LF Energy Webinar: Electrical Grid Modelling and Simulation Through PowSyBl -...DanBrown980551
Do you want to learn how to model and simulate an electrical network from scratch in under an hour?
Then welcome to this PowSyBl workshop, hosted by Rte, the French Transmission System Operator (TSO)!
During the webinar, you will discover the PowSyBl ecosystem as well as handle and study an electrical network through an interactive Python notebook.
PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Competition for apple
1.
2. From within our pool of technology, today we are going to pull
out a few items that might be on your wishlist and that we think
Apple might not be so pleased about: Amazon Fire TV,
Amazon Fire tablet, a case that will add touch functions to the
back of iPhones and iPads, and an underwater drone.
What’s this all about?
3. Amazon Fire TV
If you were not already aware, Amazon has plans in the making to take over your
TV and Fire TV appears to be very strong competitor against Apple TV.
Amazon Fire TV is a digital media player and micro console developed
(obviously) by Amazon. It is a small network appliance and entertainment device
designed to stream digital video and audio to your HD TV. Fire TV also allows
users to play video games with the included remote, via a mobile app, or with an
optional game controller.
The device features 2GB of RAM, MIMO dual band Wi-Fi, and a Bluetooth
remote control with a microphone for voice search.
Coming in at £79.99 it is slightly more costly than the Apple TV (£59) but Amazon
is making a bold statement with its latest upgrade to their Fire devices.
4. Amazon Fire Tablet
Amazon’s Fire Tablets are more an entry point to purchasing content
and shopping for physical goods than devices for productivity and
quality photography. They are all about consumption.
Amazon plan to get their tablets into the hands of as many people as
they can by offering a new introductory tablet for just £79.99, a smart
move in my opinion.
It’s promised to perform very decently with a quad-core processor.
There is only 8GB of storage, however, like the Amazon Fire TV; it is
expandable with a microSD card onto which you can download movies
and TV series from Amazon Prime for offline viewing.
5. Handycase
This new case for Apple iPad and iPhone, effectively makes your
device see through and controllable from behind.
The case will allow users the capability to tap and swipe their mobile
device from the rear via an attached case by magically seeing their
hands through the screen.
“The Handycase was developed as a useful, ergonomic tool to access
multiple touch points on a mobile device from the back panel. The
smart case allows for one or two handed interaction with games, maps
and other next generation applications,” explains one of the creators of
the device.
The case comes in various sizes to support iPad, iPhone and some
Android devices that can connect via Bluetooth LE.
6. OpenRov Trident
The OpenRov Trident is a submersible that can help people explore
the ocean life and learn about what’s hanging out under the docks in
your hometown’s seafront. Users have the option to view what the
camera sees through a virtual reality headset.
The OpenRov Trident is essentially snorkelling for the lazy ones, it’s
also useful for those that are too afraid of what lies beneath the
surface so don’t want to physically dive down there themselves.
At the very least, it should prove a killer educational experience.
