2. GENRE
• Florence and the Machines are usually considered an indie rock band,
however many of their music videos don’t cohere to the typical genre
convention surrounding the indie genre as the videos are more
professional looking and look like they cost a lot of money to create.
They usually contain a lot of bright colours and kooky dance routines
which are usually associated with the pop genre.
• ‘Spectrum’ is considered to be a more pop/indie song created by
Florence and the Machines and is one of their more famous songs.
3. GENRE
As the song is more pop orientated, we will be using conventions from
both the indie and the pop genre. This will include a narrative, dance
routines, costume changes and a lot of close ups on the leads face, who is
female, which shows she is the lead but also portrays Laura Mulvey's
theory of the male gaze which is prominent in pop music videos. However,
as the song is more alternative and indie we will also show hints of indie
genre convention throughout the video such as the use of black and white
and a more unprofessional look in the music video which is typical of the
indie genre.
