■ There is three types of plague:
Bubonic, Septicemic and
Pneumonic Plague
■ Symptoms caused by Plague
include fever, weakness and
headache
■ In the bubonic form there is
also swelling of lymph nodes,
while in the septicemic form
tissues may turn black and die,
and in the pneumonic form
shortness of breath, cough and
chest pain may occur.

5. Plague doctros:
■ A plague doctor was a medical
physician who treated victims of
the bubonic plague
■ They treated everyone: both
wealthy and poor
■ The protective suit consisted of a
light, waxed fabric overcoat, a
mask with glass eye openings and
a beak shaped nose, typically
stuffed with herbs, straw, and
spices.
■ Plague doctors would also carry a
cane to examine patients without
the need of making a direct
contact with them

■ If diagnosed in time, the various forms of
plague are usually highly responsive to
antibiotic therapy
■ The plague bacterium could develop drug-
resistance and again become a major health
threat.
■ One case of a drug-resistant form of the
bacterium was found in Madagascar in 1995.
