explained yoga very deeply . He wrote, “Yoga does not mean to give up life, but to face the problems and challenges of life with courage, keeping faith in the divine power.” Accord- ingtoAurobindo, yogais not merely the practice of dif- ficult asanas and pranay- ama, but self- less surren- der to God and trans- forming one- self into divine form through mental education. Yoga is related to the mind with the body . If the mind is healthy, then the body automatically moves towards health. In intui- tion, a person is exposed to ignorance within himself. Yoga helps with this. I have felt it many times. Maharishi Aurobindo has given utmost importance tointuitioninlife.Because of this, humanity has reached the present stage of progress. If the modern generation joins the yogic routine, it is made manda- tory in schools and colleg- es, then many complexi- ties related to life can be solved very easily . We all know that it is the Prana Shakti that con- trols all the activities and arrangements of the body . Accumula tion of life force and its arrangem ent is possible only through yoga. Yoga is naturally re- lated to Pranayam a. Pra- nayama awakens our in- ner energy and makes it healthy, balanced and ac- tive. It is said that yoga controls the tendencies of the mind. Its meaning is that yoga controls the in- stincts related to our mind and makes it conducive to a healthy life. Bhastrika , Kapal Bhati, Tribandha, Anulom Vilom, Bhra- mari, etc. are such easy yogas, which everyone can practice with little ef- fort. If these are done regularly, then not only the body but the mind also remains healthy. For a healthy, happy, and well- being life, these activities related to yoga are also useful in the way that it gives direction to a posi- tive life. The meaning of yoga is to know the powers with- in, harness them and to awaken one’s infinite powers within by realiz- ing the inner self. Swami Vivekananda had advised yogis in his time that their conduct and they themselves should be- come proof. What he meant was that yoga should be kept away from profession alism. It should be seen as the welfare of humanity, not as a mira- cle. This is the greatest need of the hour. Lord Shri Krishna has said in the Bhagavad Gita, ‘Yogah Karmasu Kaushalam’ which means doing any work with skill is yoga. This is a matter of very deep meaning. First India Bureau Mumbai: Justice SS Shinde of the Bombay High Court on Mon- day urged young law- yers to sacrifice their private practice and accept judgeship whenever offered for the benefit of litigants and the judiciary . On his last working day as the Bombay HC judge, Justice Shinde, who will be taking over as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court later this week, recalled the coopera- tion received from law- yers during his tenure. As he sat on a special bench with Chief Jus- ticeDipankarDatta,sen- ior lawyers, including Maharashtra Advocate General (AG) Ashutosh Kumbhakoni and Addi- tional Solicitor General (ASG)AnilSinghwished him success and praised him for his work. ASG Singh said all the lawyers appreciated how Justice Shinde “burnt the midnight oil” by sitting beyond court hours on several occasions to conduct hearings and pass or- ders. “Over the last 14 years, my lordship has devoted his time and service to this institu- tion, literally burning the midnight oil. He has heard matters till 7.30-8 pm. Even if a matter was heard till late even- ing, the next morning, its order would be made available for us,” said Singh. Justice Shinde, in turn, said he could do most of his significant work here because of the cooperation re- ceived from lawyers. “The Bar has bright upcoming juniors, but there is one thing I would like to say . As and when the occasion comes, please do accept judgeship. Because at the age of 38-40 years, they (lawyers) are say- ing no to judgeship. They need to make some sacrifice for the litigants and judiciary ,” said Justice Shinde. First India Bureau Mumbai: In view of a rise in electric vehi- cles (EVs) on the road, the Maharash- tra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) has pro- posed to set up 2,375 EV charging stations across the state, in- cluding 1,500 in Mumbai, over the next three years. The DISCOM has al- ready set up 13 such charging stations in- cluding five each in Thane and Pune, two in Navi Mumbai, and one in Nagpur. In addition, work on additional 49 stations--17 in Pune, 10 in Navi Mumbai, six each in Thane and Nag- pur, two each in Na- shik, Aurangabad, Solapur, Kolhapur, and Amravati--is in pro- gress, officials said. The state has already approved the Maha- rashtra Electric Vehi- cle Policy in July 2021 to promote EV vehicles and set up the relevant infrastructure. EVs are widely accepted as an e n v i r o n m e n t a l l y friendly alternative, es- pecially in the face of rising petrol and diesel prices. It is expected that EVs will account for 30% of all vehicles sold in India by 2030. In line with this, MSEDCL, which has been appointed as the nodal agency for set- ting up EV infrastruc- ture in the state, plans to set up 1,500 charging stations in Mumbai, 500 in Pune, 150 in Nagpur, 100 in Nashik, 75 in Au- rangabad, 30 in Amra- vati, and 20 in Solapur. Similarly, the Mumbai- Nagpur Samruddhi Highway, Mumbai- Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Nashik, and Nashik-Pune highways will be equipped with adequate EV charging facilities. The Union govern- ment has allowed any person or organization to start a public charg- ing station without any license to enable the electric charging eco- system and EV charg- ing stations can be set up near a bus station, train station, petrol pump or shopping mall. To this end, MSEDCL has been told to provide priority power supply if private individuals want to set up charging stations. The state has made a provision of Rs40 crore for charging infrastructure and also announced financial incentives to facilitate the setting up of pri- vate stations. It is well known that we have always be- lieved in connecting, not breaking. Accumulation of life force and its arrangement is possible only through yoga. Yoga is naturally re- lated to Pranayama. Pra- nayama awakens our in- ner energy and makes it healthy, balanced and ac- tive. It is said that yoga controls the tendencies of the mind. Its meaning is that yoga controls the in- stincts related to our mind and makes it conducive to a healthy life. Bhastrika, Kapal Bhati, Tribandha, Anulom Vilom, Bhra- mari, etc. are such easy yogas, which everyone can practice with little ef- fort. What he meant was that yoga should be kept away from professionalism. If we understand this, then we will be able to understand more closely our lifestyle related to yoga contained inIndianculture.Knowing the mind and adapting life accordingly ,thatisthereal yoga. Sharat K Verma New Delhi : The notifi- cation of Agneepath Scheme of Army Re- cruitment is about to be released and the re- cruitment process will start soon. In this, the appointment will be done in the recruitment rally as before. After the announcement of this scheme, within two days, the government changed the rule and increased the age limit of appointment from 21 to 23 years. This was done because the rein- statement in the army was closed for the last two years. Because of this, the age limit for the recruitment of lakhs of youth in the army had ended and ex- tending this by two years will give them a chance to be reinstated inthearmyasAgniveer. However, this will cre- ate a new problem. Increasing the age limit will greatly in- crease the number of youth participating in the recruitment rally. That is why it is being said that just as the cen- tral government has in- creased the age limit, in the same way, it can in- crease the number for the first year as well. According to the plan so far, a total of 46 thou- sand youth are to be re- cruited in the three ser- vices in the first year. This number is also very less as compared to the recruitment done every year. The last time when the recruitment process was carried out, 80 thousand youth were recruited. Even before that an average of 60 to 70 thousands youths were being recruited. Since the appointment has been closed for two years, a large number of youth have come un- der the age limit re- quired for appointment. Duetonon-appointment for two years, close to 1.5 lakh posts have become vacant. Therefore, if the government has given relaxation in the age limit in the first year, then the number can also increase slightly . He is in charge of me- dia, social media and all communication. There was talk earlier that Randeep Surjewa- la is in charge of Kar- nataka, where elec- tions are due next year, so the communication department could be taken over from him. Now the question is, will Jairam Ramesh re- tain or change the old team of Communica- tions Department? There is speculation about AICC secretary and co-in-charge of communication de- partment Pranav Jha, social media in-charge Rohan Gupta and me- dia department’s Vineet Punia. After Ramesh became the head of the communi- cation department, there is a general per- ception that the num- ber of people working in Hindi will be less and their importance will also decrease. In Randeep Surjewa- la’s team, the number of people who spoke, understood and worked in Hindi were more. Most of the people were from Hindi belt, but this situation will not remain with Ramesh. He is from Karnataka and has a team working with him in English. Secondly, they are lead- ers living in their ‘in- tellectual ego’, so they do not give preference to too many people. Thirdly, Ramesh is not too active on social me- dia. By the time he was appointed the head of the communications department, he had 1.5 lakh followers on Twit- ter and he used to fol- low only 18 people. In contrast, Surjewala had more than 17 lakh followers. That’s why many Congress leaders are believing that Jairam Ramesh him- self and the entire team will have to work hard- er and at the same time give preference to Eng- lish speaking along with Hindi speaking individuals. This is also necessary because al- most the entire media team of BJP is going to work in Hindi only . Under Jairam, will Cong’s ‘connect’ improve? EXCESSIVE HEAT WAVE IN INDIA COULD SPUR FOOD PRICES FURTHER New Delhi (Agen- cies): India’s food in- flation is likely to top 9 per cent on the back of high feedstock prices, according to a Nomura report. The report sees food inflation surging in the second half of the year in Asia with major food importers like Singa- pore bearing the brunt of higher prices of sta- ples. China’s harsh COV- ID measures along with swine fever in Thailand and an exces- sive heat wave in India are some of the rea- sons that could spur food prices further. “Consumers’ percep- tion of inflation is strongly influenced by the prices of frequent- ly purchased necessi- ties, such as food, and can lead to higher in- flation expectations,” Bloomberg quoted from the Nomura re- port. India’s food inflation was marginally be- low the 8 per cent mark in May com- pared to 8.3 per cent in April. “Locally, the onset of the summer heat wave has also con- tributed to the rise in food prices,” the finance minis- try’s monthly economic re- port said to- day . The finance ministry report expects the food prices and the head- line retail inflation to come down on the back of time- ly arrival of southwest monsoon. Food inflation has been driven by high vegetable pric- es as heat waves scorched perishables. “Retail food inflation has been higher than non-food and the differ- ence may be partly at- tributed to the onset of summer heat waves as retail vegetable in- flation, with a weight of 6 per cent in CPI bas- ket, increased to 18.26 per cent in May 2022,” the finance min- istry report added. Not just vegetables, even high edible oil prices have led to a higher food inflation. India imports nearly 60% of its edible oil and with supply dis- ruptions continuing due to the Russia- Ukraine war, the prices have surged. The Nomura report flags that rice could be- come dearer as coun- tries look for alterna- tive in the wake of wheat prices remain- ing elevated. To manage the do- mestic situation better, Centre had imposed a ban on wheat exports on May 13 to ensure stable prices and food security. Some relaxa- tions were given on May 17 allowing those wheat consortium al- ready registered with customs. Fin Min: Risk of stagflation low in India New Delhi (Agen- cies): Unlike the rest of the world, which is looking at a dis- tinct risk of wide- spread stagflation, India is at a lower risk owing to its pru- dent stabilization policies, the Finance Ministry said in its May Monthly Eco- nomic Review. But that said, like the global economy, which is expected to see slowing growth, India too is expected to witness slowing growth, the ministry said. Rising commod- ity prices and linger- ing supply chain bot- tlenecks in an envi- ronment where the global central banks are withdrawing pandemic-era meas- ures have led to a downgrade in global growth forecasts. While the Indian economy too is ex- pected to be impact- ed, the ministry sees it as being higher thantheotheremerg- ing market counter- parts. “Rationalizing of non-capex expend- iture has thus be- come critical for avoiding fiscal slip- page,” it said. Duty-related measures to slash steel exports by 40% New Delhi (PTI): In- dia’s steel exports is expected to come down by 40% to 12 million tonnes (MT) in the ongoing fiscal, as a result of the du- ty-related measures taken by the govern- ment last month, ac- cording to CRISIL. The export of fin- ished steel had reached a record high of 18.3 million tonnes in the 2021-22 financial year and the prices were at their all-time high, the agency said on Monday . “India’s steel ex- ports will drop 35-40% to 10-12 million tonnes this fiscal following the 15% export duty imposed on several finished steel prod- ucts last month. CRUCIAL READ Bharat-centric approach to farming needed: RSS chief First India Bureau Nagpur: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday highlighted the importance of organic and ancient methods of farming and said it would be wrong to reject such local knowledge as unscientific without examining them. He was speaking at the annual ‘Convoca- tion-cum-Scientific Convention’ jointly or- ganized by the Nation- al Academy of Veteri- nary Sciences (India), New Delhi and Maha- rashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences Uni- versity , Nagpur. Union Minister of Fisheries,AnimalHus- bandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala, who was the guest of honour, was bestowed honorary fellowship along with Bhagwat and state minister Sunil Kedar. India’s farming and animal husbandry methods are the oldest, Bhagwat said, adding that modern science has side effects but our ancientknowledgeand methods do not have side effects. “Focus must be on flexibility in research and the use of local knowledge. It is wrong to reject local knowl- edge by terming it un- scientific. You can re- ject it after examining it, you are free to reject it if it is not right,” he said at the event. Adding that the country was the num- beroneeconomyinthe world until 1700 AD, he said,“Wehadanagrar- ian economy at the time, and industry and commerce were also related to agriculture. We will need to have Bharat-centric ap- proach to achieve in- creasing GDP .” Rupala spoke on how to be independ- ent through the coop- erative sector as well as methods to save the soil. “We will have to come back to our old method of repairing soil through the dung of indigenous cows. I feel good days of the cow and the animal husbandrydepartment will return in the com- ing days, and these will play important roles in our economy and growth,” Rupala said. Even today, 65% of farmers cultivate small land holdings and mechanised farming is not very beneficial for them. Because of fertilizers, etc., (farmers) fall into debt and then commit suicide. They should be taught sustainable agriculture which they can understand. —Mohan Bhagwat, RSS chief ‘Wandering Mum streets at night when no curfew in place is not an offence’ First India Bureau Mumbai: Wandering a street late at night in a city like Mumbai when there is no night curfew is not an of- fence, a local court has said, while acquit- ting a 29-year-old man booked for sitting on a road under suspicious circumstances. The city police had registered a case against the man on June 13 and the Gir- gaon metropolitan magistrate’s court passed its order acquit- ting him on June 16. The magistrate said it was difficult for the court to hold that the accused was trying to hide his identity to com- mit an offence, based on the evidence. The police had claimed that the man, Sumit Kashyap, had tried to cover his face with a handkerchief while sitting on a road in south Mumbai. They had registered the case against him under Sec- tion 122 (b) of the Maha- rashtra Police Act. The section has pro- visions for booking a person found between sunrise and sunset for having his face covered or otherwise disguised with intent to commit an offence. Magistrate Nadeem Patel said, “The ac- cused was arrested in Mumbai at around 1.30 am. In a city like Mum- bai, 1.30 am is not too late. Anyone can stand on the road and there- fore, itcannotbetermed as hiding the identity with intent to commit an offence.” The court added, “Even if it is assumed that 1.30 am is too late, then also, wandering on the street is not an of- fence when there is no night curfew.” People are used to wearing masks for safety in the pandemic period. Though masks are not compulsory, there is an advisory to wear them. Some people use a handkerchief as a mask, and if the accused is using the handkerchief as a mask to cover his mouth, it does not mean that he is hiding his identity. —-Girgaon metropolitan court Worker falls to death at construction site First India Bureau Thane: The body of a 22-year-old labourer who fell to his death in Thane city was recov- ered after five hours, police said on Monday .
