1. In what ways does your magazine
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real music
magazines?
2. Model Position
• My model is positioned in front of
my mast head. The head of my
model was positioned in the way
that the masthead is still readable
but not completely visible by the
viewer. I also confirm to the
convention where the model is
positioned in the centre of the
page. This is also confirming to
genre conventions where the
model is in a dominative position to
represent the flashy “in your face”
nature of the genre.
3. Sell Lines
• One of the most obvious
magazine conventions is the
placing of the sell lines. In my
magazine the sell lines are
placed to the sides. The higher
sell lines are placed especially
around the face of my model.
This was done in order to not
obscure his face. This then
emphasises the dominance he
holds on the page.
4. Model Focus
• To portray complete control over the front
page, I have complied to the convention of the
model looking directly at the camera. This is
also to allow the reader to connect to the
reader. This would make the reader emphasis
with the model and share his feelings and
emotions.
5. Mise-en-scene
• The mise-en-scene convention for an
R&B Model is low riding pants, fairly
bright colours and various clothes. I
have chosen to confirm to this
convention to lower the risk of my
magazine portraying the wrong
message and misinforming people of
what genre it is suppose to be in.
6. Logo
• Just like in all magazines, I have designed a
logo for my magazine. I have confirmed to the
convention of the logo being based on the
name of the magazine. On the other hand I
have subverted that convention by not just
having the letters that make up the word in a
customised font, but to have another iconic
symbol which weaves between the each of
the letters to create the logo.
7. Alignment
• One consistent convention that is
visible throughout a magazine is
alignment. My magazine doesn’t
differ. On the front cover where
the sell lines aligned. The
contents page has the alignment
of the headings and descriptions.
On the DPS all text are aligned in
columns.
