3. What are QR Code Scams?
● The QR code scam occurs when people are tricked into scanning a
QR code to receive money, but they do not receive anything, and
funds are deducted from their account.
● As per a discussion with Faisal Abidi, he suggested the goal of QR
code fraud is almost always the same: to direct you to a page
where cybercriminals can steal your data, money, or both.

5. QR Code Phishing Scam
Scammers might send you an email, flyer, letter, or message on social media
containing a QR code. Scanning it will lead you to a page that prompts you to fill
in your data or login credentials. The requested data might include sensitive
information, like your online banking details. Often “phishing QR codes” lead to
fake websites belonging to large and trustworthy organizations. Like regular
phishers, QR code phishers often pose as employees of big and essential
corporations, such as banks and other financial institutions.
6. Face to face QR scam
Face-to-face scams involve someone approaching you in person with a clever
story about why you need to scan a QR code. Criminals may approach victims
and request assistance in paying for a parking space. According to Faisal Abidi,
the fraudster can transfer money to their bank account by scanning a code, and
the criminals usually promise to return the money in cash.
7. Online Marketplace Method
QR-scammers may approach you on online marketplaces as well. They may
claim they want to buy the goods you're selling and request that you scan a QR
code to ensure that the funds are transferred to the correct bank account. In
reality, you're giving cyber criminals access to your bank account.
8. Faisal Abidi’s
viewpoints to
evade QR code
scams
● Never give out your QR code or bank
account information to strangers.
● Deal in cash if possible in a similar
situation.
● Never scan a QR code that someone
sends you.
● Remember that QR codes are typically
used to send money rather than
receive it.
● Never give out your OTP to anyone.
OTPs are private numbers that should
be treated as such.
