This ppt is based on Chapter 2 of the Grade-8 NCERT Science textbook. I have made it like a revision ppt which you can use to revise the concepts taught in the chapter

4. A microorganism, or microbe, is
a microscopic organism that is so small that
it is invisible to the naked eye.
They can be single or multi celled, they can
live alone or in colonies.
What are
microorganisms?
5. In order to grow
successfully, microorganisms must have
a supply of water as well as numerous
other substances including mineral
elements, growth factors, temperature
and gas, such as oxygen.
“Most microorganisms can survive
under any kind of condition.”
9. Where microbes come in
handy
Food
production
Soil fertility
Decomposing bacterium and
blue-green algae fix
atmospheric nitrogen to the
soilwhich is essential for the
growth of plants.
Medicines and
vaccines
Different microorganisms like
Yeast and Lactobacilli are useful
in making food products like
Curd, Bread, Cake and Wine.
Cleaning the
environment
Antibiotics are actually just
particular microorganisms
which inhibit (kill) the growth
of the bad guy microbes. They
are used in vaccines too
Some microorganisms can
decompose dead organic
matter into simpler
substances which can be used
by plants.
12. ● The microorganisms that cause diseases in living beings are known as pathogens.
● The pathogens can enter our bodies through air, water and food.
● Some pathogens are transmitted directly from an infected person.
● The diseases which are transmitted by an infected person directly or indirectly are
known as communicable diseases. For eg., common cold, tuberculosis, etc.
● Microorganisms also grow on food and spoil it. That is why preservatives are
added in the food to prevent it from spoilage.
Some microorganisms are
harmful
