Non-literary coursework

L.O: To analyse the requirements for LL2, assess the work
of others and begin to plan our own non-literary
coursework.
b) The second piece must be non-literary: journalism, reviews,
information texts, etc. (20 marks)
The pieces do not need to be of equal length, but should total
approximately 2,000 words.
• travel writing/guides
• speech
• a magazine article
• a newspaper report
• a tabloid/broadsheet article on the same topic
• an advertising campaign
• an informative or persuasive leaflet
• theatre/film/music/art reviews;
• website
• brochure
• an editorial
• a report
• a formal letter
Once you have decided what you’re
going to do you need to plan
carefully
G – Genre
A – Audience
P – Purpose

These need to be clearly established
and maintained in your writing.
Task One
 Look at the collection of non-fiction texts you
  have been given.

 In your groups read the texts and write down
  the G.A.P for each text.
 Which text is the most effective and
  engaging? Why?
 Decide what theme links your texts.

 Be prepared to feed back your findings.
Task Two
 Use the planning grid below to organise your
ideas and begin planning your work.

Genre – What form will your work
take? What are the literary and
linguistic features of this Genre?
Audience – Who is your text aimed
at?
Purpose – What is the overall
purpose of the text? Why are you
writing it? To inform, explain,
instruct…. What are the literary
and linguistic features for this
purpose?
Review

 Swap your work with another pupil and peer
  assess their work.

 Have they clearly planned to write for the
  correct G.A.P?

 Are there any further literary and linguistic
features for this genre and purpose that they
  have not included?

 Can you suggest any improvements or anything
else they should include in their finished piece?
Homework

 To research the features of the genre and
  purpose you are writing for.
 Find at least two examples of this text type.
 Read carefully and highlight the literary and
linguistic features used in the text.

For Monday 17th of December.
