Definition of Critical Thinking ● Reason Effectively ● Use Systems Thinking ● Make Judgments and Decisions ● Solve Problems The Importance of Critical Thinking Teaching critical thinking and problem solving effectively in the classroom is vital for students. Learning critical thinking leads students to develop other skills, such as a higher level of concentration, deeper analytical abilities, and improved thought processing.
Definition of Communication ● Communicate Clearly ○ Listen effectively to decipher meaning ○ Use communication for a range of purposes ○ Use multiple media and technologies ○ Communicate effectively in diverse environments The Importance of Communication Linguistically and culturally effective communication is essential to contribute successfully to these teams.
Definition of Collaboration ● Collaborate with Others ○ Assume shared responsibility for collaborative work, and value the individual contributions made by each team member The Importance of Collaboration As a result of students working collaboratively, the group can generate more knowledge, making collaboration a key ingredient to student success in today’s global society.
Definition of Creativity and Innovation ● Think Creatively ● Work Creatively with Others ● Implement Innovation The Importance of Creativity In today’s world of global competition and task automation, innovative capacity and a creative spirit are fast becoming requirements for personal and professional success.
Critical thinking related to other skills critical thinking stress its connection to creative thinking skills. Critical thinking also draws on other skills, such as communication and information literacy, to examine, then analyze, interpret, and evaluate it.
communication related to other skills While it is important to emphasize communication skills, it can be difficult to separate them from the other Cs—especially collaboration. As represented in the 21st Century Skills Framework, communication competencies such as clearly articulating ideas through speaking and writing are closely related to collaboration skills Thus, communication skills are intertwined with information, media, communication, and technology skills.

Creativity related to other skills Creativity is closely intertwined with some of the other skills previously identified. Innovation today has a social component and requires adaptability, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Increasingly, today the capacity to innovate is linked to the ability to connect with others and with a facility for communication and collaboration.
World Languages– 4th Grade World Languages – 4th Grade With the job title omitted, students read various job/career advertisements and then match the appropriate job title to the ad. Students are divided into groups. Each group is asked to investigate 3-5 different career/job sites and identify the jobs and careers that are in high demand in a particular city, region, or country. Students present their findings to the class. integrating critical thinking in the classroom
integrating communication in the classroom Science – 8th Grade Students interview local scientists (e.g., university researcher, local television meteorologist, medical technician) about the ways in which computer models inform their work. Students create a digital gallery of images from the different models accompanied by audio files of the interviews. Students are familiar with the use of computational models as tools to describe and predict real-world phenomena.
World Languages – 4th Grade Students team with another class in a target language country to identify and compare endangered species in both countries. Using basic information in the target language, the students collaborate to produce a multimedia informational presentation for their peers. integrating Collaboration in the classroom
integrating Creativity in the classroom World Languages – 12th Grade Students investigate alternative energy projects in a target language country (e.g., Solar Decathlon Europe) and use ideas gleaned from their investigation to design and explain an original design of an electric car, solar house, or renewable energy alternative specific to their school. Students vote on the best use of renewable energy and defend their choice in an alternative energy publication.

Definition of Critical Thinking ● Reason Effectively ● Use Systems Thinking ● Make Judgments and Decisions ● Solve Problems The Importance of Critical Thinking Teaching critical thinking and problem solving effectively in the classroom is vital for students. Learning critical thinking leads students to develop other skills, such as a higher level of concentration, deeper analytical abilities, and improved thought processing.

Definition of Communication ● Communicate Clearly ○ Listen effectively to decipher meaning ○ Use communication for a range of purposes ○ Use multiple media and technologies ○ Communicate effectively in diverse environments The Importance of Communication Linguistically and culturally effective communication is essential to contribute successfully to these teams.

Definition of Collaboration ● Collaborate with Others ○ Assume shared responsibility for collaborative work, and value the individual contributions made by each team member The Importance of Collaboration As a result of students working collaboratively, the group can generate more knowledge, making collaboration a key ingredient to student success in today’s global society.

Definition of Creativity and Innovation ● Think Creatively ● Work Creatively with Others ● Implement Innovation The Importance of Creativity In today’s world of global competition and task automation, innovative capacity and a creative spirit are fast becoming requirements for personal and professional success.
  • 7. Critical thinking related to other skills critical thinking stress its connection to creative thinking skills. Critical thinking also draws on other skills, such as communication and information literacy, to examine, then analyze, interpret, and evaluate it.

Increasingly, today the capacity to innovate is linked to the ability to connect with others and with a facility for communication and collaboration.
  • 11. World Languages– 4th Grade World Languages – 4th Grade With the job title omitted, students read various job/career advertisements and then match the appropriate job title to the ad. Students are divided into groups. Each group is asked to investigate 3-5 different career/job sites and identify the jobs and careers that are in high demand in a particular city, region, or country. Students present their findings to the class. integrating critical thinking in the classroom
  • 12. integrating communication in the classroom Science – 8th Grade Students interview local scientists (e.g., university researcher, local television meteorologist, medical technician) about the ways in which computer models inform their work. Students create a digital gallery of images from the different models accompanied by audio files of the interviews. Students are familiar with the use of computational models as tools to describe and predict real-world phenomena.
  • 13. World Languages – 4th Grade Students team with another class in a target language country to identify and compare endangered species in both countries. Using basic information in the target language, the students collaborate to produce a multimedia informational presentation for their peers. integrating Collaboration in the classroom
  • 14. integrating Creativity in the classroom World Languages – 12th Grade Students investigate alternative energy projects in a target language country (e.g., Solar Decathlon Europe) and use ideas gleaned from their investigation to design and explain an original design of an electric car, solar house, or renewable energy alternative specific to their school. Students vote on the best use of renewable energy and defend their choice in an alternative energy publication.
