2. Masthead Samples
My chosen name for my magazine is Monotone, because the majority of my
magazine will be in black and white, with small interjections of colour. The
irony in the of the name will be, that Monotone will actually be written in
colour.
Sample Fonts
Monotone MonoTone Broadway, 36
Monotone MonoTone Forte, 28
Monotone MonoTone Bauhaus 93, 40
Monotone Showcard Gothic, 32
Monotone MonoTone Narkisim, 36
3. Chosen Masthead
MonoTone Broadway, 36
This is my chosen masthead because I think its very simple without being plain,
I also chose to capitalise the ‘T’ because I think it makes it stand out. I chose
the font because I like the way that its very elegant but also quite edgy.
The masthead will appear in various colours that will be present throughout
the issue.

4. Genre
My magazine will focus on mainly on the Indie rock/rock genre, including
both older and newer artists and bands, such as Pixies, Franz Ferdinand,
Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, Paolo Nutini, Bloc Party, Lana Del ray, The kinks,
Birdy, Feist and many more.
5. Colours and style
Because of the genre of my magazine, Indie, I will try to create a visual
representation of what indie music is. Black and white, monochrome, is what
I want the majority of my magazine to be, because although colour grabs
attention and hold attention, often feeling and emotion is lost in colour. Black
and white, because it is so simple, reveals true meaning behind photos,
words, lyrics and videos. It is the most revealing of colour combinations
because it allows the reader to analyse the media without the distraction of
colour.
6. Colours and Style
Of course, I won’t limit my magazines colour scheme to black and white.
Small interjections of colour, that represent featured artists, sub-genres of
music or significant songs. Because although black and white were popular in
my survey, as were many other colours, mainly blue, green and red.
7. Publication and Price
My magazine will be published monthly, as this was the most popular answer
on my survey. It will include a substantial amount of music news, new music,
releases and offers for the month. It will effectively be a summery of music
for the month, with interjections of older and newer bands and artists.
Considering the amount of news, music and the quality of promotional items,
the magazine will be priced at around £3, which was the second most popular
response of my survey.
8. What it will contain
My magazine will contain the newest music from my genre, but also the
existing foundational music of my genre, which has inspired and influenced
the entire indie rock genre. I would also like to include articles about various
artists and band, and I would also like to interview various bands and artists,
asking them about music, the music industry and inspirations and
experiences.
I would like there to be concert deals, ticket deals and music vouchers in my
magazine to compensate for the higher price and the fact that it will only be
published monthly.
9. Reader profile
Lizzie is 16 and lives in Yorkshire. She is an enthusiastic music fan, who enjoys various
genres, artists and bands, both old and new; she especially enjoys Bastille, George
Ezra and Queen. She mainly listens to music on her phone and/or IPod, and mainly
uses iTunes as a means of downloading and experiencing new music. As well as music
Lizzie also enjoys reading, watching television and. Again, she enjoys many different
types of books, films and TV shows, both old and new, her favourite in two categories
being The Hunger Games series.
As a student Lizzie uses music as a way to unwind after college, and prefers it when
she can gain access to quality music fast. Also, as a young person in full time
education, it is difficult for her to also have a job, so she has little spare money. This
also means that free music vouchers and CDs would be appreciated as it would mean
less of her money would be spent on buying the newest music. Also deals for concert
and festival tickets would be appreciated seeing as they are often quite expensive.
As a music lover, new music, bands and artists is interesting to Lizzie as it broadens her
understanding and love of music. So unknown and newly discovered bands would be
appreciated if featured in the magazine.
10. Mission statement
My magazines mission statement is to supply readers with the newest indie
rock music and also educate them to older bands and artists that have
influenced and inspired the entire genre. I also aim to supply readers with
the latest news on concerts, tours, music releases and festival deals. I want to
make sure that readers gain the full knowledge and experience as much
music as they possible can.
