2. What’s this all about?
An American company has developed and released a
digitalised machine that is capable of making metal rifles from
the comfort of its owner’s home.

3. The controversy
Cody Wilson had revealed the world’s first fully 3D printed gun
last year, called the Liberator, showing that his progressive
movement had succeeded in creating a working firearm.
Defense Distributed is exploiting the legal loophole around
lower receivers. To buy a fully completed lower receiver, you
need to pass a background check but you can get a partially
built receiver without one.

4. What does the machine do?
The product called Ghost Gunner is a small CNC milling
machine and is capable of producing an aluminium lower
receiver for an AR-15 rifle.
This device allows people with no gunsmith training to legally
assemble a working assault rifle at home with no licensing or
serial number.

5. The demand
Defense Distributed sold more than 200 of the Ghost Gunner
in the first 24 hours; the company had planned to sell only 110
of the machines total before cutting off orders.
