3. PARTITION COEFFICIENT………
Definition:-
The partition coefficient is defined as the ratio of
unionized drug distributed between organic phase
and aqueous phase at equilibrium.
Partition coefficient (P)= Xo

Where ,
Xo= fraction of drug in organic
Xw = fraction of drug in aqueous phase.
4. PARTITION COEFFICIENT………
Measurement of Partition coefficient….
For the measurement of partition coefficient , we
take two solvents in equal quantity which are
immiscible with each other.
Now we dissolve the sample drug into
the solvents and determine the amount
of dissolved drug in both phase(aqueous
& non- aqueous).
5. PARTITION COEFFICIENT………
Method of measurement…..
Separation method :-
In this method we take a
Separating funnel, in which we fill
50 ml. oil and 50 ml. water.
Now transfer the sample drug
Into the funnel and dissolve drug by
shaking process.
When drug is dissolved completely , open the
stopper which is below and separate both of the
solvent in different flask.
6. PARTITION COEFFICIENT………
Now we can determine the concentration of
dissolved drug in both of the solvent by various
laboratory method( e.g:- U.V spectroscopy).
