6. The lightness or darkness of a color is called its value.
• Tints are light values that are made by mixing a color with white. For
example, pink is a tint of red (red and white), and gray is a tint of black
(black and white). Tones are created by mixing with a shade of gray
and possibly just muting the color, but not changing the value.
• Shades are dark values that are made by mixing a color with black.
Maroon is a shade of red, and navy is a shade of blue.
10. What is it? Contrast happens when two elements on a page are different. For example
it happens when two opposing colors are used in a design between the text and the
background or in the size and style of type. Our eyes like contrast.

different. But what does contrast really do?
