Olaudah Equiano Essay
Olaudah Equiano
The slave trade, yet horrific in it's inhumanity, became an important aspect of the world's economy during the eighteenth century. During a time when
thousands of Africans were being traded for currency, Olaudah Equiano became one of countless children kidnapped and sold on theblack market as a
slave. Slavery existed centuries before the birth of Equiano (1745), but strengthened drastically due to an increasing demand for labor in the developing
western hemisphere, especially in the Caribbean and Carolinas. Through illogical justification, slave trading became a powerful facet of commerce,
regardless of its deliberate mistreatment of human beings by other human beings. Olaudah Equiano was able to overcome this intense...show more

Equiano's luck soon shifted when he was once again kidnapped and sold as a slave, this time he would have to endure the notoriously dreadful
journey across the sea to America. Knowing that this was a pivotal point in his life and that he would become a gudgeon to the harshness of slavery,
Equiano attempted to prepare himself for what lay ahead. However, the sight of the inhumane acts he witnessed on the African coast, while being
transported, were new to Equiano and instilled fear into his consciousness.
Equiano, on a slave ship towards the West Indies, was on the verge of everlasting bondage. "In this manner we continued to undergo more
hardships than I can now relate, hardships which are inseparable from this accursed trade. Many a time we were near suffocation from the want of
fresh air, which was often without for whole days together." (57) The conditions for slaves on these transport ships was horrendous, as those in
charge cared little for the well being of these Africans. Equiano was unaware of what was to come, and fear lingered in his memory of this
unforgiving experience. He explains the process of the transaction, "We were not many days in the merchant's custody, before we were sold after
their usual manner, which was: On a signal given (as the beat of a drum), the buyers rush at once into the yard where the slaves are confined, and
make choice of that parcel they like best." (58)

The Crucible-Theme- 5-Paragraph Essay
"Even the Good can be Twisted" "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." (
Dr. Seuss) "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." (Psalm 23:4) "God has given you one face, and you
make yourself another." (William Shakespeare) These quotes, found throughout many different time periods of history, all say the same: "Be who you
are and don't let anything change that." These are great words to live by, but, in time of weakness, does one stay true? Can even the good be twisted?
This is a theme that is represented throughout The Crucible many times. Characters such as Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor, and Reverend Hale had
good intentions...show more content...
It was a moot point though, because Elizabeth did the same thing for him, damning him to be tried for taking part in black magic. Only in the end
did John Proctor feel any forgiveness towards himself. In his mind, he deserved the punishment he was going to endure and wasn't going
condemn anyone else in the process. All in all, John was a noble man but, warped by temptation, was made a man of slander. Furthermore,
Reverend Hale was pushed to change also. Hale came into Salem a stranger, but knew how to fix the problem the town endured. He never
questioned that God had a plan and always thought that something was either good or bad, with no gray area in between. This thinking is
challenged when Elizabeth, a pure person, is accused and then later when John confesses. He knows that these people are honest and leaves the
court for a period of time. In the end, Hale is a desperate man, and even though knowing there is no witchcraft present, he urges John to admit that he
is not the one that should be punished. He has to question all the rules he has lived by his whole life and pursue something he knows is incorrect. In
essence, Reverend Hale is pushed to his limits and is turned into a man that will be permanently in suspicion of any standards he ever thought were
true. In the end, as a reader, one is challenged to think, if put in that situation, if he or she would falter from what is

My Day With My Best Friend
After a long stressful test, I was going to spend the day with my best friend, Katherine, for the first time after, so long now that her mom trusted me
more. "Honk!'' was the sound I heard that signaled me that Katherine's dad was here. She opened the door, as usual because she was so courteous
to me at school. I got into the rusty gray Honda. Once I got into the car I knew it was out of my comfort zone because it was my first time meeting
Katherine's Dad outside of school. "Hello, Katherine 's dad," I said tentatively. He responded back with a simple hello and simply resumed his
talk with Katherine as if she had never left the car. They were talking, so quick I had no idea what to do, so I kept quiet the whole car ride and
looked out the window. The whole car ride was of a foreign language I had barely heard Katherine speak at school, when her mom, my 5th grade
math teacher came around. Now as if she had been liberated from those chains that kept her from speaking her native language, she spoke endlessly
with her dad. We arrived at our destination and to my surprise, it was a church. I had never my life been to church on a Saturday afternoon, most likely
because my mom and I only had time to come to church on SundayВґs.So many things were happening at the same time in the same room where
Katherine's dad left us. There was a karate class happening right in front of us while some feet in front there were tables with roses, string, markers, all
scattered up.

Personal Narrative: My 5 Paragraph Essay
"Vaidehi, I have to tell you something," stated Pooja when we were in lunch. This may seem a trite phrase seen in many cliche books. What she
said next felt like a slap on the face. On that day, I didn't know my life would change and that I was going to lose one of my best friend, Pooja. I
was going to lose someone who meant so much to. Who supported me and helped me when I faced obstacles. Who entertained or made me laugh
when I was sad. It all started when Pooja and I met in fourth grade in Nelson Elementary during recess through one of my friend who turned out to be
her friend also. When we became friends, I thought we would be friends forever, however it didn't turn out to be that way. In the beginning of sixth
grade, her father was offered

Analysis Of Now We Are Five
Sedaris uses many different rhetorical strategies in his essay "Now We Are Five". In this article his purpose was to inform the audience about how
his life was affected by his sister's suicide. It discusses how his life was before her death and after her death. "Now We Are Five" is written with a
tone that is longing and serious to signify the effect her death had on Sedaris. Sedaris uses pathos, anecdotes, antithesis, and hyperboles to give this
essay voice.
On the third page of the article, Sedaris was talking about how Tiffany, his sister, would get into fights with everyone in hisfamily. He said, "One day
she'd throw a dish at you and the next she'd create a stunning mosaic made of the shards." He uses this antithesis to show how big...show more content...
"In the past, when my family rented a cottage my sisters and I would crowd the door like puppies around a food dish. Our father would unlock it
and we would tear through the house claiming rooms. I always picked the biggest one facing the ocean, and, just as I'd start to unpack, my parents
would enter and tell me that its was theirs. He and my mother would move in, and I would get booted to what was called 'the maids room.' It was
away on the ground level, a kind of dank shed next to where the car was parked. There was never an interior stairway leading to the upper floo.
Instead I had to take the outside steps and, more often than not, knock in the locked front door, like a beggar hoping to be invited in," this anecdote
shows reminiscing to the past when they went on family vacations all together. On page 6, the family about a beach house just like the one when they
were younger and talked about naming it. "'How about naming it Tiffany?' he (Sedaris' father) said. Our silence translated to: let's pretend we didn't
hear that." All of the brothers and sisters of Tiffany didn't think that naming the beach house Tiffany was a good idea because they thought that Tiffany
wouldn't have liked that. Tiffany pushed away from her family, and for her family to name something after her would make her upset because she
wouldn't liked to be remembered that way.
The whole family was affected differently by Tiffanyssuicide, but they all

Example Of Narrative Essay On 9/11
On September 11, 2001 more than 2,500 people were killed in a terrorist attack that took place in New York City when two planes were hijacked
and crashed into the North and South towers causing it to collapse. Although this event took place almost fifteen years ago, people still remember it
like it was yesterday, and it still affects many people's lives today. If all those who died in the accident were here today they'd be happy to see the
brand new tower one, building this tower meant honoring the fallen and responding to tragedy. Within the rebuilding process symbolism can be found
in two waterfalls, the curtain wall, and even in how tall it was. Two waterfalls were placed where the Twin Towers once laid. These waterfalls were

The Five Paragraph Analysis
For as long as I can remember, "the five paragraph" essay has been enforced by my teachers to be the blueprint of my essay writing in order to
achieve a successful and knowledgeable piece of work. All throughout my high school, Jr. high, and even elementary school career, I was expected to
follow this structure in order to receive my desired grade.
As I entered the college realm, the practice of "academic writing" made it known to me fairly quickly. In the article written by L. Lennie Irvin, the
author pertains to the difficulty of transferring from ordinary writing to college writing. "Writing is hard, and writing in college may resemble playing
a familiar game by completely new rules (that often are unstated)." To create "successful" work

Essay about High School Graduation Day
High School Graduation Day
Many people have experienced the over whelming excitement that you feel as you approach high school graduation day, and for me, that's a day
that I will never forget. The amount of emotions that you feel on graduation day is unbelievable, and I have yet to experience anything else like it. I
can remember feeling anxious to celebrate the big day with my friends and family, while at the same time I was panicking thinking about having to
walk across the stage in front of that many people. Then, the more I thought about the reality of graduation day, I started to get curious, but nervous,
about being able to start a new chapter in my life once graduation day had passed. There are several reasons why I, still...show more content...
As the end of the night approached us, I couldn't stop thinking about how many mixed emotions I had about starting a whole new chapter in my
life. I couldn't wait to go to college, meet all new people, get a degree so that I could start my career path, but I knew that meant I had to say goodbye
to my two best friends, who were moving several hours away from me. This was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do in my life. We all cried
a little, and then made promises to keep in touch, and then we were off into the real world! I was very happy to be at this point in my life, but I was
scared deep down inside.
When I look back on this day now, I still remember every detail as if it was yesterday. I was so proud, and happy to be able to celebrate such an
amazing day with all of my friends and family. I know I will never forget how embarrassed I was walking across the stage in front of all of those
people, feeling famous after taking so many pictures, making our final memories together at our graduation parties, and then being a nervous wreck
when it was time to go out into the world without my best friends at my side. High school graduation day was a very emotional day for me, but it was
by far the most exciting day I have ever experienced in my

Narrative Essay About My Family Vacation
I awoke to the sound of my alarm clock buzzing. It was 4:30 in the morning in two hours I will be getting on a plane to Florida. Today is June sixth,
2019 the day my family finally leaves for our family vacation we had all been waiting for, for months. Everyone is running around frantically trying to
pack all their stuff. Unlike the rest of my family, I had woken up an hour earlier and packed all my stuff already. "Mitch hurry up we're gonna miss our
flight!" Yelled Michelle, my mom.
I yelled back "I know, I'm right here don't yell!" I ran up the stairs and grabbed my brand new navy suitcase behind me, and ran outside and abruptly
threw it into the trunk. "Be careful Mitch," said Michael my dad. My mom ran upstairs to get a car seat for my four–year–old sister Michaela and
quickly set it up into the car. My family quickly got into the car and started to make our way to the airport. We drove for about twenty minutes until we
got stopped by a train.
We were already going to be ten minutes late and the train just started to go. "Mom, where's the puppy?" asked Michaela. My mom exclaimed, "Oh no
we forgot Micky!"
We had to turn around to go back home. "Mitch can you run in and get the dog quickly please?" my mom asked me. "Ok " I said. We parked in front of
the house and I walked to the door I opened the door. I yelled, "Micky come downstairs boy!" Mickey ran downstairs and out the door and jumped
right into the car. I walked outside and I got into the car and we drove straight to the airport. "Michael slow down! We're going to get a speeding
ticket," My mom said.
"No we're not, It's fine. We're going to miss our flight if I slow down," my dad replied. Five minutes later a police car drove by and pulled us over. An
old police officer stepped out of his car and asked my dad for his license and charged him with speeding.
"I told you." My mom said to my dad. My dad didn't reply and just drove in silence until we got to the airport.
"Mitch, you take the dog by the collar and I'll take your suitcase because we forgot to bring a leash." My mom said. I grabbed Mickey by his red
collar which was kind of tight around his neck and he quickly turned around and snapped at me. I lightly hit him in the face

My Biggest Mistake Essay
My Biggest Mistake I never knew when it started, this obsession. Didn't even realize how slowly and steadily what I thought I could control
controlled me. I am not like most people my likes, dislikes and feelings differ from most of the crowd. When did I become someone who cared so
much what other people think of me? Now that I think about it, it baffles me how I slowly and steadily from being an individual who preaches
about being different suddenly became someone who just wanted to fit in to other people's expectations. And suddenly I feel I woke up to realize
what kind of a slave I had become. Well to start up on my mistakes, my first one was ever thinking that I can be in a relationship with my best friend. I

And I would always go back with him. I wonder why? Was it my ego? The fact that I wanted to hurt him much more than he ever did? Or did I
actually like him so? Whatever the reason this continued till finally before the final week before my exam I broke it off swearing I cannot screw
up this too like my boards. But who knew I had already screwed this up to by constantly living in loathing and vengeance. I had to settle for the
second best and did not get the institution of my choice. I cried. Oh how I cried. How much I hated the fact that I will have to go to the place that I
never wanted to go to and had sworn I wouldn't. But I still got up dusted off and walked. But this stupid human tendency to want something which
is never good for you, it wasn't done with me. Oh no not yet it said and dragged me back. This institution still gave me that opportunity to grow.
But no I went and ruined it there too with not one but four people. And now I m left here looking at wreckage. Examining what went wrong and
now I realize it. It wasn't them it was me. I could have easily minded my own business. Stuck to my priorities but I instead signed the sheet to my
own ruin. I guess it was my fault. I have suddenly woken up as a much wiser person. Also the question how do I keep getting dragged into such
stuff? I am really young for this. I do not want get into this and now I put my foot down. I absolutely refuse to go down this path again. I swear my

Personal Narrative about Skiing Essay
The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no protection against the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out
toward the horizon, I saw nothing but tree tops, and some snow capped mountain tops in the distance. With my feet bound to freshly waxed skis, the
only thing stronger than my ski poles was my determination to get down the mountain.
I turned to my right, only to see the immediate drop off of the ski slope. As I crept up a little closer to the edge, I noticed an incline that before now
was only known to me through pictures of cliff diving, or an exaggerated road runner and coyote cartoon.
With a deep breath of that icy cold air that seemed endless at the time, I pushed myself off the...show more content...
Now, a little bit of pressure onto my right leg, and I'm back on my original course. I see a tree that was once in the far off distance, now rapidly
approaching with speed of an oncoming train. With a look of confusion that I can only describe as the look of a deer in the headlights, I twisted my
body to the right in hopes to avoid the oncoming danger, that devil dressed in the needles of a blue spruce.
As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed true to the course, including the ski poles. I ran over the handle
of my ski pole, with my stomach. The pole was pushed up into my lower abdomen, propelling me off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I landed
on my back, completely out breath, and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where I was. The next moment was particularly scary for me, all
I can recall was the ringing of a whistle in my ear, and the red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any injuries, the ski patrol
had braced my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me down the mountain.
I spent the next three hours in the lodge under the watchful eye of a very pleasant paramedic, who prescribed me the perfect blend of warm blankets
and hot chocolate. The throbbing pains finally ceased, and I was able to stand up under my own power. I slowly staggered out the door, eternally
grateful to the paramedics and ski patrol that came to my

The Story of My Life Essay
This explains the beginning of my life all the way to the end of my life. My life from the beginning was very fun as I grew up living with my

hyper and wouldn't stop moving around the place. I always was annoying back then and never seemed to get my homework done at school. I was
born at Kaiser Hospital during the year 1996. The first place I lived was on the street Via Harriet and was right next to a train. It was always noisy
when the train passed by because it shook the house and scared all the animals. It wasn't the best place to live, but we eventually moved to the hills, I

East Bay University. I don't exactly know the requirements of classes to get into Cal State, but as long as I get my AA degree I should be fine. I
am focused on technology and computers; I like to choose classes that can be similar to wiring or soldering. I am not that sure if I would be more
focused on computers or wiring, I think an Internship might help me out. My career would be Technician or Electrician because I'm focused on
electricity and wanting to discover what would happen without getting electrocuted. I'm still unsure if I just want to work on physical components
on the computer. I used to work on computers a lot, but it got boring and I can't do it as great now. Soldering is interesting for me because I get to
repair broken wires, being able to strip a wire. When striping a wire, you get to know how the wire is connected. I think a life event for me is to
grab my master's degree, which is what I'm focused on. That's like the best degree to get, but it's really difficult to receive. I wouldn't like going to
years and years of education, but it's totally worth it. Getting a higher degree affects the amount

To Kill a Mockingbird: Five Paragraph Essay
Imagine a place where the verdict of a rape trial stems from racial prejudice rather than the proper evaluation of proven evidence. This is Maycomb,
Alabama, the strange, Southern town where Scout and Jem Finch grow up during the 1930s in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In
short, the novel travels a thin line between a light–hearted narrative of the siblings' childhood with their single father, a defense attorney named Atticus
Finch, and the injustices that arise within their close–knit community. The complexities include extreme racism, a peculiar social hierarchy, and general
misunderstandings of certain people within the small town. These are all seen as "Maycomb ways", almost as if they are considered facts. Through her
writing, Lee conveys an important message that an essential part of a child's education often takes place in a home or community rather than a
classroom by utilizing the characters, Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape whom Atticus is defending. Throughout the work,
Lee uses Atticus, the children 's' father, as a device to communicate the message that children often learn the most important lessons outside of school.
This becomes particularly evident in Chapter Three when Atticus makes a special deal with Scout after her teacher, Miss Caroline, tells her that she is
not allowed to read with him at home

My Portfolio As A Writer
Portfolio
Dear reader, this portfolio will take you on a journey into how I have progressed as a writer. Everyone's writing history is unique, only the author
understands how it influences their work. Some of my first encounters with writing were in middle school, when I learned how to string together a five
paragraph essay over a book selected by my teacher. Format and content was more important than expressing my opinion, and I became used to
inserting facts and tying them together; I didn't realize that this was my writing style until my history teacher announced it to the class one day during
my freshman year in high school. This teacher was known for challenging essay prompts, and apparently mine were always put together seamlessly.
I had only jotted down facts from my textbook, yet this moment of praise from my teacher (whom I thought had hated me) made me inspect my
writing closer than ever. I started to think that maybe writing was my gift, and that I just naturally excelled at it. As a junior in high school, I entered
a writing workshop and always scored a 97 or above on any paper; except, despite the success, I still had not discovered my own voice. All the writing
I had ever done was aimed towards formatting and facts rather than my own thoughts. It wasn't until this year at Truman that I was introduced to the
writer inside me. I have finally learned how to integrate my own voice into my writing while still managing to implement facts and information.
The first

I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took

Essay on Personal Narrative: A Valuable Lesson
Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school... right? Well I had to go

as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up
blood. My father usually doesn't make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn't feel good. When dad

tests, the doctors found three blood clots in my father's body. Dad had a clot in both of his lungs, and one in his leg. The worst was yet to come. The
doctors were not pleased with his blood results. He had a very low white blood cell count, and his platelet levels were low as well. They needed to find
the cause. One doctor had an idea. The doctors did what is called a bone marrow extract, this is when they drill a needle into your hip, through the

difficult. My mother ended up changing her hours at work so she could visit my father in the hospital. On the weekends my mom would spend from
Friday when she got home from work, to Sunday night in the hospital. I have an older brother and a younger brother; they are lazy most of the time,
so the only help I got was from my grandmother. Unfortunately, my older brother wasn't present for three weeks for certain reasons, which left my ten

I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready

I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed
jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all the

Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is
something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust,
manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of.
There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were
alphabetically permitted to choose a horse, and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly. She
was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw
the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he had a
striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and proclaimed his name as Cashmere.
As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying.
As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him.

Olaudah Equiano Essay

  • 1. Olaudah Equiano Essay Olaudah Equiano The slave trade, yet horrific in it's inhumanity, became an important aspect of the world's economy during the eighteenth century. During a time when thousands of Africans were being traded for currency, Olaudah Equiano became one of countless children kidnapped and sold on theblack market as a slave. Slavery existed centuries before the birth of Equiano (1745), but strengthened drastically due to an increasing demand for labor in the developing western hemisphere, especially in the Caribbean and Carolinas. Through illogical justification, slave trading became a powerful facet of commerce, regardless of its deliberate mistreatment of human beings by other human beings. Olaudah Equiano was able to overcome this intense...show more content... Equiano's luck soon shifted when he was once again kidnapped and sold as a slave, this time he would have to endure the notoriously dreadful journey across the sea to America. Knowing that this was a pivotal point in his life and that he would become a gudgeon to the harshness of slavery, Equiano attempted to prepare himself for what lay ahead. However, the sight of the inhumane acts he witnessed on the African coast, while being transported, were new to Equiano and instilled fear into his consciousness. Equiano, on a slave ship towards the West Indies, was on the verge of everlasting bondage. "In this manner we continued to undergo more hardships than I can now relate, hardships which are inseparable from this accursed trade. Many a time we were near suffocation from the want of fresh air, which was often without for whole days together." (57) The conditions for slaves on these transport ships was horrendous, as those in charge cared little for the well being of these Africans. Equiano was unaware of what was to come, and fear lingered in his memory of this unforgiving experience. He explains the process of the transaction, "We were not many days in the merchant's custody, before we were sold after their usual manner, which was: On a signal given (as the beat of a drum), the buyers rush at once into the yard where the slaves are confined, and make choice of that parcel they like best." • 2. The Crucible-Theme- 5-Paragraph Essay "Even the Good can be Twisted" "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ( Dr. Seuss) "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil." (Psalm 23:4) "God has given you one face, and you make yourself another." (William Shakespeare) These quotes, found throughout many different time periods of history, all say the same: "Be who you are and don't let anything change that." These are great words to live by, but, in time of weakness, does one stay true? Can even the good be twisted? This is a theme that is represented throughout The Crucible many times. Characters such as Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor, and Reverend Hale had good intentions...show more content... It was a moot point though, because Elizabeth did the same thing for him, damning him to be tried for taking part in black magic. Only in the end did John Proctor feel any forgiveness towards himself. In his mind, he deserved the punishment he was going to endure and wasn't going condemn anyone else in the process. All in all, John was a noble man but, warped by temptation, was made a man of slander. Furthermore, Reverend Hale was pushed to change also. Hale came into Salem a stranger, but knew how to fix the problem the town endured. He never questioned that God had a plan and always thought that something was either good or bad, with no gray area in between. This thinking is challenged when Elizabeth, a pure person, is accused and then later when John confesses. He knows that these people are honest and leaves the court for a period of time. In the end, Hale is a desperate man, and even though knowing there is no witchcraft present, he urges John to admit that he is not the one that should be punished. He has to question all the rules he has lived by his whole life and pursue something he knows is incorrect. In essence, Reverend Hale is pushed to his limits and is turned into a man that will be permanently in suspicion of any standards he ever thought were true. In the end, as a reader, one is challenged to think, if put in that situation, if he or she would falter from what is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Day With My Best Friend After a long stressful test, I was going to spend the day with my best friend, Katherine, for the first time after, so long now that her mom trusted me more. "Honk!'' was the sound I heard that signaled me that Katherine's dad was here. She opened the door, as usual because she was so courteous to me at school. I got into the rusty gray Honda. Once I got into the car I knew it was out of my comfort zone because it was my first time meeting Katherine's Dad outside of school. "Hello, Katherine 's dad," I said tentatively. He responded back with a simple hello and simply resumed his talk with Katherine as if she had never left the car. They were talking, so quick I had no idea what to do, so I kept quiet the whole car ride and looked out the window. The whole car ride was of a foreign language I had barely heard Katherine speak at school, when her mom, my 5th grade math teacher came around. Now as if she had been liberated from those chains that kept her from speaking her native language, she spoke endlessly with her dad. We arrived at our destination and to my surprise, it was a church. I had never my life been to church on a Saturday afternoon, most likely because my mom and I only had time to come to church on SundayВґs.So many things were happening at the same time in the same room where Katherine's dad left us. There was a karate class happening right in front of us while some feet in front there were tables with roses, string, markers, all scattered up. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Personal Narrative: My 5 Paragraph Essay "Vaidehi, I have to tell you something," stated Pooja when we were in lunch. This may seem a trite phrase seen in many cliche books. What she said next felt like a slap on the face. On that day, I didn't know my life would change and that I was going to lose one of my best friend, Pooja. I was going to lose someone who meant so much to. Who supported me and helped me when I faced obstacles. Who entertained or made me laugh when I was sad. It all started when Pooja and I met in fourth grade in Nelson Elementary during recess through one of my friend who turned out to be her friend also. When we became friends, I thought we would be friends forever, however it didn't turn out to be that way. In the beginning of sixth grade, her father was offered Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Analysis Of Now We Are Five Sedaris uses many different rhetorical strategies in his essay "Now We Are Five". In this article his purpose was to inform the audience about how his life was affected by his sister's suicide. It discusses how his life was before her death and after her death. "Now We Are Five" is written with a tone that is longing and serious to signify the effect her death had on Sedaris. Sedaris uses pathos, anecdotes, antithesis, and hyperboles to give this essay voice. On the third page of the article, Sedaris was talking about how Tiffany, his sister, would get into fights with everyone in hisfamily. He said, "One day she'd throw a dish at you and the next she'd create a stunning mosaic made of the shards." He uses this antithesis to show how big...show more content... "In the past, when my family rented a cottage my sisters and I would crowd the door like puppies around a food dish. Our father would unlock it and we would tear through the house claiming rooms. I always picked the biggest one facing the ocean, and, just as I'd start to unpack, my parents would enter and tell me that its was theirs. He and my mother would move in, and I would get booted to what was called 'the maids room.' It was away on the ground level, a kind of dank shed next to where the car was parked. There was never an interior stairway leading to the upper floo. Instead I had to take the outside steps and, more often than not, knock in the locked front door, like a beggar hoping to be invited in," this anecdote shows reminiscing to the past when they went on family vacations all together. On page 6, the family about a beach house just like the one when they were younger and talked about naming it. "'How about naming it Tiffany?' he (Sedaris' father) said. Our silence translated to: let's pretend we didn't hear that." All of the brothers and sisters of Tiffany didn't think that naming the beach house Tiffany was a good idea because they thought that Tiffany wouldn't have liked that. Tiffany pushed away from her family, and for her family to name something after her would make her upset because she wouldn't liked to be remembered that way. The whole family was affected differently by Tiffanyssuicide, but they all Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Example Of Narrative Essay On 9/11 On September 11, 2001 more than 2,500 people were killed in a terrorist attack that took place in New York City when two planes were hijacked and crashed into the North and South towers causing it to collapse. Although this event took place almost fifteen years ago, people still remember it like it was yesterday, and it still affects many people's lives today. If all those who died in the accident were here today they'd be happy to see the brand new tower one, building this tower meant honoring the fallen and responding to tragedy. Within the rebuilding process symbolism can be found in two waterfalls, the curtain wall, and even in how tall it was. Two waterfalls were placed where the Twin Towers once laid. These waterfalls were places here Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The Five Paragraph Analysis For as long as I can remember, "the five paragraph" essay has been enforced by my teachers to be the blueprint of my essay writing in order to achieve a successful and knowledgeable piece of work. All throughout my high school, Jr. high, and even elementary school career, I was expected to follow this structure in order to receive my desired grade. As I entered the college realm, the practice of "academic writing" made it known to me fairly quickly. In the article written by L. Lennie Irvin, the author pertains to the difficulty of transferring from ordinary writing to college writing. "Writing is hard, and writing in college may resemble playing a familiar game by completely new rules (that often are unstated)." To create "successful" work Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay about High School Graduation Day High School Graduation Day Many people have experienced the over whelming excitement that you feel as you approach high school graduation day, and for me, that's a day that I will never forget. The amount of emotions that you feel on graduation day is unbelievable, and I have yet to experience anything else like it. I can remember feeling anxious to celebrate the big day with my friends and family, while at the same time I was panicking thinking about having to walk across the stage in front of that many people. Then, the more I thought about the reality of graduation day, I started to get curious, but nervous, about being able to start a new chapter in my life once graduation day had passed. There are several reasons why I, still...show more content... As the end of the night approached us, I couldn't stop thinking about how many mixed emotions I had about starting a whole new chapter in my life. I couldn't wait to go to college, meet all new people, get a degree so that I could start my career path, but I knew that meant I had to say goodbye to my two best friends, who were moving several hours away from me. This was one of the hardest things I had ever had to do in my life. We all cried a little, and then made promises to keep in touch, and then we were off into the real world! I was very happy to be at this point in my life, but I was scared deep down inside. When I look back on this day now, I still remember every detail as if it was yesterday. I was so proud, and happy to be able to celebrate such an amazing day with all of my friends and family. I know I will never forget how embarrassed I was walking across the stage in front of all of those people, feeling famous after taking so many pictures, making our final memories together at our graduation parties, and then being a nervous wreck when it was time to go out into the world without my best friends at my side. High school graduation day was a very emotional day for me, but it was by far the most exciting day I have ever experienced in my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Narrative Essay About My Family Vacation I awoke to the sound of my alarm clock buzzing. It was 4:30 in the morning in two hours I will be getting on a plane to Florida. Today is June sixth, 2019 the day my family finally leaves for our family vacation we had all been waiting for, for months. Everyone is running around frantically trying to pack all their stuff. Unlike the rest of my family, I had woken up an hour earlier and packed all my stuff already. "Mitch hurry up we're gonna miss our flight!" Yelled Michelle, my mom. I yelled back "I know, I'm right here don't yell!" I ran up the stairs and grabbed my brand new navy suitcase behind me, and ran outside and abruptly threw it into the trunk. "Be careful Mitch," said Michael my dad. My mom ran upstairs to get a car seat for my four–year–old sister Michaela and quickly set it up into the car. My family quickly got into the car and started to make our way to the airport. We drove for about twenty minutes until we got stopped by a train. We were already going to be ten minutes late and the train just started to go. "Mom, where's the puppy?" asked Michaela. My mom exclaimed, "Oh no we forgot Micky!" We had to turn around to go back home. "Mitch can you run in and get the dog quickly please?" my mom asked me. "Ok " I said. We parked in front of the house and I walked to the door I opened the door. I yelled, "Micky come downstairs boy!" Mickey ran downstairs and out the door and jumped right into the car. I walked outside and I got into the car and we drove straight to the airport. "Michael slow down! We're going to get a speeding ticket," My mom said. "No we're not, It's fine. We're going to miss our flight if I slow down," my dad replied. Five minutes later a police car drove by and pulled us over. An old police officer stepped out of his car and asked my dad for his license and charged him with speeding. "I told you." My mom said to my dad. My dad didn't reply and just drove in silence until we got to the airport. "Mitch, you take the dog by the collar and I'll take your suitcase because we forgot to bring a leash." My mom said. I grabbed Mickey by his red collar which was kind of tight around his neck and he quickly turned around and snapped at me. I lightly hit him in the face Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. My Biggest Mistake Essay My Biggest Mistake I never knew when it started, this obsession. Didn't even realize how slowly and steadily what I thought I could control controlled me. I am not like most people my likes, dislikes and feelings differ from most of the crowd. When did I become someone who cared so much what other people think of me? Now that I think about it, it baffles me how I slowly and steadily from being an individual who preaches about being different suddenly became someone who just wanted to fit in to other people's expectations. And suddenly I feel I woke up to realize what kind of a slave I had become. Well to start up on my mistakes, my first one was ever thinking that I can be in a relationship with my best friend. I screwed that up pretty...show more content... And I would always go back with him. I wonder why? Was it my ego? The fact that I wanted to hurt him much more than he ever did? Or did I actually like him so? Whatever the reason this continued till finally before the final week before my exam I broke it off swearing I cannot screw up this too like my boards. But who knew I had already screwed this up to by constantly living in loathing and vengeance. I had to settle for the second best and did not get the institution of my choice. I cried. Oh how I cried. How much I hated the fact that I will have to go to the place that I never wanted to go to and had sworn I wouldn't. But I still got up dusted off and walked. But this stupid human tendency to want something which is never good for you, it wasn't done with me. Oh no not yet it said and dragged me back. This institution still gave me that opportunity to grow. But no I went and ruined it there too with not one but four people. And now I m left here looking at wreckage. Examining what went wrong and now I realize it. It wasn't them it was me. I could have easily minded my own business. Stuck to my priorities but I instead signed the sheet to my own ruin. I guess it was my fault. I have suddenly woken up as a much wiser person. Also the question how do I keep getting dragged into such stuff? I am really young for this. I do not want get into this and now I put my foot down. I absolutely refuse to go down this path again. I swear my priorities from this moment forth is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Personal Narrative about Skiing Essay The coat of armor I adorned, made of down feathers and a nylon shell, yielded no protection against the daggers of that cold winter air. As I peered out toward the horizon, I saw nothing but tree tops, and some snow capped mountain tops in the distance. With my feet bound to freshly waxed skis, the only thing stronger than my ski poles was my determination to get down the mountain. I turned to my right, only to see the immediate drop off of the ski slope. As I crept up a little closer to the edge, I noticed an incline that before now was only known to me through pictures of cliff diving, or an exaggerated road runner and coyote cartoon. With a look of confusion that I can only describe as the look of a deer in the headlights, I twisted my body to the right in hopes to avoid the oncoming danger, that devil dressed in the needles of a blue spruce. As my upper body shifted to the right, everything from my waist and below stayed true to the course, including the ski poles. I ran over the handle of my ski pole, with my stomach. The pole was pushed up into my lower abdomen, propelling me off of the slope entirely, I was airborne. I landed on my back, completely out breath, and dazed to the point I had no recollection of where I was. The next moment was particularly scary for me, all I can recall was the ringing of a whistle in my ear, and the red lights flashing from the ski patrols snowmobiles. Unsure of any injuries, the ski patrol had braced my back and neck, strapped me to a board, and began to tow me down the mountain. I spent the next three hours in the lodge under the watchful eye of a very pleasant paramedic, who prescribed me the perfect blend of warm blankets and hot chocolate. The throbbing pains finally ceased, and I was able to stand up under my own power. I slowly staggered out the door, eternally grateful to the paramedics and ski patrol that came to my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. The Story of My Life Essay This explains the beginning of my life all the way to the end of my life. My life from the beginning was very fun as I grew up living with my mom's friend and my friend. But there were a lot of fights and I was very hyper back then. I have ADHD so back then when I was little; I was very hyper and wouldn't stop moving around the place. I always was annoying back then and never seemed to get my homework done at school. I was born at Kaiser Hospital during the year 1996. The first place I lived was on the street Via Harriet and was right next to a train. It was always noisy when the train passed by because it shook the house and scared all the animals. It wasn't the best place to live, but we eventually moved to the hills, I don't remember...show more content... Overall I know that I'm going to graduate because I'm pushing hard and all I need to finish is my Cyber High and keep up my grades and I will graduate. I want to go to Chabot College because it's the closest place to go to. I am planning to get my associates degree then transfer to Cal State East Bay University. I don't exactly know the requirements of classes to get into Cal State, but as long as I get my AA degree I should be fine. I am focused on technology and computers; I like to choose classes that can be similar to wiring or soldering. I am not that sure if I would be more focused on computers or wiring, I think an Internship might help me out. My career would be Technician or Electrician because I'm focused on electricity and wanting to discover what would happen without getting electrocuted. I'm still unsure if I just want to work on physical components on the computer. I used to work on computers a lot, but it got boring and I can't do it as great now. Soldering is interesting for me because I get to repair broken wires, being able to strip a wire. When striping a wire, you get to know how the wire is connected. I think a life event for me is to grab my master's degree, which is what I'm focused on. That's like the best degree to get, but it's really difficult to receive. I wouldn't like going to years and years of education, but it's totally worth it. Getting a higher degree affects the amount Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Kill A Mockingbird : Five Paragraph Analysis Anna Anderson Zeroski English 9 Honors, Period 3 9 November 2015 To Kill a Mockingbird: Five Paragraph Essay Imagine a place where the verdict of a rape trial stems from racial prejudice rather than the proper evaluation of proven evidence. This is Maycomb, Alabama, the strange, Southern town where Scout and Jem Finch grow up during the 1930s in the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In short, the novel travels a thin line between a light–hearted narrative of the siblings' childhood with their single father, a defense attorney named Atticus Finch, and the injustices that arise within their close–knit community. The complexities include extreme racism, a peculiar social hierarchy, and general misunderstandings of certain people within the small town. These are all seen as "Maycomb ways", almost as if they are considered facts. Through her writing, Lee conveys an important message that an essential part of a child's education often takes place in a home or community rather than a classroom by utilizing the characters, Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape whom Atticus is defending. Throughout the work, Lee uses Atticus, the children 's' father, as a device to communicate the message that children often learn the most important lessons outside of school. This becomes particularly evident in Chapter Three when Atticus makes a special deal with Scout after her teacher, Miss Caroline, tells her that she is not allowed to read with him at home Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Portfolio As A Writer Portfolio Dear reader, this portfolio will take you on a journey into how I have progressed as a writer. Everyone's writing history is unique, only the author understands how it influences their work. Some of my first encounters with writing were in middle school, when I learned how to string together a five paragraph essay over a book selected by my teacher. Format and content was more important than expressing my opinion, and I became used to inserting facts and tying them together; I didn't realize that this was my writing style until my history teacher announced it to the class one day during my freshman year in high school. This teacher was known for challenging essay prompts, and apparently mine were always put together seamlessly. I had only jotted down facts from my textbook, yet this moment of praise from my teacher (whom I thought had hated me) made me inspect my writing closer than ever. I started to think that maybe writing was my gift, and that I just naturally excelled at it. As a junior in high school, I entered a writing workshop and always scored a 97 or above on any paper; except, despite the success, I still had not discovered my own voice. All the writing I had ever done was aimed towards formatting and facts rather than my own thoughts. It wasn't until this year at Truman that I was introduced to the writer inside me. I have finally learned how to integrate my own voice into my writing while still managing to implement facts and information. The first Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Personal Narrative My Life Essay Personal Narrative My Life I never really thought about where my life was going. I always believed life took me where I wanted to go, I never thought that I was the one who took myself were I wanted to go. Once I entered high school I changed the way I thought. This is why I chose to go to college. I believe that college will give me the keys to unlock the doors of life. This way I can choose for myself where I go instead of someone choosing for me. I have chosen to go to the local community college to get used to the college experience. College life can be an exciting time but at the same time it can be a challenge. I want to be a positive influence in the lives of children. I want to be able to stand up and show the children that it is okay to be yourself and stand up for what you believe in. I am a well round student. For nine years I was actively involved in a girls organization. This experience taught me many things. We were actively involved in community service activities, for which I received the Silver Award. ( The second highest award in the organization.) I learned about the value of friendship and patients with others. This organization first introduced me to my future career. I was also involved for three and a half years in a student government club on campus. In this club I learned many life lessons. One of which was the value of hard work. I was one of the few people that organized the Junior/Senior Prom of 2000. My responsibilities included planning corranation, buying and organizing decorations, planning the busing schedule, booking the photographers, fundraising, ect. This taught me about hard work. But the best part of it was going to Prom knowing I was one of the only reasons that it happened. As far as school goes, my schedule is very diverse. I am taking child development lab, which is a class where students from my high school can go to the local elementary schools and work one on one with the students. I have work in the elementary school for two and a half years. I Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Essay on Personal Narrative: A Valuable Lesson Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school... right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn't make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn't feel good. When dad finally went to the doctors, they told him it was a virus of some sort. My parents really didn't go into detail about the visit. My father then went...show more content... It turned out to be the wrong specialist. My grandmother told one of her friends (who happened to be a nurse), and she suggested my dad go to pulmonary specialist. So, my father reluctantly scheduled an appointment at Ellis Hospital. Thank god he did. After a few scans and a few blood tests, the doctors found three blood clots in my father's body. Dad had a clot in both of his lungs, and one in his leg. The worst was yet to come. The doctors were not pleased with his blood results. He had a very low white blood cell count, and his platelet levels were low as well. They needed to find the cause. One doctor had an idea. The doctors did what is called a bone marrow extract, this is when they drill a needle into your hip, through the bone, and take out bone marrow. The results were not something I wanted to hear. I was at my grandmother's house at the time when my father called. The doctors found cancer, Acute Leukemia, and it was traveling through my father's entire blood stream. The weeks that followed were very difficult. My mother ended up changing her hours at work so she could visit my father in the hospital. On the weekends my mom would spend from Friday when she got home from work, to Sunday night in the hospital. I have an older brother and a younger brother; they are lazy most of the time, so the only help I got was from my grandmother. Unfortunately, my older brother wasn't present for three weeks for certain reasons, which left my ten year old Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Narrative: a Memorable Event. Essay Narrative: A memorable event. I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''. I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all the equestrian magazines had – A gilet. Mine was a pink Abercrombie & Fitch one, with ribbed salmon trims around the waistband and collar; it was not a real equestrian gilet,...show more content... Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust, manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of. There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse, and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly. She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. Cashmere was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
