The University of Technology is a premier and reputable tertiary education institution in Jamaica. The company offers a wide range of degree programmes and has a good image as well as qualified teachers. Most of its buildings and classrooms are dated and need to be modernized. The labour market in Jamaica requires trained and qualified university graduates and employers are trying to woo these students with offer of high wages. The level of technology in Jamaica is relatively high and this provides UTech with adequate supplies of electricity, telecommunication services and equipment. Public support for education in Jamaica is high and many groups lobby for more education facilities and types. However, the current economic climate of Jamaica makes it a bit challenging for some students to attend UTech. High rate of unemployment and low minimum wages coupled with a relatively high rate of inflation make it daunting for some students. Nevertheless, many parents make sacrifices to get their children educated as education is seen as a vital factor in many Jamaicans effort to better themselves. There are several local and off shore universities in Jamaica that compete aggressively for students who want to pursue degrees. a.
