2. Holy Trinity
The temple was founded by
the old mayor of Piraeus ,
Kyriakos Serfiotis in 1839. On
11 January 1944, Piraeus was
bombed by the airplanes of
the allies and the Temple of
the Holy Trinity, which was
destroyed. On the 17th of
June 1956 the foundations of
the new temple were made by
Archbishop of Athens ,
Dorotheos.
3. St. Nikolas
The church of St.
Nikolas was built in
1839 and it’s the
biggest church in
Piraeus. St. Nikolaos
is the sailor’s patron
and that’s why the
temple is next to the
port.
4. St. Spiridon,
Protector Saint of Piraeus
The church of St. Spyridon
the Governor was built in
1868-75 by the mayor ,
Moutsopoulos. The reason
that St. Spyridon became
Protector Saint of Piraeus
is that the only building
existed for several
centuries in the deserted
Piraeus was the monastery
of St Spyridon at the same
area .
5. Prophet Ilias church
Prophet Ilias church ,
was built in 1948 and was
destroyed on February
24, 1981 by the Alkyon
Islands earthquake. It
was rebuilt on April 5,
1981.It was dedicated to
three Saints (Prophet
Ilias, Saint Georgios and
Saint Eleftherios). Today
the church has kept only
the name of the first
Saint .
