The album cover of 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" uses the color red throughout to represent danger and alert listeners to the violent lifestyle depicted within. The bullet hole through 50 Cent's image on the front cover further signifies this danger and violence. Song titles are clearly listed on the back cover alongside an image of 50 Cent looking over his shoulder in a rough urban setting, suggesting he is always watching out for himself. The single black disc contains all 16 songs and acts as a contrast to the prevalent red color scheme.
2. This album, comes with one disk and it
consists of 16 songs. The main theme of this
album is red, which represents that it’s
danger/dangerous and it alerts us what kind
of lifestyle 50 Cent is involved in, without
actually telling you. There is also, a bullet
shot on the front cover, which tells us again,
that it’s all about danger.
3. The first thing that stands out
immediately, is the large image
of 50 Cent and the effect as if
someone has shot through the
glass. This not only stands out
and really draws your
attention, but it gives you an
insight of 50 Cent’s lifestyle and
that he is involved in violence
and guns, which explains the
bullet shot on the album cover.
The artist’s name (top right)
and the name of the album
(top left) are visible on the
front cover in different fonts.
The artist’s name is in a bigger
font and stands out more, so
people know whose album it is.
The bottom left of the album
cover, there is a logo which says
‘Parental Advisory’ which
suggests that the music on the
album is not suitable for young
children.
FRONT COVER
4. On the back of the
album cover, the name
of the songs are clearly
stated and are easy to
read. The layout is set
out so the picture of 50
Cent and the songs do
not overlap and both
are easy to see. Around
the edges of the album,
the colour red is seen.
At the bottom of the back cover of the album, it has
the names of the executive producers in white away
from everything else. The font is big and bold, so
people will know who the executive producers of the
album are.
The biggest focus on
the back cover is the
picture of 50 Cent,
which is of him looking
over his shoulder; this
could be telling you
what type of
neighbourhood he is
from and in the
background image in
the back, you can see
that the area there
seems pretty rough
and urban. The picture
of him looking over his
shoulder suggests that
he’s always watching
over himself and
keeping a lookout. This
fits in with the generic
conventions of the Rap
genre, as violence is
usually seen in this.
BACK COVER
5. INSIDE BOOKLET
The first thing you
see on the inside, is
the picture on the
left; this is a drawn
picture of 50 Cent
wearing and showing
off his jewellery. A
generic convention of
Rap videos, is that
they have lots of
jewellery and chains.
The chain has a cross at the end of it in the
picture; this may suggest that 50 Cent has a
religious side to him. There is no text inside
of the album cover, just the large drawing
of 50 Cent’s hands.
6. DISC
There is only one disc which contains every song
on the album. The name of the album is also,
written on the disc. The colour of the disc, is black
which can symbolise power, mystery and health. It
also, makes a change from all of the red that which
has been used throughout the album cover.
